What this program needs

False , scheme matters today more than ever.

Bama went to more spread , rpo and using tempo because they know they needed to change with the times. The same reason why they recruit mostly dual threat qb’s.
We can agree to disagree. 90% of the time the team with more talent wins.

Sure, there are plenty of instances where upsets occur by a team with lesser talent... Which is also usually the result of better coaching and the fact that anything can happen with 18-22 year old kids.

Look at teams like UNC and USC... Both took a huge step back after losing Trubisky and Darnold. The scheme was the same but didn't have the talent.

Bama changed with the times because they finally got a QB that could throw. They were winning before and winning now... Because they have more talent.

Sabag admitted he had to adjust or get left behind. As much as I detest that sumbitch, he's the standard bearer.

The next Riley has been climbing the ladder since Baylor.

Baylor
Fau
Houston
FSU

Churns our Top 5 offenses like turds after Taco Bell. He’s on the fast track to stardom.

We’re sitting on our asses watching.

We missed a great opportunity because of the assssholes we have running the program.
Briles at UM would have been epic.

He said one of the best at the business side of the spectrum. In other words, the money side of being an AD. If you feel he is not good at making money, that's your prerogative. Most of us have an issue with the athletic side of his AD role.
My point was giving the HC a buyout that you know you can't pay if fiasco - aka 2018 season - occurs is a mistake on the business side

If Richt is a corpse trying to kill us, he really is a zombie

But seriously, much of college football is now a race to 40 points(if not more) and it's very much an offensive game.

Richt is the rotary phone in an I-phone era
I liken the clap claps to smoke signals.

He’s one of the best ADs in the business but we have our head coach donating a million dollars and still fall short?

Give me UCFs AD. Guy just made two consecutive great hires and probably will a third time.

Good hire in baseball too with Lovelady. If the UCF AD (White) is hired, Heupel's buyout drops 50%. Then we've got ourselves a stew.

@The Franchise I agree completely that that is the formula for championship football at Miami.

That said, I think the University first needs to decide what it is trying to be.

Does it want to be on academic first institution who is solid but unspectacular at sports?

Does it want to be an elite athletic institution whose AD functions in its own silo?

Right now, having had terrible results against competition at both ends of that spectrum, we are in purgatory-- neither excelling nor building towards either.

We are unfortunately trending towards the former. Our competition has no problem and no backlash hiring a guy like Kendal Briles.

If we want to change the directionality, then it's pretty clear that this staff has run its course entirely.

If we are going to be stuck with its fearless leader another few years, then you must ask him to change his role entirely and force him to hire real coordinators with legitimate play calling experience.

That includes on the defensive side of the ball we're promoting the two cafecito boys was a gigantic joke. That has a high probability of leaving us in the same predicament in the future, but this time on the defense.

It’s what you say, but it’s also ruthless in terms of kids. If we want to be the Harvard of the South, we should drop major football. Our advantage is local kids. Embrace them. It’s not a choir, so we shouldn’t aim at choir boys. We sure weren’t back in the ‘80s and ‘90s. Talent matters, but culture does too. Gluten had the right idea early on with some edgier kids like Eddie Johnson, Terry, Paul, Blue, Grooms, Gadbois, Finnie. I’m not hyping those particular guys, but they were kids with a bit more risk in their profile, iirc. The school promplety kicked several of them out and Gluten went back to the less edgy kid formula. Richt is about as unedgy as you can get, in any case.
Man, whatever happened to Eddie Johnson after hinds?

Briles at UM would have been epic.

Epic right up until his name pops up again in a lawsuit against Baylor. The one thing that a coach can't be associated with nowadays is *** crimes, especially in Miami. NCAA would love to find a way to nail us. Briles needs a few scandal free years to get away from the Baylor stuff. But why aim so low? Briles is maybe ok for OC, but a poor choice for HC.

Better coaches available. Heupel runs an Art Briles-inspired offense (#1 offense in the country) , knows how to be a HC, and has no baggage.

Did I miss something? Why are we talking about something that’s not going to happen this offseason?

Jalen Hurts can throw? (they changed their offense before Tua arrived)

Bama has completely changed the way they recruit on offense AND defense due to scheme.

Of course talent matters, but scheme gives you the edge when the talent is close.
Innovative schemes are what keep programs like Oregon, Washington State, etc...on the college football map. Those teams would be absolutely atrocious without any scheme.

You all wishing and hoping for Urban Meyer are living in fantasy land.

Miami couldn't come close to affording Urban, his potential staff, or providing him with the infrastructure to succeed down here. He'd ask for the bag man and Miami would say "what bag man?" and itd be a wrap.

Urban just went 12-1 at Ohio State. There’d be no reason to step down there if you’re wanting another job. This isn’t like when he went 8-4 after Tebow left

1. Nobody gave a chit when he took a job at FAU.

2. Nobody gave a chit when he came back to the State of Texas and worked at Houston.

3. Nobody gives a chit now when he is at FSU.

--------------------

I have no doubt he knew stuff was going on but does anyone (including the media) actually allege he was heavily involved?

This staph has proven everything I NEED TO KNOW. No need to continue this charade! This coach hired 2 incompetent buffoons to run the defense, that was good NOT great, for the upcoming year. And next year, the defense will be ranked in the 90's- 100, #watchthefinish.
The big wigs at Miami need to ax this staph, and quick.... hire a young innovative coach and the process will take 3 years the most. Stick with this uneducated regime, we will suffering up to another 10 years.

I meant for OC.
I would not want a first time HC
