Why did Ray Lewis drink TWO gallons of water per day?

Excessive water consumption by endurance athletes can cause an unhealthy depletion of electrolytes, through perspiration and urination. They need to make sure they include these electrolytes when hydrating.

The condition is called hyponatremia, when the sodium in an athlete’s blood plummets to a dangerously low levels.

Thats why I drink either Cranberry Juice or Gatorade (G2 less Sugar) in between...

That’s why I always mix in a zero cal gatorade/Powerade, or a carby gatorade/Powerade, if I feel I need the carbs/calories. I don’t know anyone that doesn’t do this. Also a few melon slices, half a banana etc

The stuff @Liberty City El will actually cover your electrolytes as well and is healthier

Still, tons of water though

It helps with hydration in the heat and maybe diet too . I easily drink two gallons of water a day in the summer along with a Powerade or two . My brother drinks that much everyday to help keep him full . He runs miles everyday and works out . That with water keeps him down to 240 . Without the water and a few weeks eating poorly he can be 300 lbs . Some guys just have to do things like that to stay at a healthy weight

That's not hard to do in the south Florida sun and there's nothing wrong with being hydrated to prevent cramps. I never measured how much I drank during two days back in my youth in the south FL heat but I felt like I couldn't drink enough.
Back when I was working on pipelines, we'd go through two 5 gallon coolers of water during those hot, summer jobs. 8-10 gallons for 3-4 people. Even then, we were still thirsty. Two gallons of water for a football player in Florida isn't shocking at all.

I was thinking back on some youtube vids I watched about him, and for some reason this is the one thing that stood out to me.

I know there's a lot of big time strength/speed coaches on here, this seems like over kill does it not?

Not really. I was drinking close to two gallons a day boxing in NYC at 200 lbs. Ray lewis is what 265 lbs and in south Florida. I can see me drinking the additional .4 gallons a day in that heat and that much more weight on me.

This is true, but they are not talkign about a 265lb beast who is training in the hot sun all day. To avoid this you can drop a pinch of salt in your water. Also, steroids/HGH increases the amount of water your body needs and you cramp easier than a natural person.

The number one reason to drink water is to take proper shots the next am. That and only that

Does the OJ and vodka from screwdrivers, coke and rum, straight bourbon count? If yes and I can throw in all day coffee then I use to do couple gallons a day easy. Now that I’ve given up coke and cut down on booze and coffee, I doubt I get half gallon of water a day.

I can barely get one gallon in a day. I hate drinking water. I know its good for you and all that but I could really do without it. I try hard every day to get a gallon in and fail miserably lol.
I 've always drank very little water and was very aware that it is good for you, great for the kidneys and general health. But now that I'm in my sixties I found out (on my own) what drinking water prevents... constipation. You figure doctors would mentioned it but instead they just prescribe meds and the problem persists. Now I drink a minimum of 500ml (water bottle) when I wake up and continue drinking water during the day but not excessively... about 2 to 3 liters... more when I'm sweating.
