We are a real program again

Been waiting awhile for a big boy win like this against CFP competition that is well coached with the whole country watching in primetime. Kudos to Mario - we have our warts but back to back years we came out and had statement wins against UF and now ND.

@DMoney hey on pod today you were talking about how we never lose yards.... and you've said this a lot. But Just not losing yards is irrelevant if you're also not being sucessful at all. (also we lost yards twice I think).

Success for running is defined as gaining 40% of yards required on 1st down, 60% of yards required on 2nd down, and 100% of yards required on 3rd and 4th down.

THIS is 100% how you should be framing our Run game if the objective is to just be a methodical ground and pound unit. Solely talking about NOT LOSING yards is not how you win games. Gaining 3 yards on 1st and then 2 yards on 2nd doesn't lose yards. But it doesn't put you in a winning situation on 3rd down over the long run. One 1st we need to average >4ypc. Not just NOT LOSE yards...

Had Dawson called a pass play for Beck on that last MIA drive and an INT was thrown you saps would have been whining about the stupid play calling.
Are you that tone deaf to think we are complaining about the last drive? When I can call out where the ball is going, pre-snap, legitimately 75% (modest) of the time, don’t you think we’re making it harder than it has to be?! Why excuse it? We can be happy we won & still point out how inept the play calling was. Amateur hour.

so the flaws that prevented us from achieving what they wanted to last year are still persistent this year so we should be happy?
lol if you think we’re the same exact team from last year then based on what you saw last night then do you my g, I’ll enjoy the win against top 6 opponent and be back to watch another W on Saturday, be blessed ✊🏾

We were top 5 nationally in yards per carry last year. So we both avoided losses and gained yards.

Yes, but going forward SUCCESS RATE is the metric you should use, not just not losing yards. This game we seemed pretty bad at success rate, ESPECIALLY in 4th quarter. Yet we only lost yards like twice. VASTLY different things.

Seeing Justin Scott up close on the field yesterday… my god that is a massive human being. Blay and Scott are a natty level DTs. They need to be put in bubble wrap the next 2 weeks.

Jakobe Thomas was a pleasant surprise. He’s big and physical.

Keonte Scott is as advertised. Xavier Lucas as well - he has legit speed.

Not ready to write off Posyer, but may see Fitzgerald starting by mid year.

The band has to be fixed, what an eye sore that is with the entire stadium sold out, the band can’t fill up their section of the stadium

Do you have millions of dollars lying around that can be used to recruit and fund a world class marching band? It's not an accident that as the gap between state school tuition and private school tuition continues to grow, The Band of the Hour has gotten smaller and smaller. If we were to fund a 150+ piece marching band, we would likely be out millions per year at minimum, just putting together financial aid packages that would make sense for someone to come to Miami and major in music.

Maybe we have a donor that is willing to step up, but the athletic department(Who would likely be on the hook for it) likely has better things to do with that money. You could shrink the seating area for the band, but its not like you are going to make those seats available to the general public. Throw some extra students around them like we did at the OB, it helps fill it in, but honestly, it's such a non event, most rational people don't even notice it.

But you said, fix the band, and I don’t even think that’s possible based on the limitations that we both know exist. As far as fixing that section,I guess if that’s something that’s important to you, then maybe you can send an email to the athletic department.

I mean, I get that you think it doesn’t look good, but in the end, it did not affect the general atmosphere or overall look at the stadium, at least in my opinion.

When I got home last night after the game, I rewatched the game and to be honest, I never even noticed it. So if your thought is, it looks embarrassing, I’m not sure that it made a difference to those that were watching the game. At least not from my perspective.

Most people barely notice that the BOTH exists. it's just a reason for some people to complain about something, anything...

OK. I asked the legendary @Lance Roffers to pull last year’s success rate rankings.

We were 4th nationally.

Yes, last year we were the best offense in the country for a reason lol. I'm not saying that as an argument to say we have been a bad team at running. Even if I'm not the biggest fan of the overall running gameplan. I think it'd be far better at least just running pistol anytime we went condensed (and I was saying that all last year too) at the least which we did start to do more often last year....

But just factually what Im saying is this is how it should be talked about for what you're meaning. Not losing yards is meaningless if you don't have a good success rate to go with it. otherwise just sitting there spamming 2.5 yard runs could be seen as good. And hey i mean if you get 2.5 yard run after 2.5 yard run and go for it on 4th down every drive, you're picking up a 1st... But that'd only be a success rate of 25%....

It’s clear Mario/Dawson put an emphasize on minimizing negative plays. It’s not **** but it works.
It worked last year. Doesn't mean it will this year. It didn't work this past game against Notre Dame, Unless you think 3.4 ypc is good....

Last year
UF - 4.4 ypc
USF - 6.5 ypc
VTech - 5.2 ypc
Cal - 4.2 ypc
Louisville - 5.5 ypc
FSU - 5.8 ypc
GTech - 3.7 ypc
Wake - 7.1 ypc
Syracuse - 5.0 ypc

Like it's not crazy to say that is **** hitting my leg not rain... This was the worst YPC we've had in over a year, yet it worked? I mean why cause we got the win? That doesn't mean it was good enough.

in 23 we had three games below 4.0 ypc - A&M at 3.2 ypc, GTech at 3.5 ypc, NCSt at 3.7ypc, and FSU at 3.9ypc... And we had no Qb in some of those games lol. We obviously had a worse OLine and RB unit. ... So this was our second worst Rushing result in over 2 years for Mario with the only one worse was A&M who we passed all over...

I mean you tell me if that is objectively a good result running the ball or not. Idk how anyone can watch our 4th Quarter and not think we were horrendous running the ball and our gameplan and types of runs we were running were garbage. Plain and simple.

You know what is REALLY crazy, Imagine if we were able to hold on to Connor Lews commitment... he's the top Center prospect in this draft, and likely a 1st rounder if someone wants to draft a center that high. And we had him committed.
Trust in Mario and Mirabal for Olineman....

Barely related, did anyone else notice that on our first punt Justin Scott JUST missed accidentally shifting into the snap? I noticed on rewatch. He ducked out of the way at the last second but sweet jesus I am glad I missed that the first time around..
