Has anyone here with inside knowledge, like you, saying that is definitive? Or did he get tired of waiting in Miami and moved on?

What’s the story?
Ironically enough, was at a Christmas party with ones of Mendoza's cousins last night. When Mendoza won the heisman he let the whole party know his cousin won.

I eventually asked him why didnt he go to Miami (expecting Mario to be bashed). And he said with no hesitation, "he didnt want to come to Miami"

The big story is that possessions are down, which impacts stats at every position. This is a byproduct of, among other things, rule changes to shorten games.

The top team in plays per game this year (FAU) would’ve been 10th in 2020 and 20th in 2015.
Indiana does play at a relatively slow pace so they don’t run as many plays as the fastest teams but comparing them to 2024 Miami, we’re talking about an average of under 5 plays per game. I don’t think an extra 2.5 pass attempts per game would have put Mendoza anywhere near Cam Ward’s numbers from last season. They just don’t throw the ball a lot.

This year is a down year for quarterbacks overall. I don’t necessarily mean from a nfl draft perspective just an overall production perspective. There’s very few good teams that have a quarterback that carried them this year. The top quarterbacks from last year, Ward, Sanders, Gabriel, Dart, all surpass what this year’s guys are doing.

This is what I understand as well. Not that his family wouldn’t have liked him being home but he was only looking for 12 months for his next gig. His family was already going to Cal so traveling was something that didn’t phase them.

Pass. We can't afford another Spring without our starting QB participating. Beck’s experience got him through it this year but I wouldn't want to do it again.
Why can’t we? What were the results this year that brought you to the conclusion that we can’t ā€œaffordā€ to do it again? We played arguably our toughest opponent the first game of the season on top of it. Leavitt hss plenty of experience as well including in the playoffs. Miami has FAMU and Central Michigan in September. ND is in November. It may be arguable that next year is the year that we can most afford it compared to this year.

This whole concept plays perfectly into my Tin Foil Hat theory for the future of college football.

* The bottom half of FBS teams and all of FCS will become the minor leagues of college football.

As the data D$ laid out here becomes common knowledge, I would start to look for 4 & 5 star high school QB's to start going to lower division schools where they can be promised a starting job.

The kid from Chaminade who went to NC State rather than signing with Miami as a project is a perfect local example. He'll be a very marketable Portal QB because of his two years as a starter at NC State.

In a year with really weak quarterback production. Compare Mendoza’s numbers to any of the other Heisman finalists quarterbacks in recent years and they’re pedestrian. Not because he hasn’t played well. He’s been fantastic but because Indiana doesn’t ask him to throw a lot. What Quarterback in the modern era has won the Heisman while averaging under 230 yards passing per game?
he seems like a good kid but I wouldn't draft him top 5.

This is exactly the matchup I want. We have to take care of business this week and then beat OSU (which I think we can, but haven't done a breakdown) so all this IU talkl take's a hit. Mendoza and IU have been great. I am waiting to see how losing their best DL, DE Daley celebrating after OSU is a hurt's them. Daley replaced Wyatt who was lost for the season about mid season. Daley is 2nd in tackles for loss in the country. No way the SO behind him isn't a big drop off. IU doesn't have that depth behind their 2 deep. The backup at RT that replaced Benson was destroyed all game by Curry at OSU. Destroyed! I don't believe their depth can hold up for 3 straight playoff /games. I liked IU in the bracket at 1st, but it is going to be tough for them. Then they are losing everyone after the season. We shall see if Cig can continue this miracle portal transformation one more time.
just realizing if we get to the natty we'll have beaten rank 7, 2, 3 (assuming georgia wins) and then 1 in the country if we face IU

And why not?
One QB was a three year starter at a big-time program where he played with and against elite competition and fared well, whereas the other guy did OK, but not great at a program struggling to win in a shthole conference.
Which QB would you choose?
Which QB would have Cignetti chosen if he would have had the choice?
Honestly, I was ok if we had ended up with Mendoza but I would be lying if I knew he was going to be this good.
I do know a lot of folks had major concerns over the possibility of having Mendoza at UM. We were hearing alot of stuff about Mario and the Columbus bros, fizical football and the other silly stuff.
Sometimes we cannot do anything right per our fan-base.
100%

Mendoza and Indiana was a good combination. We lost two games and they were a razor thin margin away from 2 losses (Iowa/PSU)

We went through a funk on offense not sure that Mendoza would have made a difference over Beck

Congrats to the kid he did an amazing thing there, but if Mateer was our #1 and then we chose Beck over Mendoza, I don’t see anything wrong with that even playing Monday morning QB

I know his Dad was a Columbus guy, but did the Heisman trophy winning son also attend Columbus? If so, that has to grind the gears of the Columbus Mafia in charge of this football team.
