We are a real program again

Actually my first reply provided the only two options that would have occurred if the DB doesn’t intentionally interfere on the play. I made no assumptions of the outcome. Since you are conveniently, again, leaving out that I did state either A) he catches the ball and scores, the safety was not in play due to the angle he had and Marion speed or B) Marion drops a would be touchdown. I never assumed the outcome. The fact still remains you attempted to imply we got “lucky” with that penalty when in fact UM created and forced that penalty. At least be intellectually honest with what you attempted to do by blatantly leaving out the entirety of what transpired on that play to promote the idea of being “aided”.

And yes, for whatever the reasons of the staff, they chose to play it very conservative after going up 21-7, and simplistic play calling. Would I have preferred a slightly more aggressive approach? Absolutely, but it doesn’t matter.

This staff chose that route against this team under those conditions, they chose a route to have their players, go mano a mano straight up against a good ND team and trust the players would do what needed to be done to win. Whether we like to the totality of the performance, the staff trusted in it and it came through.

Instead of enjoying and seeing it thru that lense, no we have a bunch of the same group who want to be proven right about their opinion on the staff coming out as if we lost the game. It’s almost as if they are upset we won.

The “Yeah But” crew is in full effect
Nailed it. I'm convinced that a fair number of our "Fans" are actually upset that Miami won. They actively root against success because they are miserable douchebags. There, I said it.

Great W last night against those fools. Big Qs for me going forward are: 1) How do we look physically on the lines after injuries invariably crop up? Depth this year may be the secret sauce we've been missing. 2) First game is always the hardest for coordinators to prep for. Now that we've put stuff on tape, how do our OC/DC adjust to other teams' game planning around our strengths and trying to expose our weaknesses? Case in point, Toney disappeared after halftime b/c they put their best corner on him. Those chess moves will only increase the more we play.

I understand the enrollment issues, put able bodies in those seats, shrink the section, or put orange shirts over the seats, do something other than spread them out like it’s Covid

Do something other than what their doing in that picture

But you said, fix the band, and I don’t even think that’s possible based on the limitations that we both know exist. As far as fixing that section,I guess if that’s something that’s important to you, then maybe you can send an email to the athletic department.

I mean, I get that you think it doesn’t look good, but in the end, it did not affect the general atmosphere or overall look at the stadium, at least in my opinion.

When I got home last night after the game, I rewatched the game and to be honest, I never even noticed it. So if your thought is, it looks embarrassing, I’m not sure that it made a difference to those that were watching the game. At least not from my perspective.

There’s a handful of that “yeah, but…“ crew that haven’t even posted. They are so ****ed off that we won. You probably know who they are.

A lot of QB’s with a ton of hype pretty much **** the bad in the first week.

Feel like playing with Arch Manning anymore?
How about whomever that QB is at Bama?
The OSU QB who managed to rack up 14 points?
The Colorado QB who looked mediocre at best?

Every single one of the high-profile, high priced QB’s I just listed looked like a LOT of wasted NIL money.

If I was a high school WR, by this point I would trust that Mario will go and get a stud QB in the portal (or any other position as well) if he feels that player is not already on his roster. And he still may go get a transfer. If Beck is drafted high next year, UM will have transfer QB’s begging to play. And I am confident the high school WR’s know that.
I understand where you’re coming from, but do not agree. The elite wide receivers coming out of high school and top portal candidates have options. Many options. Miami was not able to sign many of these players the past two seasons because at decision time Cam Ward and Carson Beck were not in the Miami quarterback room.

I’m not arguing against signing portal quarterbacks. I would try to sign a top portal quarterback every season, and if there wasn’t one available or one willing to sign look for somebody who can be a quality backup and add competition. Someone better than Poff was.

I don’t see why it has to be one of the other, a top high school quarterback or a top portal quarterback. I don’t buy into the argument true freshman quarterbacks will demand to start. Not at the top programs anyway. Underwood at Michigan is quite the outlier because the Wolverines literally had no one else. Jake Garcia is in their quarterback room for God sake.

What I would like to see is a transfer quarterback who has multiple years of eligibility. A QB who balls out his junior year can go pro but at least there’s an option.

This has always been the point when people wanna say I'm just being a homer cause Mario and the university mean this much to me. It's never been reality. I call a spade a spade & say what I see. What I think. We kept them in that game and had to stress it directly because of play calling. After Reubens pick(which he should've scored himself on) to call the same exact run plays we've called all game and settle for a quick 3 is absurd. Even more absurd the last drive of the game after we've had snapping issues throughout the game, the muffed snap early in the game and a field goal kicker who wasn't good enough for fau... That's how you wanna call the drive and put the game on a unknowns leg... Again not an issue to run the ball. But Jesus do we have more than 3 run plays in our game plan.
Framing this.

Just mind blowing. Do we not have a 2nd & short and 3rd & short play action where we hit a TE on a drag route or rub route?

**** it! Do an end around, shovel pass. ******* something that’s not the same bull**** HB five of the last 3 years in the 4th quarter or other tight spots in a game.

Watched the replay today and like you mention about the announcers calling the plays: running play to right behind Francis and Coop.

21-7 is step on the neck and break their ******* will and backs!!!

Trusting any college kicker, let alone one whom has never been in that spot is malpractice. Even if it was Borregales kicking I would be having the same reaction.

And can we please stop with the super bunched up formations especially on running plays? Spread people out. Stop inviting more defenders into the box.

Bro, not an end around. That’s a recipe for a 10 yard loss.

It has to be one or the other because QBs are expensive and spending big on experience AND upside is poor resource allocation. I'd rather have Miami take its time and make the right decision on a portal QB instead of rushing to get someone in the room so we can attract WRs.

It is risky, no doubt about it and I think they should always take a HS QB as well. But if there is a bidding war, I want it to be for someone with surefire experience.

The band has to be fixed, what an eye sore that is with the entire stadium sold out, the band can’t fill up their section of the stadium

It’s actually ******* sad. Even when they sr won the field they look like a cover band.

The pregame chant - “Give me an M…” bull**** is so 1960s.

Mario needs to take that over and overhaul it. (I am not joking).

I get the frustration in this thread especially the runs up the gut and conservative calls after we went up.

At the same time, we beat an arch rival who was #6 in the country after being in the championship game last year. We won by dominating both sides of the LOS with excellent QB play and decision making. With refs who were doing everything they could to help ND win the game. Someone on the game board was so ****ed at the ref bias he wrote he was converting from Catholic to Muslim lol.

All in an orange out that the entire nation was watching in front of a sold out crowd of raving fans who were having the time of their lives. Of the nearly 60k attending I would be shocked if there were 6k ND fans, the stadium was all Cane. What a great night and great time.

Bout to rewatch it... need to see the DB play because I was not impressed, but TBH I was fumbling over the roster and slamming G4 and sodas (if you don't know you better find out).

7 did not look like an NFLer. Can't recall much if anything all from Brantley, Lucas or O'Conner. Scott made a nice play but 7 tackled more of our guys than theirs from what I saw. I'm juiced for the win but we been told we have one of the best DB rooms in college. If that's not a serious upgrade over last year its hard not to be skerd. That was not anything close to what LSUs or ND.

We face a fresh QB but and we have a tough *** schedule. We have to be able to stop dynamic passing Os.

I watched the game over and to be honest Poyser had a few bad plays but didn't really play horrible. Jakobe is better than I thought and had some good plays. They didn't throw O'Conners way at all, he was good in coverage all day. Dimare played really good. Lucas had an ok game.

The biggest problem with the secondary was the scheme. These guys were routinely 10 yards off the ball and got on their bikes immediately. There were plays in the second half were the defender was 15 yards away from their man who caught the ball.

The only player I saw who just a weakness was Aguirre. He is easily swallowed up on blocks and not fast enough to be hesitant and he isn't a quick read which makes him a liability, He is basically Flagg without the instincts. Many of the big QB runs in the second half could have been impacted by him if he was more dynamic, harder to block and even quicker to the ball. I am ready to see Wiley develop because that's the type of dynamic athlete that position needs to make this defense unstoppable. Notre Dame is just not a dynamic offense and without Riley, 3rd downs are a big hill to for them to climb. The QB runs had more success than I liked especially since it wasn't by a good running qb.

by the way, this is a three year old problem. so much for all of the self-scouting they alleged to have done during the summer.
