Washington State WeAreUnited players released . . .

Might be able to negotiate stiff demands as a pro-athlete through a collective bargaining agreement but the collegiate level is a tough place to pull this one off. It's the development time of your career. There is a pipeline of kids that will play regardless if they receive compensation or not with just the chance at leaving college debt free.

If a lawyer sold them this bill of goods, they ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Straight up kids have no power in this fight and they shouldn't. All professionals pay their dues, most for much longer than four years and with far less recognition than these kids get while in college. You think wall street freshman, new grad lawyers, and medical interns are *****ing because their bosses and attendings are raking in the cash and using them to do the bulk of the dirty work. **** no! They pay their mfing dues and if they work hard enough for long enough it pays off.

I say to any college athlete complaining about their situation to swiftly **** right off. Pay your **** dues like the rest of us and STFU

I thought this was because they opted out due to COVID, so the staff had them clean out their lockers since they weren't practicing?

Except, they were kicked off the team.

No they were not kicked off the team. Stop spreading lies. They were asked to clear their stuff out of the locker room if they opted out of the season. If they opt out, they are not practicing or playing and cannot be in the locker room since they are not following all of the Covid-19 protocols. Why would kids who opt out due to concerns of Covid go into a locker room they fear could be contaminated?

So far that's the only facts there are. Other than that you have anonymous players and the parent of a player claiming otherwise to a reporter. This seems strategic to get the school to publicly make a statement about the issue and "raise awareness" to their cause.

So why call it "being released"? if they opted out, you wouldn't call it that.

They have to remove them from the roster if they are going to boycott the season. The kids are still on scholarship but will not be allowed to participate in any team activities for the rest of the season. Since they can't participate in team activities they had to clean out their locker.
