Putin is a lot of things, but stupid isn't one of them. He's backed down before and he wouldn't start a war he knows there's zero chance he could win. His people wouldn't allow it either, they'd overthrow his *** at that point.

The polling numbers basically mirror Trumps at the same time in his term. A country split in half, is anyone surprised by this?

The claim by a lot of those people in the polls showing disapproval would swing his way of they didn't talk outside both sides of their mouths. It's been said on this board that Trump kept Putin in check, so a president that actually does check Putin should in turn get that same support? No? Nah, probably not, some love orange men.
Trump’s foreign policy was a success bc he kept Putin and Xi at bay and didn’t start any new wars. Checking Putin by directly threatening WWIII with is insane and very unpopular. Big difference in the two.

It’s also very naive to believe China wouldn’t take Russia’s side. There’s no guarantee we win that war. Our military just got done kicking out our best pilots and many SF guys for not taking the jab. We aren’t combat ready. For god’s sake we just lost a ship to a fire, in a port, bc they weren’t trained well enough to put it out. We had two ships ram each other bc the female who was supposed to be on watch, was in her bunk crying bc she got in a fight with a guy on the ship. We lost a war game to the British and were demolished by the Chinese in another. Be careful what you wish for.

LMFAO! at you thinking our military is going to lose to Russia and China because we kicked out some jab dodgers. This is some real anti military schit. What war game did we lose against the British? Are you talking about the British Royal marines, which are an elite unit vs our regular marines? LMAO!

I told my mom this last night when I met up for dinner with her last night. She had no idea that Ukraine‘s economy is energy driven and there’s a ton of energy resource. There’s obviously been conflict for a long time with crimea and other reasons but it doesn’t help that they have so many resources for energy and Putin‘s entire economy is energy driven as well.

A question was ask to many countries in conflict this question:

Who do hope to see coming over the to the hill to the rescue ?

Unanimous answer:

The Devil Dog US Marines ,the name Devil Dogs was given the the Marines by Hitlers own German military for the ferociousness and relentlessness of no fear no matter the odds of the US MARINES.

When are forced to war this is how you do it with no remorse.

Putin just openly threatened Finland and Sweden if they happen to enter the NATO with "military consequences".

If Putin attacks one of these countries, we have a war in Europe due to contract language in the EU, activating the mutual defense clause for all EU members. We are at the point where one wrongly pressed button could offset some really bad things. Including a potential involvement of both China and the USA.

I hope WW III and the end of the world doesn’t happen before we get a chance to see what Mario can do with the Canes.

Russia has basically threatened nuclear war if Finland and Sweden switch their neutral stance.
Putin is a megalomaniac. We now have sanctions on him and he already wants out.
I think we will discover that Russian fighting forces cannot compare to our armed forces.
I’m hoping that NATO and the US are funneling weapons into the country, but they should keep it hush hush.
Has France surrendered yet?????

Russian language vs Ukrainian language

If you want a further explanation on language in Ukraine, I can write it up later.

It's fairly complicated, but something worth understanding in this situation.
My GREAT GRANDPARENTS were pushed out of Minsk by Russian cossacks. The Rooskies have always been pricks.

AOC and Biden have been working feverishly to weaken our forces by pushing Transitioning and Ruth Paul into our troops .

In battle this is not what you want covering your flank in a fox hole fire fight much less hand to hand to the death fight.

My grandfather was in a fox hole filled with mud and blood in a fight for his troops life at the age of 15 with Audie Murphy regiment.

15 years old inn full combat

If and when Ukraine falls to Russian control here is another point to keep in mind for the future.

Only a 60 mile strip of land separates Belarus from the Russian enclave in Poland. If Russian forces were to take that and avoid triggering and all out conflict, this would completely deny former Soviet republics Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia land access to the rest of NATO and the European Union, leaving them isolated and surrounded by Russian aligned territories.

I disagree.

I think it’s being used as an additional environmental war threat. A containment was built to prevent further leakage despite the disaster it already caused.

By capturing it they can now threaten to continue more damage by threatening to remove containment, etc.
It could theoretically be used as a doomsday device by either side. That said the deliberate destruction of the Chernobyl sarcophagus would be an act of war, given the massive radioactive contamination that would ultimately spread through Europe.

Germany offered 5000 helmets, haha. Even worse, they want them to come pick them up.

That's basically the theme.

No matter what maps you see, in all but Western Ukraine, Russian is the dominant language of daily life, sports, music (especially). It has been due to imperial pursuits since the early 1700s. In the far west of Ukraine, the Ukrainian language truly does dominate.

During the Soviet era, the dominance of Russian became even more pronounced. People may indicate that Ukrainian is their "mother tongue," but that says little about what they actually use.

In many parts of the country (particularly the middle), there is a continuum of Surzhyk, which, based on academic studies, is (mostly) a Russian grammatical structure that is punctuated by Ukrainian rhythms.

One of my college roommates was from Dnipro. He speaks Russian exclusively. His whole family considers themselves 100% Ukrainian, whose language is 100% Russian, and 100% against Russian invasion.

I had a coworker who was originally from Kiev. She learned Ukrainian in school (much more widespread teaching post-Soviet era), but used Russian with family and in daily life. Ditto considered herself 100% Ukrainian.

In Donbas, Crimea (majority ethnic Russian), and Odessa, there actually are a considerable number of people who are ethnic Russians, and many people in Donestsk, Lugansk, Kharkov couldn't put a paragraph of Ukrainian together.

In regions like Odessa that historically had people of many ethnicities, Russian became the lingua franca.

Russian language does not mean Ukraine is Russia. Russia needs to stay out of Ukraine. I don't see any benefit to what is going on right now. I believe Putin has made a terrible mistake.
