We are Currently 15th in Total Defense

your eye test sucks if you can’t see how significantly improved UF has gotten.

Be better
Are u making this claim because we played them close? Did the eye test tell u they look significantly improved vs SCAR..or Kentucky..or LSU who pulled away..or is it just because WE played played them tooth to nail..are u sure u watch ball?

And let's be prisoners of the moment for a second too. Pitt receivers dropped a few balls yesterday including a potentially gamewinning TD with like 30 secs left. So we almost wouldn't even be having this "debate" today.

As has been established though- our D is decent to good and that should've been easily enough to walk away with the Corstal.

Kinda pathetic that most of us are pining just for an offense that maybe would match the best (not that it was phenomenal in any sense) that we had under Golden/Kaaya just to go with the our current D.

My biggest complaint about our defense is our third down defense. I do not understand why we continually go to a 3 down linemen with one of our best pass rushers lined up over center with those horrific delayed blitzes. When you see how well we rush the passer with 4 down linemen and no blitz to get us to third down and then to go to that nonsense of 3 down linemen and routinely give up a third and long. Agonizing!!!! Frustrating!!!

Can you imagine how lethal our third down defense would be with nesta and Ford up the middle with garvin, Rousseau or hill on the outside? We wouldn’t need to blitz and we can contain running QBs with that!!! Argh!!!! Pinga!!!

And ya'll want Baker fired? I understand the UNC debacle but our defense is statistically better than Alabama, Oregon, LSU and UF three quarters into the season

Nesta and ford aren't great pass rushers

Posted in a different thread:

Elite defenses don't:

1. give up a 4th Q TD (80 yard drive) to Feline Frankfurter to lose a game
2. give up a 4th Q TD (75 yard drive and 2 pt conversion) to a freshman QB to lose another game
3. give up a 4th Q TD (17 plays, 55 yards) and 21 first downs to a MAC team that went 1-11 last year to almost lose a game
4. give up a 4th Q TD (63 yards) to an abysmal Vag Tech team to lose yet another game
5. give up 21 first downs to a terrible UVa offense
6. give up an 80 yard drive at the end of the 1st half to an even worse GT offense to tie the game, then give up another TD in OT to lose (again)

Elite defenses aren't:

7. Ranked 63rd in 3rd down conversion %
8. Ranked 129th (only S. Miss is worse) in 4th down conversion %
9. Ranked 40th in passing yards allowed (especially against the awful teams we've played)
10. Ranked 85th in red zone defense
11. Ranked 46th in passing efficiency defense
12. Ranked 21st in sacks (considering the awful teams we've played)
13. Ranked 64th in turnovers gained
14. Missing 29 tackles against GT (couldn't find a ranking, but we all know they're probably ranked **** near last)

They may be the best unit we have, but that's a really freaking low bar, and they are a gazillion miles from even being considered a 'good' defense.

We had crucial drops and overthrows too.

If you want to get into those kind of discussions the whole missed FGs and PATs come into play as well.

Sure but those would be brought up if the discussion was about the quality of Pitt's D. We stillllll tend to **** the bed in big moments on D no matter what stats we put up.

Thankfully the play I referenced was an even bigger f-up by their receiver as he was wide open with a path to score and that was a good throw. He was probably the receiver we should've been most concerned about in that situation too.

Your point stands though that maybe there wouldn't be as many opportunities for the opponent to have potential big moments if our freakin offense just played to a remotely commensurate level as the D earlier in these games. Perhaps these games would be almost over in the 4th quarter.

We look considerably slower off the ball than we have the last few years. Our defense lives and dies off our D-lines ability to get up the field. So far #15 has bailed us out.

Yes.

We've played nobodies outside of UF.

The stats mislead, but since you're dropping them, hit me with the total offense stats of the squads we've gone against. I'll wait.

Hes also a horrendous recruiter so far.

What do you think we would do against a halfway decent offense?

So uh yeah. We can and should do better than Baker.

Fools gold. The Coastal is ******* terrible. Here is a look at the Total Offense we have played thus far:
Florida #58
UNC # 47
CMU # 52
VT #78
Virginia #104
GT #119
Pitt# 81

Miami’s Defense has played 1 team with an Offense ranked in the top 50 for Total Offense. We all saw what that 1 team did to us. Fans need to wake the **** up and stop being fooled by this overrated Defense. Díaz should thank his lucky stars he’s in the Coastal.

Im tired of seeing this from our DL. Bakers blitz schemes are No D level bad. We're 10x more effective when we don't do these stupid *** stunts that take half an hour to get home.

When we rely on our athletic edge rushers to get home like Rousseau and Hill we actually get pressure. These dumb 3 man fronts running stunts with linebackers on slow *** blitzs take forever to get there if they ever even do.

Here are some numbers for you. In Miami's four loses they gave up 24,28,42,28 points. In Miami's four wins they gave up 0,12,9,12 points. Not one of these wins is against a ranked team. So if Miami gives up more than 12 points they lose. It does not matter if Miami is # 1 in total defense. What high powered offense did this team shut down? Nobody. Where would this teams defense be ranked if it played in say the SEC west? Might drop from 15th to 75th. This teams play a soft schedule in the weakest division in power 5 football.

It’s not good , it’s not average and it’s definitely not bad. But it’s far from our biggest issue.

Just having an average to above average O it would look a lot better. They’re literally on the field all game , sometimes because of their own doing and a lot because our o is a three and out machine.

Theres two groups here....” the homer’s “ and “mopes” . Both as aggravating as the other and both rocking their own agendas.

Some of you won’t give any credit and but then make excuses for the positivity. Yet make excuses for the other team being awful is why we had the positive out come. No way it was our d.

Yes uva went inside our 30 a lot but we turned them away **** near every time. Which is how d is played in this era. You can’t flat out stop people anymore , you have to bend some.

We have guys that overrate our players then the others that crap on them and underrate them.

Fact is the d kept uva and Pitt out of the end zone, two games against pretty good teams. Let’s not act like they’re Bethune or Famu. Those teams have been scoring just fine before playing us.

It’s ok to say the d did a pretty good job those games , it won’t hurt you. Then you can go right back to ripping everything.

Underrated observation. This place people just tear **** up. Good, bad, OT, weather updates, everything.

Our defense isn’t Elite but around 20th overall sounds about right. They’ve played good enough to win. We should have expected a step back with the loss of Willis, jaquan, and Redwine.

This puts all the pressure on Enos imo. Our defense has given up 9, 7, then 12 in regulation and you didn’t go 3-0 in those games
