Why did they slow play Samuel Jr in the first place? That was pretty stupid to me but you might be one of those ones who feel like staff can do no wrong

Based on the late OV date seems very similar to that Carpenter kid last year.
Coaches bring him in to make sure he'll commit if given the chance and then will let him know as NSD approaches if he has a spot.

So the phantom phone call did happen?
He's a legit sub 4.6 guy so hes not slow.
Hes like Antrel Rolle...means hes a BULLY. The only commit i can see him having issues with is Cam Davis.
Bethel in the game i watched looked very smooth and athletic. Wilson's a better cb..but Bethel is very similar to CJ Henderson from last year.
Don't be shocked if Bethel is being targeted as a WR. I don't see what impressive from the CB spot for us to want him so badly other then speed (That 4.38 40 looks legit on film). Sigh.. we out here telling Bonnito and others to kick rocks for a guy who tried to play recruiting games with like 2 commit-able offers.

This is a good back up plan. He seems like a really good athlete. Main difference between him and kids like Surtain, Asante, Campbell is coaching. He hasn't had the same level of refinement and coaching as those other kids.

I would figure it the latter when he thought he was good enough for recruiting games schools got cold on him quick fast.
To be 100% I don't want him because this is how you end up with a RS/Golden special. You throw an offer to a desperate kid who at this point would just be happy to be at a power 5 school. They end up like the the NFL player who is above average but gets resigned to a nice contract and they suddenly drop off the face of the earth because they feel that made it instead of having a chip on their shoulder.
Think about ALL the Randy/Golden special they are usually in situations just like this we throw them a bone and they go on to waste a scholarship for the next 4 years.
I like the speed but go find a better prospect or just save the scholarship for someone 100% worthy next year.

Oh no, if he wasn't committed to us we obviously slow played him and bungled the whole thing. And if we don't get him in the end the only explanation will be that we fcked it up.
Co- sign what JJB said. Seems crazy to not recruit a kid because of issues between him and another recruit.

Not necessarily as we had another poster State there was “politics” on why Tai (‘19 QB) isn’t the QB target for next years class. Not saying these two things are connected but in recruiting there are so many moving parts and strategic value in who is and who isn’t pursued.
OT but IMO the reason I believe we went so hard and blind on LBs is because of the pipeline to Southdade. It’s pretty rare to sellout for one kid who isn’t a top 100 player but here we are.
