What do you all make of Pickett's fake slide?

Yeah, they have to outlaw that sort of thing. The slide is to protect the player. Once you start the motion, that’s it. You’re down
No fumbles allowed then once you start the slide?

The fake slide shouldn’t be legal

I don’t think Pickett was trying to fake a slide; I think he was about to slide, and saw he had space to run.

But you can’t neuter these defenders, and at the same time let offensive players do this stuff. Not fair.
When have rules makers cared about being fair to the defense. Not right but the way it is

Agreed that it needs to be banned, if you want defensive players to not bring the hammer on Qb's you need to give defenses a fair playing field. I don't blame Pickett for doing it but it needs to be changed this offseason.

Yeah they’re going to have to address this one. That can’t be allowed, defenses are already neutered in what they cannot do and they shouldn’t have to worry about trickery like this.

they need to address play stopping fake injuries as well while they are at it. they sit out one play and right back in...... change the rules out for remainder of series on any injury stoppage or some figure more then one play. BPD is still laughing

Once the QB starts his slide, isn’t he down? Update the rule to redefine ‘start’ and we’re good.

But, the WF defenders shouldn‘t have pulled up so soon. They don’t need to take his head off, they’re probably in the mindset ‘he’ll slide‘, but still need to make sure he does.

I’m not sure how that works tbh. I do know that they mark the QB down where his slide starts so I’d have to assume that the ball is no longer live

Def a smart play by him. He needs to be mad at his players. You make sure he goes down
According to the rules ... he is down at the spot that HE BEGAN HIS SLIDE and if he is hit during the slide it can be a personal foul.

great play by pickett as the rules are today. They need to outlaw the play and make it an unsportsman like conduct penalty.

It’s the same thing when a QB runs down the sideline and defenders let up because if you breath on a QB it will cost you 15 only for the QB to tip toe for a few more yards.

Clawson is a bit salty about it:

I think you play to the whistle, but I can see where penalties and injuries could result from if it became normal.
I would like to see TVD incorporate that into his repertoire. Brilliant move by Pickett.
