Well, It's Official: **** Butch Davis

I love Butch, I know he's not perfect. I think the reason I'm desperate for him to be the hire is because I have a horrible feeling that if it's not him it will be Cristobal or Strong or Chud, all of whom are much worse candidates than Butch. I just don't see us making a big name hire. The last 10 years have beat me down.

So instead of demanding excellence you will just let the admin give u another lazy uninspired cheap hire? And you wonder why they don't care?

Lol at recruits today want to play for Butch.

Butch he would be a great recruiter, don't get me wrong.

But most of who he would be recruiting were still ****ting their pants last time Butch was coaching in south Florida, and they were barely having wet dreams let alone dreaming of playing for Butch when he left uNc.

I bet you half the recruits couldn't even name the school that Butch last coached for. That's how much kids follow this stuff.

You'd be amazed.

Just a wild guess. I'd imagine that many recruits have actually watch The U Part 2.

I know. It's crazy, huh?

I also imagine that adults in the communities recall those hard times. And he's come up in conversations.

I also see a mythical build up of various coaches, all of whom "would kill it here."

Then you start looking at their overall body of work, and there's some big flaws there, too.

I would assume the UM collective on hiring a new coach will take a lot of factors under consideration. Past indicators suggest future tendencies.

Credibility. Hard to obtain, easy to lose. Credibility is built over time.

Butch or not, we'll get a good coach.

But for every tear down of say, Butch - it's just fun to pick at the other candidates.

Fortunately, this should be over in a couple weeks.

We are taking Shaq to school on January 11th.. and it may be on blind faith..Thats his choice.. I think what your missing @WhatTheHell, is that recruits actually wanna play for Butch. I'll agree, Butch wasn't the best game day coach, but I think with him being an analyst, his understanding is different. I believe he will also put together a really good staff to cover over his deficiencies as a game day coach. He'll stock the cupboard full and get the program back going. Don't see what all the hate is about.

Its 2015. Miami is 15 years removed from it's last title. If the coach comes in and doesn't win within the first couple of seasons, the cupboard will not get stocked b/c in 2015, kids don't want to play for mediocre programs.

This isn't 1996 where Miami coaches are able to get to know players better than any other staff. Cell phones and social media killed that years ago. Do you realize how different it was back then? A kid with an offer from Auburn got one in the mail, and the Auburn coaches had to hope and pray he A) had a phone line B) he picked up when they called. They couldn't text him after every win or tweet him or facebook him. So when Miami was ****** in 1997 we still had the massive upper hand bc the HC could come to the recruits school every **** weekend and built a relationship that no other school could touch.

THAT WAY IS OVER FOLKS. Now, if a kid has an offer from Auburn, he likely has just as much contact and relationship with them as he does the local team. That means the selling point for that kid is going to come down to HOW THE TEAM IS PLAYING. Yes, kids will come here bc of the brand and the location, but if the team sucks then all we have to draw kids is some documentary of how things were. You aren't "out relationship-ing" schools for SoFla recruits anymore. Technology ended that.

So you have to win. And win fast.

Technology isnt any different now than it was when Butch da Gawd was coaching at UNC.. your acting like we couldnt text, call, and get on facebook back from 2005 - 2010.. this is a reach. NO kids will not be lining up to play for Butch.. but thats what makes him such a good recruiter.. when he cant get the 5 stars he gets the 3 stars and develops them. Do you not trust Butch's evaluations and development of lower ranked recruits?
He had black Santa to make up for that parity in recruiting. GoldenShowers brings up a great point about recruiting today. Would be interesting to see how recruiting in 2015 would impact Butch without having a bag man.

Do you really need a bag man to recruit the right 3 and 4 stars?
I'm no recruiting expert, but those diamonds in the rough aren't as hidden as they once were. Things are very different than they were 15 years ago, **** even 5 years ago. Butch will get his, the real question is, will he get enough to offset his coaching woes.

I was a big Butch guy before the info started flowing that we were looking to make it rain and open the piggy bank.

But think about it...at this point, Butch is our floor. Our floor!!!! After 15 miserable years of ShanCoker GoldenO'frio, we are poised to have something to be excited about for once. Even our f'ed up administration should be able to get something right if they are being given a blank check.

I am trying to take Aaron Rodgers' advice and R-E-L-A-X, and just let the BBB sound-offs fade into the background. If we wind up with Butch, great! If we get someone who we are confident will be just as good or better, great!

Wtf are you talking about "the right 3 stars"? Butch had 1 top ten class according to rivals at UNC. The drafted players he coached there are mostly jags in the NFL, over drafted bc of what he did at Miami.

There is no magic secret undiscovered talent to be found that only Butch knows.

Only problem I have with the Butch deniers is that they over emphasize record, record, record. If record is all that matters, and no consideration given to circumstance, then they should be clamoring for the guy who went 60-15 (.800 WIN PERCENTAGE) at Miami. But they're not. So, the opposition to Butch is just as disingenuous as those who worship the guy.

I spoke with a number of current players families at the GaTech game and the overwhelming majority of current players and the recruits that they know in SoFla want Butch. Chud and Mario were also mentioned but according to them, Butch = NFL. I mentioned nothing about my preferences. Asked them about some of the bigger names being floated around, including Chip Kelly, and there wasn't much positive said. Seems that THEY are the ones pushing the "Miami guy" angle. That was one recurring theme. Need someone who understand Miami. As bull**** as that is, that's what they said.

Butch Davis recruited all of his well know dudes after his first year bump at UNC. His subsequent classes were as mediocre as the day is long.

His best players were all 4 and 5 star kids that he got to commit by doing what everyone on here thinks he would do: "show him the NFL cats".....but then he didn't win very much and that recruiting momentum died.

Radio Randy recruited more NFL talent than Butch. B/C Miami isn't a place that requires some brilliant secret recruiting. It needs great coaching. I don't want another coach who is losing 4 and 5 games in his third season, b/c I know that in 2015 that means your recruiting gets destroyed.

Can you really argue that Butch doesn't have an eye for talent??? that he knows how to fill out a roster with the right players? The fact that he had one top 10 class and so many players drafted tells you all you need to know.

Players dont get drafted bc of what their coach did at another program.. that's ludicrous.

And that's why you don't listen to the least educated, least intelligent group of people. You are talking 17 year old jocks. Would you hire someone to run your business based on the whims of what some 17 year old from the pork and beans wants?

No offense but I could "demand" excellence until the cows come home, my demands just like your demands mean absolutely nothing to the administration.

What you fail to realize is you and others are breaking your ****s out for something that happened 15 years ago. What has Butch done in the last 5 years? Nothing. What has he done in the last 10 years? Nothing.

When you look at Butch's entire body of work, there are a ****load of questions.

I was responding to AUcane's assertion that recruits don't know who he is. Try and follow along.

No I'm not. Why aren't you petitioning for the coach who went .800 at Miami? Since as your signature shows, record is ALL that matters.

For the record, and I've said it multiple times, I'd take Herman, Chip, Patterson, Gundy and many others. I also have reservations about Butch coming back, but if he does, he's better than many of the options floating around.

Of the kids that got drafted from UNC that were recruited by Butch, only Sly Williams and Quan Sturdivant wasn't a 4 or 5 star. Randy Shannon had more 3 star kids drafted than Butch. I'm sorry but I'm not going to sit here and believe that Butch is some purveyor of hidden gems.

And btw, those 4 and 5 stars stopped coming after his 2nd season where he wasn't winning enough. Kids don't want to play for mediocre teams. You can sell em the first year, but if you are fielding a trash team in your 3rd season that sales pitch falls on deaf ears. Have we not seen this pattern enough at Miami?

So only his time at Miami should matter...typical Butch dck rider.
