A note on Portal QBs

Mendoza at California is night and day from Mendoza at at Indiana due to coaching,

The let it rip version of Dawson is a good playcaller but outside of that…..who’s being developing QB from this Miami coaching staff?

I get it that most of the Heisman candidates and QBs with first round draft grades are portal QBs, however, we need a competent QB2

I’m not trying to diss the staff but we need ready to go QB who just need better offensive line protection and offensive weapons
I think Brooklyndee brought up good points in a different thread - not sure we have carved out any meaningful practice reps for developmental qbs like Nickel, unless him and Dawson are staying late each night to give him reps that he is not getting in practice?

I noticed IU has a QB coach and whether he is working with Mendoza or the backups, its nice to have the dedicated time.

Bro it’s like debating someone insane nothing you say matters and they’ll just throw whatever BS they can to defend their point..They act like Cam was Superman already and received 0 help from Miami lol smh
You are a poopyhead.

I'm always right, you are a mouth breathing mongoloid who is always wrong.

Your mother dresses you funny as well.

How am I doing?

Did we coach up Cam Ward and Carson Beck or did we just provide them with better supporting cast?
Probably a touch of both.

There is no doubt Cam benefitted from an upgraded OL at Miami, this however, doesn't take anything away from Cam's accomplishments at Miami.

He merely was afforded the opportunity to showcase his talent to a tremendous potential.

Shame 2025 defense wasn't paired with 2024 offense.

It’s not ALL coaching, Indiana is in every way shape and form a better football team/program then CAL at the moment, Mendoza didn’t magically gain any traits he didn’t already show at Cal he’s just on a much better team & he fit like a glove there
Cignetti is much more organizational design and execution than he is magical "coaching".

I suppose you could call it coaching, but Cig Cig Sputnik is all about putting perfect execution on the field because he believes (knows) that puts natural talent on its heels 9/10 times.

Yep 100% agree.. Mendozas success isn’t some generational QB coaching job. They are running a very good program right now at Indiana

While technically, the underlying statement is true, I would not consider Julian Sayin a portal guy.

He was never really at Alabama. He signed on December 20 and entered the portal on January 19th when Saban retired.

He was at Alabama less than a month and ended up at Ohio State on the same schedule as if he had committed directly there.

I feel like what you’re describing is pretty much the definition of coaching lol

Also, Cig’s entire background is QB focused. I’d bet a lot that he’s heavily involved there. His QBs have ALWAYS put up numbers.

most kids want to get away from where they grew up. explore new things/new environments not live 10 min from where they grew up.
I’ll say if he had a Miami offer out if CCHS he would have taken it. Cuban kids generally would stay home. Family culture etc keep them here

are you gonna cry basketball wives GIF by VH1
Are you gonna cry if your portal QB gets hurt and you have to start the back up for multiple games?

Ironically enough, was at a Christmas party with ones of Mendoza's cousins last night. When Mendoza won the heisman he let the whole party know his cousin won.

I eventually asked him why didnt he go to Miami (expecting Mario to be bashed). And he said with no hesitation, "he didnt want to come to Miami"
I am not an insider ever. But in this case I know for a fact that this is false. Kid lives 3 blocks from me

No. But thanks for taking the time to reply to me. It makes me feel special when former players respond to my comments.
I'm here for you brother. All good. I'm pretty sure you're an abberation than. Cause if not we wouldn't have to hear **** about Emory and Judd etc. if all that matters is the starter. Let's pray to the football Jesus that he never gets hurt.
