This reminds me of Coker in 2006

I think they speak clearly. The only two teams in the top 10 that haven’t won a natty are Miami and Georgia.

That’s not a surprise when you look at Miami’s coaches. And we are learning a lot about Georgia’s coach during that time period.
Nice narrative but not helpful. Few of those Um nfl guys played for richt at UM, and we have sucked for far longer than Richt has been at UM. So the problem is obviously not just Richt. Yes, he sucks. But we’ve been having this discussion for almost 20 years now. Wash, rinse, repeat.

The nfl talent lists are very misleading.

You can win in cfb without nfl talent everywhere. So why do we keep talking about it, when we know the problem is coaching, culture, S&c, and depth?

What we have lacked for a long time, that the nfl lists hide, is LOS strength, and overall depth. Our roster has been more or less a train wreck since Coker’s ‘04 class filled it with holes. We haven’t even played with a full squad in a decade. Richt the ceo hasn’t managed to fill our roster, without sanctions to blame.

And let’s not kid ourselves. Our brand is at the bottom of the barrel, and so fla is more picked over than ever. Talking about nfl talent misses the point. Not pointing fingers, just stating the obvious.

We need an admin that wants to win and provides the resources, a Hc who cares about winning and recruiting, a s&c program that is top tier, and a full roster, and time. NFL talent is an outcome, not an input. Too many around UM think the talent will get us where we want to be. Obviously not.
You cannot win on the highest level without NFL talent. All of the national title contenders have NFL talent all over their rosters.

The trenches and depth certainly need to be built, but you absolutely need NFL talent to compete for national championships.

We are getting to the point that any OC worth a **** will not want to come aboard because the cupboard might be bare with little to no depth behind the starter. I say “might” because we still have zero clue if JW can be the guy. Hypothetically, the competent OC is hired but because the current talent is so abysmal, CMR is fired anyway at the end of next season and all the assistants are at risk. I don’t know how many season ticket holders will not renew, but I’ll bet a lot of money that revenue will be way down next year. Cut your losses, buy out CMR’s contract, and get Dino Babers down here now. He won 9 games at Syracuse, he’s a great motivator, and his offense looked a helluva better than what we have here. And a move from Syracuse should not be a tough sell. Do it this week.

Yes, we’ve hired a series of bums. None of them are currently employed as head coaches. That’s across different ADs, different school presidents and different search committees.

We’ve picked losers, similar to Bama between 1997-2007.

If you read these boards, it’s like a bunch of 80 year olds complaining that they cannot win in the olympics wihout better yogurt and oatmeal for breakfast. We should all just quit talking about competing for championships at this point. It’s delusional. We cannot even avoid embarrassing ourselves against a mid lvel B10 team in a crap bowl game.

Here’s how it works. South Florida produces nfl talent. And we will get some of it even when we suck, because mom and local and juanita and whatever. But it’s nothing but a distraction at this point, that is peventing the admin from focusing on the real problem.

The real problem is the program is a clown show. Run it right, and we’ll be competitivd. Be competitive, and we’ll pick up a few more recruiting wins. Do that consistently, and we’ll be back to having high level talent. But lack of talent does not explain why Wisconsin wiped our *** all over the field.

When we have a real staff and program, we’ll get more nfl talent. Until we do, we should quit talking about nfl talent, because it’s irrelevant to our problems.

I legit think the program can’t really compete at a national level anymore. It was built on innovation and hungry young overlooked recruits. There are no more overlooked recruits in this day and age, and the area gets picked clean of top prospects by bag schools.

We can either continue to pretend to be an elite program by overpaying for name HCs who are actually trash. Or we can probably do the smart thing and quit pretending.

Just take your L on the half-hearted attempt at being a national program, and try to transition into being a developmental type of program. Find a cheap innovative young HC and work that angle. As the 2019 recruiting class is proving, we can’t compete with the bag schools in our current model.

Need to find an innovator and quit pretending. Throwing $5M at another HC and then having a support staff one-third the size of elite programs and full of local bums with no experience or juice is a proven fail here.

Quit pretending and just hire some innovative OC on the relative cheap and see what he can do.

Our hiring decisions have been bad. We agree. The reasons why we made those choices, and the focus, priorities and resources of the institution, those are unique to us and not, imo, similar to Alabama pre Saban.

My UGA buddy just spent a half hour asking me TF was that?!

He sees a Vangordner? reunion, as he's on the market and that he was the OC Rekt had in the 2 of 15 years of relevance Rekt had at UGA.

I agree w DMoney; settle in, Rekt's seat ain't even butt temp yet. He gets at least 2 more years, regardless of lack of changes or the piddlers he makes like the DC co-hires.

UGA bud warned me of the 9-3 bounce back for 19 that Rekt was famous for at UGA.

Gonna take some patience on this one.

UGA bud and I agree - F-it Hire Ed Reed and give him the freedom to hire some innovators at position coaches. We need to get out of the mid-major corporate mentality on running this program.
Van gorder a d coordinater

Richt gets paid a lot and was given a lot of money for his staff. Coker got paid a lot, too.

If he was given a lot for staff then how the **** do end up hiring high school coaches and bartenders?

If Richt were a godly man of his word he would resign if playcalling abilities were taken from him. That's the only reason he is here and was going to walk away until we gave him the opportunity to do so. But he's a hypocrite.
I dont think playcalling is anywhere in the bible

You can look at the NFL all pro teams and poke holes all through that. And NFL drafts. Only 30 guys go in the first round each year. And the guys who get picked there are typically spread around teams. How can you only win with first day talent?

The problem is systemic, from the presidents through these alleged search committees.

They made hires out of the appearance of giving a **** about the program.

Let me tell you about these committees. They hired a big-money consultant and ended up hiring Randy Shannon from down the hall. They fell for Al Golden's sales pitch, but when it was clear he was going off script made no attempt to get him back on.

And lastly, they just jumped at Mark Richt in name alone. Do you think they spent any time asking him how come he had a losing record against Florida? Do you think they put any thought into why he was unable to get over the hump in the SEC?

They've done all of this out of the appearance of giving a ****, but the university has to do some real soul-searching and ask themselves the hard question: Do they really give a **** about being a competitive football program?

You don't need outside counsel and search committees to make good solid foundational decisions for your football program. Committees are how things get ****ed up.

Campbell, Vernon and Bailey are all impact stud DL. We got nothing out of them. Brandon Linder is the highest paid center in NFL history. Miller and Duke are legit impact backs. It didn’t matter because we had no defenses. Njoku and Herndon are monsters and we had them at the same time.

It’s not like the mid-2000s but these are good players who would be stars at other schools.

We won ten games and immediately signed a top 8 class.

We just need to get the most out of what we have, and then we will get more.

Quite obviously, paying the head coach isn’t sufficient.

On resources - Alabama has a far greater support staff than we do. Much more talented assistants. Much more support resources other thna assistants. More money, more people, more talent. So do many other teams. I could note that resources may also include alumni and bags. It is what it is. We just got our ipf. Just got better nutrition a couple years ago. Always playing catch up.

But it’s well beyond just that. It’s culture. Since Shalala, the Admin has been running herd on our recruiting, and steering us away from rough kids. It’s obvious, and came through in interviews since the Coker era. Disagree with me if you want to, but facts are on the ground. Golden took some edgy kids and many were off the team relatively fast.

Top CFB teams anren’t like some tame poodle you can leave with the kids in the playroom. They’re backyard dogs that bite, amd need to be kept away from the kids. The stories can stay in the attic, but the ‘80s Canes were not on average quite as nice as our more recent vintages. Better football players. Tougher. Rougher.

Maybe Miami shouldn’t try to be elite anymore. There are things that matter other than football. But let’s not delude ourselves. We can be good if we take the program seriously, and build around the best local kids, and take chances on guys who would make some uncomfortable in sociology class (but won’t show up anyhow).
