Don’t start this **** D 😂😂😂😂

I’ll say this I like the athleticism but the physicality at LB is lacking. He isn’t scared of contact but you just don’t see him running through anybody. All his tackles are just arm tackles
To me, that's a flag. Not a deal breaker at that age bc physicality tends to come with age, but something to monitor. Some kids are wired to play LB.....some are not.

When i'm breaking down LB play, i want to see 3 things - instincts #1, with physicality and solid tackling. If LBs aren't physical, they tend to get glued to blockers, or give up yards upon tackling vs stopping a guy short. Now none of that matters if the guy lacks instincts and/or is always late getting to the ball.
He gets there but there is no pop

Lmao.

Lb is a complete **** show if our top LB recruit under Mario is now getting hype from the owner of this site as a ******* potential WR, when we have also seen precisely ZERO development out of our young talented LBs for 1.5 seasons now…

This is insane.

Okay time to just accept we need 2 portal LBs who will start for us next yr. If we only get 1, we will have no depth and Marcelin will start.

If AJ Randle isn’t it at LB try him at Edge (if he has long arms), SS, or TE first. Pretty simple. ******* WR? Lmao. I guess if you want literally nothing else except for a pure sacrificial deep route runner

This thread wouldn't have been started if there weren't major questions about his potential at LB. Not good if we're already looking at other positions. Sounds like he's a great athlete but lacks abcxyz to play LB.

Yeah I don’t love the tea leaves with this one.
Randle was here for the FSU game and threw up the U in his game last week.

I just think he should be classified more as an ATH than a LB. He shows flashes on defense, but the appeal is the size, athleticism and character. His pure physical traits put him in elite company.

Most people in this thread are saying we have a bigger need at linebacker, and I agree. But it's more interesting (and important) to figure out where he can actually be the best player.

And when have we ever developed a Lb that is a pure athlete and has to grow in the other try Lb areas? Yeah… Idk how anyone can view this thread with anything but pessimism tbh

Lack of athleticism has been a concern at LB. With him and potentially Whiteside, it certainly won't be.

Makes sense why we are trying to add more at LBer. Not sure if WR or where but he’s got the raw tools for sure. For the sake of the team I hope it happens at LBer

WR ..no
However it does open the discussion up to where he'd thrive. I loved him as LB1 so it's a bummer we're entertaining him moving before he even gets here. His frame could hold 240/250 imo..so maybe moving him up front..dunno..
Kid's a freak tho...

I'm not a track guy, so I pose this question to the many track guys on here:

How does hurdling translate for these bigger receivers? It's striking to me that there are two Top 5 pick talents this year with almost identical physical profiles.
Hurdling helps build hip mobility, coordination, and jumping power. Also helps with controlling length of stride quickly.

Becker and Smith both played receiver that’s why they’re good receivers on top of being very athletic.

Hurdling is a good representation of an athlete but being a good athlete does not make you a good receiver.

Strong hands, hand-eye coordination, route running, and ability to change direction are better traits to have in a receiver than running fast on a track and jumping high.

Of course. But there is a reason why every coach asks for a receiver's track times.

I think Randle has coordination. He was a QB/basketball player and seems to high-point the ball in the limited clips of him playing WR. But it's a projection. I'd like to see him commit more to it and see where it goes.

For additional context, Artie Burns - widely regarded as one of the best prep hurdlers ever - ran PRs of 36.14 and 13.35 in the 300m and 110m hurdles, respectively.

Think it might be time to bring in a dedicated LB coach? Is Hearherman struggling to identify and develop? Might be more an XO, teach effort guy. We need all conference caliber linebackers badly

Why not TE which has been seen as a natural switch for other LBs and wildcat qbs? In your reverse example, they tried out a TE in Njoku at LB. Eli Stowers went from Jimbo QB at A&M to 2nd round TE at Vandy. Jimmy Graham (grew up in North Carolina) picked up TE fairly quickly. Tony Gonzalez got a tryout with the Miami Heat.

Same concept but I think his body and speed fits better at WR.

Kid is a freak athlete. But you’re posting highlights of him catching 7 yard fades from a kid who shot puts the ball like he’s throwing to 1st graders, to prove that point?
