This is why Cooney deserves his job....

My issue with Cooney is that he was hired to build local recruiting relationships and in the end we struck out on a greater percentage of our local targets than anyone thought possible. Even Golden had a much higher percentage of the top tricounty kids commit than Rocit did this class.

So while you can put the blame squarely on Richt’s staff for failing to close, you can’t ignore that Cooney was part of that staff. Give him another year under the new regime to prove himself and show more positive outcomes before bumping him up.
That recruiting failure was a direct result of the product on the field.

You can be the best salesman on earth but if your product sucks you gunna have a hard time closing consistently. These kids don’t live in a vacuum and Richt wasn’t putting out a desirable product. Coney is the only reason kids were even open to hearing the pitch.

He’s done a great job at his new position. I don’t believe that translates to a position coach. That’s a Richt move.
So what exactly translates to being a position coach? Do you have to be a proven HC to be worthy of the mighty title of WR’s coach? Maybe we should let talented up and coming coaches go prove it elsewhere and then watch them win recruits for other teams.

We shouldn’t have first time coaches hired at Miami, it’s stupid and unnecessary.

i don't know whether he can coach or not. but maybe he is an elite recruiter but a ****ty coach? just because he excels in recruiting, does that earn him a coaching position? those are two entirely different skill sets. we need good, technical coaching!!

Lol that’s laughable. We’ve had many work out well here as well as a few current staff members.

But a great leader is supposed to recognize talent and develop that talent. If Cooney is talented a good leader would promote and develop instead of letting him walk to become great elsewhere

It's actually very smart. You need someone in the critical WR coaches position with a proven track record.
