Unless this is a really strong draft class for safeties, JJ needs to take the money. Hate to say it. I love the guy.

I feel like the princess and the pea when I complain nowadays, because Richt & Co have given us the keys to the kingdom once more.

But in the spirit of "you can always be better", I really hope Joyner and Briggs are early commits, or make a public statement they're committing to the Canes on early commit date. Otherwise, I hope the coaches go with Plan 1b/B. We saw with Jeudy (and before that with Rashad Robinson) that local recruits can hang around the campus and team having fun for months, then bail when it's LOI day. Especially at LB, where we have Bonitto showing strong interest.

Should we be looking for more LBs as well? Pickney and Shaq may be gone next year as well. Who do we have behind them ?

What? Those guys are sophs. The 2019 class will be heavy on LBs, not this one

Don’t know why people are forgetting this. If Manny gets one of the two he wants this cycle I’m cool with the low number. He even said in an interview that the 2019 LB class is loaded. He’ll replenish there. 2019 for LB’s will be like how 2018 is for DB’s. At the end of the day this is SFL, these positions grow on trees.

Yeah but that’s 2019, one can’t expect to strike gold on three freshman LBs everytime.

Lol don’t necessarily have to strike gold, especially with this staff. See MJ28, DL81, SR22, CP34, MS35, etc. People praise the staff, and at the same time doubt they’ll be able to coach up solid prospects like Steed, Wilder & Jennings. We’ll be fine at LB if the trio forgo their Sr yr. The 17 class should be able to hold the fort down until the nxt group of Studs come in.

yo pete, when will you do a Q&A. Seems like its been way too long!

Surtain just might be the 2018 version of Tracy Howard. Just stack ballers and let the chips fall where they may.

-I'll get negged but fvck it. I re-watched the ND game multiple times and Norton got his a$$ kicked repeatedly by Q Nelson. Couldn't believe it. He is not ready and would be making a huge mistake. He needs to get much stronger and not just rely on his size to move people.
-I used to think RJ leaving was a mistake but he has A. Darnold type quickness and will only get stronger as he gets older. I don't think he gets out of the first round unfortunately for us. I think if he came back he'd be looking at the top 10.
-JJ is not a center fielder, he's really playing strong safety. In the NFL he would get killed playing that position at his size and doesn't have the speed to play a true FS. His instincts are off the charts but he should come back or else he's looking at the 6th/7th round.

All these guys are true juniors. Most of the time those guys are physical freaks like Njoku. The only one even close to that is RJ.

Disagree on norton, I just watched every defensive snap of the Notre Dame and he threw Nelson multiple times and was in the backfield a lot. You got to remember the Nelson kid was considered a top 5 talent in the draft and norton was more than holding his own against him

I'm sorry, but this is just false. Nelson had a dominant game and made Norton/Moten look pretty average. Nelson's PFF grade was 86,3, which is elite. Norton's wasn't even close. We dominated up front because we won all the other matchups, especially RJ vs their RG.

RJ is a 1st round talent and should leave.

Norton is a 4th-6th round pick. He should come back and continue to get stronger and work on his technique. He could end up being drafted high, but he's not there yet

I was wondering what his PFF grade was. As good as he was in that game his boy McGlinchey got exposed. Dude is not a first round talent, not even close. Joe Jack did a number on him all game and Garvin beat him a couple time too. I was worried how Garvin would hold up against the run but Manny/Kool did a masterful job of protecting him and subbing him in on obvious passing downs. This staff is insane and always one step ahead. Recruits need to know this.

McCloud shook McGlinchey out of his shoes as well

No chance Norton or Johnson leave. Norton won’t be any better then a 3rd rounder & Johnson 6th/7th tops. Would be idiotic.

Pete,
Is there any discussion of bringing in any linebackers in this class?

Hate idiotic posters like this. Why does Jaquan have to leave? What if he wants to stay another year to win a national championship and graduate, is that not allowed?

Dumb posters like union said the same thing about Yearby, and what's he doing now? \

Making it in the NFL is not guaranteed. Jaquan is great but he obviously needs to see what his eval is. He's undersized and likely won't test well, so he'll probably have a much more difficult decision to make than RJ.

But jesus christ we have some ridiculous fans. Not every junior has to leave believe it or not

This guy gets it.

The Yearby decision last ear shows we have people feeding our guys bad advice. Hopefully Norton and Jaquan at least find out what the NFL thinks of them before they make decisions

Norton was blowing up double teams the past couple weeks. I think his status is improving. Would have agreed after UNC he couldn't make a good case to go any higher than 3 or 4. Now I think people are paying attention, and there are at least 4 more games to play for him to show cause. Hope he stays, but he's had one foot out the door for a while now.

Joyner lucky I’m not CMR I would’ve been asked him what are you waiting on? Miami is undefeated and FSU has to reschedule a game with ULM lol just for a chance to be bowl eligible. Need to move on and offer my boy Bonitto he’s a baller. Idk how to post screenshots but I had tweeted him and @ CMR & Kool telling them to get him at the U and he favorited it. Idk what the **** Briggs thinking. If Surtain vists that weekend in December I think we get him, the coaching staff will roll out the red carpet for him & Campbell.

One more note about linebackers- it is clear as day that the staff is being extremely choosy about this position. They are obviously in no hurry or panic to add bodies to this unit. Louis, gainer, Joyner appear to be the only kids they really want.

Maybe they don't want to add talent blockers, kids that just take up roster space that looks good on paper, but just ends up costing you down the line (huge '19 class) with prospects you really want but who are turned off by having so many bodies at the position.

Or maybe diaz has decided that the future of this defense is more of a 4-2-5 look with an extra in the box rover replacing a traditional linebacker to combat the quick twitch spread RPO offenses littering the landscape. Sherwood and Russell filled this box and we have kids on our current roster like Carter who could end up to be the prototype for this position- 6'2 215 lbs after another year in the weight room and physical af.

Miami has a big big issue with losing juniors early.

If we want to have sustained success like an Alabama we have got to buck this trend. We must start having kids come back for their senior years

Norton and Johnson have no business declaring. They aren't in any 3 round mock drafts I have seen

Miami has ALWAYS had kids leave early.

depth is the problem. you are right. in the past it was just next man up.

Hope someone isn't putting nonsense into Jaquan's ear. Go ahead and get the advisory committee opinion. Also please take a strong look at the Safety position historical data.

The biggest knock on Jaquan Johnson will be his athleticism. That knock is going to be there if he declared this year, or stays his senior year and leaves next year. The problem is he has gotten exactly zero draft hype this year. So I don't think he should leave early because I think if he returns for his senior year like Ed Reed did, he can get a lot more draft hype. But this is also a down year for DBs in general. Last year was absolutely loaded at DB. This yr the CB class is garbage....which is actually why Michael Jackson should really consider leaving early. But for Jaquan I think he should stay because I think he needs his stock to be as high as possible entering Combine/Pro Day season because I don't think he'll have a great showing those days.

exactly. amazingly, michael jackson stock might have peaked this year.

What happened to the guy who used to post the Lil Petey video??? Work...work...work...

Ding ding ding

I love the contingent of posters that say that JJ's not going to go any higher in this draft due to measurables. He's having a great year, but he'll never be a 1st round pick given his size. In that event, you stay for your senior year and graduate then take your chance. The only reason to leave early is if you're in a position like McIntosh where you have the potential to be a 1st/2nd round draft pick.

McGlinchey graded out at 48! Haha. The other tackle (Major 9s biotch) graded out at 45.5.

Star QB that wanted to run his mouth before the game hung a 38.8 rating for all to see. LOL.
