I think one of the reasons for the lack of LB recruiting is also the inevitable move to more of a 4-2-5 base defense.

You think diaz is going to a 4-2-5 or is that the actual plan?

Already seeing it. Look at how he is using Amari Carter...and the fact that we might be signing 8 DBs in this class...

We need those DBs because of depth and talent. Only have 4 scholarship cbs for next year and only 3 safties i think most people are comfortable with seeing play.

amazingly, michael jackson stock might have peaked this year.

Correct. Sell high MJ. Will measure/test out really well at combine. Great film for 1 year of starting. Don't chance an injury or more film where you could possibly be exposed.

JJ needs to put out feelers & go from there. I think he will be back.

Yall love to push guys out the door early. These dudes need to come back. You dont win games by depending on freshmen at every position.

Seems like the most logical thing to do. Plus you can find freaks in SFL like Jobe who can play a hybrid safety/corner spot, but still aggressive enough to play the run well.

No one pushing them out the door, we would all love for them to come back. But at the end of the day, they have to make a decision best for them. Ask Dee Delaney how staying in college to try and up his draft stock is going for him. This the reason we need to stack chips.

As good as those DTs are, there’s an argument to be made that losing Jaquan will have the biggest impact, when considering what is behind them.

The more I️ watch Diaz’s defense, the more it becomes apparent how important it is to have a high caliber tackler at safety. With so much going on with the front 7, opposing offensive players get to that 2nd and 3rd level quite often, and we need someone reliable there to clean it up.

I️ simply don’t think JJ is replaceable in this regard. I️ think almost anyone would be a step down from a tackling perspective. Selfishly I️ hope he stays.

A kid like Yasir Abdullah makes even more sense if that's the case.

We might need depth, but there ain't no way in **** we are signing 8 guys in one class if we don't have a plan to get them all on the field.

Agreed. 6 looks most likely. Though if a stud like Surtain wants in, we'd take 7.

I love him to death and his improved play the last 4 weeks is one of the main reasons are defense is so good but 5'9.5 190 lb safetys that run 4.7's usually don't go that high in the NFL draft..Jaquan Johnson isnt going anywhere this year.

Back as a freshman he tested under Swasey who was pretty well known to have non-exaggerated 40 times and matched pretty well with the senior players pro days--
"Freshman Jaquan Johnson ran a 4.60 in the summer testing. He weighed in at 190 pounds, up three from the spring. He had a 375-pound squat (from 365 in the spring), 269-pound power clean (from 276) and 340-pound bench press (from 315). He didn't test in the vertical jump."

Dumbest reasoning ever.... His speed and size isn’t going to change in a year. He’s never been a great athlete so that’s not going to change. He’s playing his best football of his career right now. He’s not going to put much better film out than right now. Guys like Jenkins and Carter got drafted in the mid rounds and Johnson has put out better film this year than they ever did. Johnson can at least get drafted 3rd-4th rounds. Kids see dollar signs and leave. That’s why the declaring underclassmen has went up practically every year.

We gonna have to disagree. Jenkins and Carter have way more size then Johnson.. And Jenkins has more range.. Im sorry he is not getting drafted in the 3rd or 4th round.. Teams like to see consistency its idiotic to say his film wont get better.. his first 3 games of the year he did not play well at all go back and look at this board if you dont believe it. ANother year of domination and making plays will do him wonders at his size

Its called building depth. All of those dudes are not going to be ready to play year 1 or even 2.

Will see how it works out for Dee. He still has time. Also hopefully the coaching helps him stick with a team. Being ready to stick with an NFL team is a lot more important than getting drafted.

We can ask Yearby how leaving early and not getting his degree is working out. Most of these guys will not make it to the NFL and most will not stay in. That is just how it always goes. Stay in school with free room, free food, free gym, free classes, and getting coached up with guys who are proving they can improve you. That degree is going to be how most of them will make a life for themselves. Don't throw it away.

Johnson's evaluation by the NFL will show his true value not what people personally claim on here. He was officially measured at 5-10 and 182 lbs at the Nike Combine.

Delaney's been injured for half of the season, it's always a roll of the dice. Sometimes it works out. Sometimes it doesn't. Delaney's play on the field looks to have improved when he has played. What's the purpose of leaving early for the draft when you may get picked in the 6th round?

Ill giver him that he might have gotten faster with strength training.

Injury is always a risk. I hope he finishes the year strong.

But if you are projected a top 3 round pick as a Junior, can't be mad at them wanting to go to the league. Will only help recruiting as they see players being developed and getting enough opportunities early on to get to that point.
