And??....they wanted to bring some of their coaches (specifically Candle) and Mario balked....HUGE mistake...
OK, so if mistakes were made, correct them. We can't go back in time.
Also, Mario's blueprint is centered entirely on recruiting. If Candle, or some other coach, wanted to bring his entire staff and Mario felt they wouldn't be able to recruit at the level he's expecting, then that could be an answer as to why he didn't go that route.
We need to find a happy medium, and I know we're all just trying to beat Duke and Middle Tenn State at this point, but Mario is looking at a natty for the ceiling here. We have 50 hurdles to clear before we get to that level, we all know it and Mario knows it, but the lifeblood of this program will be centered around recruiting, period. You cannot win a natty without multiple ~Top 5 classes. It's a proven fact. So if he interviews an OC, and the dude will only come if he's able to bring 5 assistants with him, and Mario doesn't believe those dudes will be able to recruit Top 5 talent, then he's going to move on. The only solution here is to find a competent OC who either has a staff of elite recruiters around him (very few and far between), or an OC who is essentially a "one man band" who might want to bring some analysts, perhaps a couple assistants and Mario can surround him with other elite recruiters.
Dan Mullen, come on down.
