But Butch climbed out from that cloud - and put together the greatest college football team of all time.

Too bad Shalala and UM slow-played him for trying to cheap him out on his contract - right up until Butch had to make a decision to take the sure money at Cleveland - or wait and see if UM would come off the dime. Time ran out - and so did Butch.

UM has been cheap since day one. Real cheap. And that's why we've been in the crapper for so long. Cheap ******** - cheap administration, cheap BOT, and cheap alumni. Cheap - bone deep.

They finally come off the dime to get Richt - and then Richt along with others have to fund the IPF - Richt is down for a million!

Butch wanted to stay - but UM couldn't agree to the contract. And has that ever cost UM a ton of money in the long run.

If Butch Davis couldn't win it all in 2000, why does he win the next year?
Back in 1999, his coaching decisions resulted in all three losses. Penn St, ECU???, , FSU.
Talent evaluator, why Ryan Clement for 3 long years? Scott Covington was clearly better, after 98 season Botch say Scott would have a 10 year NFL career. Huh?
Flying the coop, for the Browns, shows great Football acumen, right.

JJ told Olividatti to basically take his Def and flush it down the toilet.....Butch told me a story once...about the entire JJ vs Olividatti argument about what Def UM should run....LoL....Olividatti resigned immediately....

Erickson won 2 NCs with JJs kids....The 89 and 91 teams were 90% JJs.....After that...Erickson was a NOTORIOUS lazy recruiter....

Your an Idiot....1999 Penn St was on Butch??....TFOH with that BS.....Blame the Ref who shorted James Jackson a yd which would've ended the game.

Wrong, JJ was hired after the coaching convention.
He had to keep any assistant that wanted to stay.
Olividatti went to the Dolphins for 84.
Miami DC 84 was Bill Trout..

My cousin was a GA on the 86 team...and coached under Butch for 6yrs.....

The fact is that the U became the U under Howard. And Howard set the tone. It is about hunger and dominance, period. You win at Miami (players and coaches) and then you go pro. That's the model. The "modern Miami" is not predicated on coaches who stay until retirement. Although that may change as that is what Richt says he wants.
