Regardless of that, it isn’t true that teams are not or have not been moved down for losing championship games. May or may not happen to Alabama but it happened just last year.
To be fair, I think the main discourse has been "penalized". You will not be penalized for losing your conference champ. I'm not trying to be a smart-***, but I don't think SMU or Penn State were penalized for losing. They both still got into the playoff, even though they were dropped 1 or 2 spots in the final ranking.
So this is unprecedented. If Alabama is the last man in, and they lose, the committee has said they won't penalize you. Meaning they don't drop, and they're still in. But if they do drop you like they did SMU and Penn State, then you're out, because you don't have any room to fall and stay in.
I could be wrong, but I wouldn't bet a dime that the committee would take their golden baby Alabama and move them OUT of the playoff by losing to a Top 4 team in a game they earned their way into. If they do, then what's the point of playing? Just say you have a COVID out break and have them send Ole Miss to Atlanta next year. You don't play, you stay at 10, you're in the playoff.
As I've said for 2 days, if they lose 38-10 and Simpson gets hurt, sure. But if you guys are banking on the committee kicking Alabama out of the playoff to put Miami in, well, god bless you.
