Will be unpopular here, but I don’t believe in overpaying out of desperation for a backup option.

I hope he balls out senior year and develops into a freak, but he has high bust potential from the film and comp I watch. I expect him to drop in the rankings as well. He’s high ceiling, low floor type.

At the same time, good to stop the bleeding and all hands on deck for Cooper. That’s someone that’s worth the overpay imo.

All that being said, welcome to the U young man and prove many of us wrong.
Good observation.. I thought I was the only one who watched his hudl. Nothing about him jumps off the screen. Let’s be real, would Jimmy or Butch recruit him??? No

Blimptown!! I played juco basketball in palatka. Forgot this is what palatka is called. Athletes come out of there bro. Horace Jefferson was my coach at St John’s and was some serious ballers around there.
Horace the Legend!

Obviously missing the consensus 5 stars like J. Smith, but we've actually recruited pretty well 3 years now for WRs. Trader, Carr, and Robinson in 2024. Moore, Upshaw, and Toney in 2025, and Wingo, Spafford, and Evans for 2026.
We desperately need two or three of these guys to hit big, get drafted in top 3 rounds so we can truly change the narrative for recruiting wr's long term. My money right now would be on Toney & Trader from kids currently on campus.

This is a really good class. Right now, like last year, it just doesn't have them couple of elite recruits they wanted, except Cantwell.
Back to Wingo, he isn't the fastest, but what he is good at is 50/50 balls, he has length and he is hard to tackle. I like that they mentioned his work ethic at the ceremony. I personally wanted him and I am glad we got him. This program has a bunch of hard working players that it hasn't had in so long, evals. Welcome to the 🙌. Go get Keys!
Show me ONE player that Butch, Jimmy or Erickson recruited similar to his game tape???

What year were you around there to see Jefferson?
Grew up in P-Town! Played some softball with Horace. He was the basketball coach, I think up to the late 90's. Got relieved of his duties for some crazy shizzle.

The Canes regained some momentum with the commitment of four-star WR Somourian Wingo.

The 6’2, 180-pound St. Augustine native chose the Canes over Florida, South Carolina and Alabama.

As a junior, Wingo caught 65 passes for 1,040 yards (16.8 YPC) and 12 TDs and led a St. Augustine team that went 11-2 and made the semifinals of Florida’s 4A playoffs.

Wingo is a multisport athlete, averaging 16.6 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 3.1 spg and 2.5 apg and a 53.19 in the 400M on the track.

Shannon Dawson and Kevin Beard have been leading the charge on the Wingo evaluation, as they value his ability to play outside and inside. He performed very well in front of the coaches at a July 2024 Miami camp, where he competed alongside Malachi Toney, Jaime Ffrench, Nick Lennear, Calvin Russell, Jayden Petit and others.

Wingo joins Vance Spafford and Tyran Evans in Miami’s WR class.

This is what I’ll say, if Wingo and Russell switched places and Wingo was down here in South Florida and Russell was up there in Saint Augustine, it would be Wingo Everyone is talking about on this board and well deserved. Unlike Russell, who is very raw and I questioned if football is his first love. Wingo is much more refined and has the ability to compete and produce much quicker than Russell. I also believe their speed is comparable. I can’t tell you how happy I am we got this kid. He has big-time playmaker potential ahead of him if he continues to put in the work, but like I said, he isn’t raw like Russell is. This kid can contribute right away.
