This reminds me of Florida fans demanding Steve Spurrier's return in 2005. They wanted to recapture the glory years and go with the familiar name. They were drunk off nostalgia and couldn't see straight. Luckily for them, their AD hired Urban Meyer and that "****amamie Mickey Mouse offense" of his, and he ran over the SEC and college football. 11 wins a year and 2 National Championships later, those fans dying to recapture the past and lacking the ability to adapt with the times and evolve are glad they were overruled by logic.

As you Butch Davis parishioners sit outside on the porch tonight, taking turns shouting "in my day!..." and clamoring for leather helmets and a "pro style offense," pray to your freckled God that men with more vision and foresight than you take control of this hire. Pray that they help turn Miami into a powerhouse once again, not an old man chasing past ghosts of greatness.

Butch is a nice fall ball option but he has been out of football for 5 years with minimal interest. There is no doubt the guy has an eye for talent but he has also lost his fair share of games with that talent. I am not against Butch but I would prefer a younger more innovative assassin.

Its 2015. Miami is 15 years removed from it's last title. If the coach comes in and doesn't win within the first couple of seasons, the cupboard will not get stocked b/c in 2015, kids don't want to play for mediocre programs.

This isn't 1996 where Miami coaches are able to get to know players better than any other staff. Cell phones and social media killed that years ago. Do you realize how different it was back then? A kid with an offer from Auburn got one in the mail, and the Auburn coaches had to hope and pray he A) had a phone line B) he picked up when they called. They couldn't text him after every win or tweet him or facebook him. So when Miami was ****** in 1997 we still had the massive upper hand bc the HC could come to the recruits school every **** weekend and built a relationship that no other school could touch.

THAT WAY IS OVER FOLKS. Now, if a kid has an offer from Auburn, he likely has just as much contact and relationship with them as he does the local team. That means the selling point for that kid is going to come down to HOW THE TEAM IS PLAYING. Yes, kids will come here bc of the brand and the location, but if the team sucks then all we have to draw kids is some documentary of how things were. You aren't "out relationship-ing" schools for SoFla recruits anymore. Technology ended that.

So you have to win. And win fast.

Technology isnt any different now than it was when Butch da Gawd was coaching at UNC.. your acting like we couldnt text, call, and get on facebook back from 2005 - 2010.. this is a reach. NO kids will not be lining up to play for Butch.. but thats what makes him such a good recruiter.. when he cant get the 5 stars he gets the 3 stars and develops them. Do you not trust Butch's evaluations and development of lower ranked recruits?

what recruits outside of Florida know about Butch right now? I'm sure he can sell them later on, but Butch Davis' brand isn't Nick Saban like - dont get it twisted

I try not to give these kids too much credit... like the kid who mentioned Radio being a candidate for the Miami job.. Alot of these kids dont "know" these coaches but know the name and they find out alot more after they start getting recruited by them. Butch doesnt need to have the Nick Saban brand bc he develops 3 and 4 stars to "stock the cupboard".

Your entire post is nonsense and wishful thinking. You think he's going to scrap his entire philosophy on coaching that he's had every year he's been a HC because he works on tv? You assume he's going to hire great coordinators even though he doesn't have a great history of doing that?

No one hates Butch. We hate the cult that ignores every negative about him and refuses to concede that there might be better options and refuses to honestly discuss any of Butch's faults.

I love Butch, I know he's not perfect. I think the reason I'm desperate for him to be the hire is because I have a horrible feeling that if it's not him it will be Cristobal or Strong or Chud, all of whom are much worse candidates than Butch. I just don't see us making a big name hire. The last 10 years have beat me down.
 
So much irony in the hullaboo around Butch considering how lukewarm everybody felt about him when he was here before. Even before he left for the NFL. Like others I think he is a fine fallback option. But I wouldn't want to pass on the next Jimmy Johnson just to hire Butch. And seeing that we are finally opening the purse strings comparatively, and have plenty of talent to make the position attractive for a coach that wants to win now, let's see what fish we might be able to reel in.

Butch is the Mythical unicorn bc everyone thought UM would never hire him back. People have been talking about bringing back Butch for years. It seemed like a movement to get everyone to believe it could happen.. with BBB crew throwing everything they could at you as to why it would make sense.

And dont believe for a second anybody believes Butch is the greatest coach in the world... but I know people like Dwins who believe he is the best coach for UM right now for our current situation.

I want the best coach possible.. Id lose my mind if we hired Chip Kelly. But Give me Butch before Charlie Strong.

Everyone should be happy we have Butch as a fallback option. If it wasnt for Butch I could see our admin ******* up and hiring another loser like Wario or Strong. Ungrateful mother ****ers..

The Anti-Butch menstruation continues. The vast majority of people are ok with the hire, get over it, move on. Conduct the retarded polls excluding his name, create threads excluding his name. The more it continues the more support the old man gets. There should be a genuine concern that a Cristobal hire is made or some of the existing staff is retained.

Butch Davis is the least of Miami Football's concerns.

Recruits want to play for Mario too so I don't put too much stock in that.
 
This is what happens when the public is all in on some corny line in Vegas...the smart folks pump the brakes and go the other way.
