What must Al accomplish to stay off the hot seat next year?

He's 1-22 in his career against teams with fewer than 5 losses.

He went 0-4 this year against the best teams on the schedule and lost by an average score of 41-19.

He's a career .500 coach

He's been a DC or HC for 13 seasons, his total defenses have averaged a ranking of 68th.

He's fielded a top 30 overall defense only 2 times in 13 seasons.

He's finished with a defenses ranking 80th or worse 6 times in 13 seasons.

I've seen all I need to see.

you clearly lack perspective.. which is fine.. but essentially you're holding it against him that his first gig as a head coach was at temple, which is ridiculous... i don't care what he did as DC with groh.. the only experience that directly correlates is his time at temple with Donof as his DC.. that defense improved each year.. was a top 20 D their last season.. and with all of their players the year after it was top 15..

The difference is Shannon had no track record of being able to get it done. We have actual proof that Al can get it done, and put together a good defense as well.

That is wrong....we have proof that Al can get a team that has NO EXPECTATIONS to an 8-9 win season.....Like Jethro did at Vandy.

We have NO PROOF that he can get a team that is EXPECTED TO WIN to 11-12 win type seasons.
We have NO PROOF that he can beat a good team.

We have HOPE not PROOF.

getting temple to 8-9 wins is a huge success..that's proof enough for me.. temple had won like a total of like 5 games the 4 seasons previous to al's arrival.. getting that to 8-9 wins is like getting is to 11-12 wins.. go check out what temple has done since golden left.. and you're right.. we have no proof that he can take a team that's expected to win .. to 11-12 wins.. he hasn't coached that type of team yet though.. none of his teams thus far have been 11-12 win caliber teams.. that's just the truth.

What do you call last year's team? We beat a ****** VT and Duke and we have 11 wins. Duke's team sniffed 11 wins -- are we much lower caliber talent wise, or maybe just a much lower caliber coach?

Also, if he can't field an 11-12 win caliber team in Miami 4 years deep, that's on him. Cloud or no cloud. We've gotten top ten classes -- if he's a good coach, it's time for a top ten team. Or maybe at least one that looks ******* competent in a bowl game

Speaking of Duke, their schedule is a JOKE this year, and they were a very young team last year. We are their toughest game, and they beat us last year. They could win the rest of their games even if they lose to us and possibly go to the ACCCG if we drop two conference games along the way...

He must not kill a hooker while smoking crack, other than that his fate is sealed.

Weren't they in the Big East the prior years? The Big East might not be some super conference like the SEC or even the Big 12 etc, but they are far better than the MAC and those other crap conferences. So of course this team that is a horrible team, looks even worse when in a BCS conference, even if its the lowest BCS conference. Big East 2004, Independent 2005, MAC 2006.

Since we like to talk bout trends so much, lets talk about the schedule Temple played while Al was there. His first year, his worst year, they played 5 BCS teams, Clemson (nothing special back then), Louisville, Vanderbilt, Minnesota, and Penn St.

Over the next 3 years the schedule got worse. They played Penn st 3 years in a row and Connecticut 2 years (07 & 08). No other BCS teams. Then in 2009, they only played one BCS team in the regular season and then had to play UCLA in the bowl game. While these teams mentioned were not exactly world beaters, they were BCS level teams, better than the average bowling green and army type teams.

The only thing Al proved is that with an easier schedule (less BCS teams, and moving into the MAC where he could get free wins against scrub teams, his numbers would improve.

Looks like Al didn't get my message below about NOT getting embarrassed on national tv for the 4th straight year.

It's simple...

DO NOT GET EMBARRASSED ON NATIONAL TV FOR THE 4TH CONSECUTIVE YEAR.

Just compete, win the 8 or 9 games that this team is talented enough to win and don't lose any by more than 10 points.

As for Onofrio, that D better be Top 50 (generous) or his useless *** can kick rocks.

The goal in year 4 is to win the ACC.

To stay off the hot seat? He has to win 10 games and the coastal. Anything less and the fan base will be livid.

i expect a loss at Louisville to set off a terrible season.

Hmmm...rumors of friction within our program has already started.

If we lose to Nebraska the wheels will completely fall off and things will snowball fast.

Lmao at LRG in this thread.

He's like Homer Simpson in the episode where he becomes a boxer. He just gets his *** kicked repeatedly and remains just as dumb and unfazed.
