Who are AD names?

Exactly. We need to shape the long term direction and focus of this program with a proven and seasoned senior executive like Alonzo. His type of experience and contacts to the NFL and professional sports in general is what Miami sadly needs. We need a long term plan and not just a next season plan. Alonzo understands the importance of player development as well as the importance sports provides to a university program. It's all about proven leadership and that's what he brings to the table. It's nonsensical that the University admin blindly continues to show no spine when they can and should hire someone like Alonzo who is actually interested in providing help and guidance that we have been lacking in for so long.

For sure, man. Is he the safe hire? No, but imo he’s the right man for the right job at the right time.

We need a transformational leader, not a rehash from some smaller school

This ain't meant to be condescending, but why? His work at Louisville for football was subpar. I am sure there is more to it tho.

From one of their former trustees who wanted to bring him back.

He took over at Louisville in 1997. His first hire, John L Smith inherited a one-win team in 1997, the Cardinals went 7–5 in 1998 and were 41–21 (.661) through 2002 with five straight bowl appearances and CUSA titles in 2000and 2001. Smith left for MSU. His very next hire was Bobby Petrino, who went 41-9. He missed on the next hire, Steve Kragthorpe but didn't let that mistake last long, firing him after year 3. He then brought in a first time HC named Charlie Skrong, who had back to back 11 win seasons in year 3 and 4.

After Skrong left for Texas, he brought back Petrino before being wrongfully terminated. Petrinos 2nd stint wasnt as good as his first but he coached a Heisman Trophy winner in Lamar Jackson and they dealt FSU their worst loss ever. It wasn't a terrible 2nd stint for Petrino while Jurich was still AD, two 8 win seasons and two 9 win seasons, including tying for 1st in the acc Atlantic. Jurich was wrongfully terminated in 2017 so the 2018 2-8 season isn't on him.

So in football he made 1 bad hire (Kragthorpe) but pulled the plug quickly, 2 solid hires (Smith and Petrino the 2nd time), and two homerun hires (Strong and Petrino).

He made a grand slam hire in basketball with Pitino, who was there from 2001-2017. Pitino had a .750 winning %, went to the elite eight 6 times and final four 3 times.

Couple takeaways.

1. Louisville did not belong anywhere near the ACC (academically terrible) but Jurich managed to get in

2. Him hiring Pitino and Petrino the 2nd time established that Jurichs #1 priority was winning. He did not give a **** about a coach's image or reputation. All that matters was winning games.

3. I trust he will make a good hire. If he misses (no one bats 1.000) he will rectify the mistake quickly.

4. I want to see Rick Pitino take over the bball program. He'd come if Jurich asked.

I mentioned this somewhere else a while back but I'd bet Heather Lyke at Pitt would get at least a freakin' interview. She's well respected in the ACC but this board should rightfully meltdown if we actually seemed serious about hiring her.

Another name to remember is Jesse Marks.

That aside, I'd give Oliver Luck a call.

Highsmith could walk in to any room and command respect instantly. Not because he’s a former Cane and not because of his past laurels, but because the man is an alpha dog straight to the core. He’s a born leader. Spend 5 minutes with the guy and I guarantee you’ll want to hire him.

He’s not the guy who’s gonna go to ****tail parties and beg for donations…but he’s the guy who’s gonna walk in to a locker room, command respect, and turn around the culture. He’s a program builder AD, and that’s what we need right now…and it has nothing to do with him being a former Cane.
Next think you know he has all his friends on staff and can’t fire them.

I have an MBA from Yale and I’m a Managing Director at one of the biggest banks in the world. Believe me, I know management and I’ve lifted a few books.

Highsmith is who I would hire. Personality is the biggest reason. He’s a natural leader, and this university needs a culture shift. He’s the guy I’d pick to shake things up.

He also has spent years in NFL front offices, which means he has contacts in the coaching world. He knows what a big time coach looks like, and if he calls them on the phone, they’ll pick up.
But being an AD isn't just about Football... There's a ton of other programs to run as well as all the behind the scenes stuff... I don't think anyone takes all that into account as well... To do his job right means taking care of everything.

me

ill keep blake james to do nothing but fund raise as some bs assistant, give it to me to handle everything

I just can’t see us pulling a well respected P5 AD from a decent program. So no Auburn. No Louisville (don’t forget about their basketball program). Yes I don’t even think we would get ASU.

If we do move on from Blake then I’m thinking it’ll be another bargain hire with hopefully more experience. I don’t know much about AD world but my guess is it’s much easier to find a competent AD from a G5 program than it is to find a HC.

And I think Highsmith would be a terrible idea. Outside of Barry Alvarez, can someone give me some big name AD’s that were successful? The top ADs out there are just boring smart hires.

It would be Miami to bring back an *** kissing lackey of Blake’s rather than doing a proper search and seeing what else is out there. I don’t know why he left and don’t really care. He was part of the problem by default.
