My personal preference is a pro style O and a tough D but I just don't see that as part of the college football landscape --- outside of a few dominant SEC teams
- Kids .... and I think So Fla kids want to be part of a fast paced O
- And they want to play for a HC that has a reputation for this brand of football --- not their coordinator

The above coaches dont bring that - they are all know for their D -- we have to look at Fuente, Herman and Morris

And one more item on Butch
- while he would be an interesting hire (especially over some of the other names mentioned) he has been out of football for 5 YEARS
- for the life of me I cant think of any coach that has been away from the game that long and come back .....ever
- and you cant say Urban - he actually was out of football for less than a year

And please don't tell me he turned down other offers --- their is zero evidence of that

If you are a big supporter of Butch you have to admit ....it is really strange for him to be out of the game for that long

Butch brings in talent and has the pedigree to hire someone that will run whatever O he wants.

Butch isn't a dumbass. He knows the culture. He's more than just a Def. guy

Also, interesting you mention he's been out for 5 years. How long has Golden had the job? Looks like he's waiting for something..

Right ^ one thing Butch did was put the proper pieces around him to be successful. I'd have full confidence in Butch adjusting to the times as needed something our current coach can't or refuses to do.

Kids want to get to the league. Butch brings an impressive record of placing kids in the league and having them prepared as well. Some of these super spread teams don't prepare these kids to succeed in the league
Butch would also bring a toughness and attitude as well
Bring back butch

I can't figure out why Butch Davis isn't coaching. Honestly, does anyone know why?

The decision as to who to hire isn't nearly as important as the decision to fire this douchebag asap. If UM doesn't make that decision soon, then the time is right for SI to run another article and cover calling for Miami to fold the program. A Golden-led program is literally worse than having no program at all.

I get what you're saying. With Butch, you get elite talent evaluation and a commitment to developing and nurturing that talent. The remainder lies within the staff that is hired. A respected and successful HC will attract and procure the staff necessary to helping the roster develop and achieve their goals of reaching the league.

The biggest change @ UM at the moment is the commitment to APR/course work...and not a successful and winning football program.

Get a real FOOTBALL coach...not an academic whip *******. Pulling soph players in to the office and telling them they're not going to the league, and increasing coursework isn't going to cut it.

Elite talent evaluation/development, keep the NFL dream alive, less academic burden....then, the whole spread/pro scheme.

Don't get the "he's been out of coaching too long" noise. He forget how to coach? He been out at sea on a shrimp boat the whole time or something? ****, I believe he's watched and analyzed a lot of football during that time myself. Maybe that alone would actually improve his game day coaching. Alabama, Georgia, LSU, etc say they can still get top talent as well. Give me top shelf defense, and power running game all day.

Also, wasn't he an adviser under Schiano with the Bucs? I know he was something like that under him for at least 1 year if not 2. Schiano wanted him on his staff as DC but something to do with leaving NC only allowed him the position he ended up getting in front office.

Something along those lines. Been awhile since I read about it.

Go look at the teams that have won titles since 2000. Then check where they ranked in scoring defense.

Defense still wins championships.

I call bull****....

The top offenses in college football cannot be stopped. Those scoring D stats are skewed by ****** opponents.

Ohio State had a great defense last year? Are you kidding?

Do me a favor. Go look at the teams that have won titles since 2000. Then check where they ranked in scoring defense.

It's a lot easier to be consistently at the top if you have a good D. A good offense helps and makes a lot of teams contenders but the defense always shows up, offense is more likely to have a bad week.

No thanks on the Texas Tech style you speak of.

I kinda agree, the pro style is dead, we need a nee style guy, gimme herman he knows how to win, does what it takes, we bring in those guys we will see the same pro style that doesnt work now a days, the only guy we should be considering is herman look at houston dominating teams he should be the only choice

I like that choice. Like Ohio states style, but they still run it, alot!
