Why Butch, Pruitt, Schiano & Strong dont make sense

Pro style isn't dead. Pro style is a combination of a good defense and a good offense - balanced.

No defense can stop offenses. But great defenses can stop offenses frequently.

It's about how Butch recruits. He recruits athletes first and last. THEN, it seems he moves them around to where they'll excel to the top of their game.

That's a function of evaluation - which Butch is so very good at. A kid may have played another position all through high school, but size, speed, and smarts in college may suggest he'd be better playing a new position.

That's one thing Butch excels at. Recruiting the best athletes, and putting them in a position to play.

Butch loves power, but he loves speed and quickness more. Speed kills - the opponents.

If I were a hotshot player - I want to play where I can use what I have, get better, and have a shot at the Big Show after college.

That means - not Saban. Not a lot of top coaches. That means Butch Davis.

This program as such is damned near dead. Do you REALLY want to put it in the hands of another GUESS?

Or someone already proven to fit perfectly at UM?

My personal preference is a pro style O and a tough D but I just don't see that as part of the college football landscape --- outside of a few dominant SEC teams
- Kids .... and I think So Fla kids want to be part of a fast paced O
- And they want to play for a HC that has a reputation for this brand of football --- not their coordinator

The above coaches dont bring that - they are all know for their D -- we have to look at Fuente, Herman and Morris

And one more item on Butch
- while he would be an interesting hire (especially over some of the other names mentioned) he has been out of football for 5 YEARS
- for the life of me I cant think of any coach that has been away from the game that long and come back .....ever
- and you cant say Urban - he actually was out of football for less than a year

And please don't tell me he turned down other offers --- their is zero evidence of that

If you are a big supporter of Butch you have to admit ....it is really strange for him to be out of the game for that long

**** Vermeil was out of football for 15 years. And when he came back, he won a Super Bowl.

Bill Synder... and yes he pushed our **** in last time we played him

the reason a lot of guys feel comfortable with butch is that he knows the importance and has a proven record of getting elite talent in the trenches, its no coincidence fsu started their run once jimbo started stacking all that 4 and 5 star talent on the d line. butch is the guy that can compete with him for recruits like that, he can get you a robert quinn or marvin austin type, damione lewis, bryant mckinnie etc.

Was just about to post this

He has been out of football for 5 years - true - but he has been around the game for that entire time. From everything I've read about him, he's still very much plugged into the college football landscape. He can be the hire and I have the confidence that he can surround himself with top notch coordinators.

Its dead, all i read was butch butch butch, offense wins in college, plus you need elite kids for it to work and even then its easy for teams to stop, i wouldnt mind his defense but pro style in college is dead, high scoring offense aggressive *** defense wins

No, defense ISN'T dead.

If it were, we'd only be fielding offenses.

Wake up.

I completely agree about not wanting Schiano or Strong here. But Butch would have an immediate impact. He has proven that he can build a physically dominant team as he did it at UM as well as UNC to a point. He has instant credibility the second he steps on campus and into the halls of the local high schools. He would put up the fence around the "State of Miami" again that Golden has been talking about for five years now.

I do however agree with the OP as far as the style of offense. I would like to see something a little bit more wide open with all of the athletes that in our own backyard. If you can couple that with what you know Butch will put on the field defensively we would be awfully tough to beat a couple of years down the road.

LOL at people screaming about spread offense, did that work for Auburn in '13? How about Oregon in '14? DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS AND BUTCH DAVIS IS THE ANSWER!!

If I'm not mistaken, Butch Turned down the FIU job a few years ago after Cristobal got canned

Good call on Vermeil & Snyder but I think we would agree - not many

Still dont see anyone explain why Butch hasn't been hired

Not sure I would say Ohio State won with D last year
- Team averaged 45 Points against D1 programs last year

But even more telling. Against Bama and MSU they gave up 36 points a game but scored on average 47 POINTs
- I know you would agree Saban and Dantonio are pretty good at coaching D

College football is about scoring points - time to adjust

PS If you score points and become relevant again... we will get plenty of D players in our back yard .... but we have to get back on the radar fast

What amazing defenses won championships recently? Was this last BCS championship game a defensive struggle? The playoff games before it? You mentioned games of opposites teams having averaged a ton of points too
