Now my Chip-boner is inverted.
This.

Can we get Mullen for that much?

I'm under the assumption we are getting Butch, Schiano or Mario

Miss State would probably match 4mil easily.

Pretty sure Mullen is making that right now. We're not getting any established head coach for that much. Dantonio, Patterson, Gundy, Mullen are all off the table.

Like another poster said, that may take Herman off the table since he just got a raise and seems intent on waiting for Texas.
$4 million is low if you want a really good coach. Might be low for a good coach.

My guess, for the amount they are willing to pay they are going to settle on either Butch, Chud or Mario

Mullen's current deal averages $4.25. $4 million is a joke and I guarantee Blake nor any other member of the search committee said that. If they did, they insulted everyone's intelligence.

According to THIS Mullen is already making $4M.

Patterson, Gundy and Dantonio are making at least $3.6M. I doubt $4M entices them to leave.

So much for getting serious.

You can't attract a top 10 type coach in 2015/2016 for $4M. That would get you Davis, Schiano and maybe Tom Herman.

Gundy makes less. Patterson makes less. Mullen makes 4. Art Briles makes 4.2. You wouldn't have to pay anyone in your post 4 million.

Thats base salary and doesn't even include bonuses. They would laugh in Blake's face if he approached them with a $4 million offer

Time to change that verbiage from "Saban-type coach" that is floating around if we're going to max out at $4 mil per year. Now don't get me wrong, you can absolutely get a good coach for that amount but it won't be this big name splash type of hire that some are claiming Flake has hinted at. The biggest name you probably can get for that amount would be a Chuck Pagano.

lol 4 mil...

none of those coaches about to take on a rebuild project, leave their comfort zone for an extra 200-400K.

IMO that "Saban type coach" was just BS being spewed at a luncheon that one of the posters went to. His post was probably legit, but they were just feeding boosters what they wanted to hear IMO

This is from the same luncheon. Dollars were not discussed per the other report.

Really, I get that this is a small school, small alumni etc.

But are we this broke, coming off a 108 million dollar deal?

Agreed. Typical sale pitch schtick. Labeling someone that they pray will be a "Saban-type coach" IN THE FUTURE as that NOW. It's an amateur hour pitch at best if that's how they're really talking. Just be intellectually honest and say that we're going to have no problem paying a top 15 type salary. Stop moving the goal posts on yourself, Flake. Most of us were elated when we even heard that we'd go to $4 mil.

Seems like everything we've heard so far has been carefully leaked propaganda to make it seem like Miami is really serous about football, but in reality we're still not trying to compete with the elites.

The search firm, the leaked salaries we're willing to pay, the 40+ name coaching list, Chip. All of it is bull**** to make it seem like Miami wants to take football serious, but it's really just misdirection. Make it seem like they're doing their due diligence but really we're going to make a lazy, safe hire. And when it's not a big name they can say, "well we tried."

**** all this. Chud comin'

They will have to up it to 4.5 to 5 mil for those dudes plus bonus for winning conference and title games (Very attainable here ). 2 of the 4 you named have bonus but are not getting them because they are not reaching the mark. Patterson has no stated bonus but rumored to have oil deals.

And when they pull this BS, they'll have 1 fan less.

You won't get a known entity for that. And you might as well not even embarrass yourself approaching guys like Chip with that money.

For instance, Mullen already makes $4M at a total dump.

UM is like the old grandpa who gives you $5 for Christmas and is all proud of himself for being so generous.

You know what you can do with $4m in today's landscape? Overpay either an unknown or a retread loser who no one else wants.

Not only is our new coach going to be an upgrade, but I read in another post, they are going to make a much stronger commitment to the football program so we can get back to being elite...
We can hope right?
