MEGA There’s Still Hope for the ACCCG/CFB Playoffs Mega Merge Thread

I have zero confidence that the committee will do the correct thing. We'll be lucky to still be 12th. So many people hate miami
Lucky to be 12th?

We did have the best win in the 6th-13th rankings. We're the only one that played a ranked team and we still had the largest margin of victory. Plus our win was on the road and in cold weather.

They could justify us passing BYU and Bama just based on that alone. And if we get to just one spot behind ND then we'll need to jump them as well.

I'm not saying I think we should be 12th, I think we should be in the top 8. I'm saying what I think the committee will do. All those things you just said are 100% true but again, soooo many people hate miami. I hope that you're right and I'm wrong

I hope Im wrong but this is the way I see the rankings tonight. This lets bama lose and still stay in and they dont have to worry about our head to head with ND bc they are few spots away. Like I said I hope Im wrong!!

1. OSU
2. Indy
3. Georgia
4. Texas tech
5. Oregon
6. Texas Am
7. Oklahoma
8. ND
9. Bama
10. Ole Miss
11. Miami
12. BYU

i dont see them dropping OM this week at least.

i do think we jump BYU this week. if not, were cooked bc if we dont jump them this week no way we jump them next week since they dont want to penalize a loss in a conference title game.

honestly, get rid of these conference title games overall.

the real test case is bama. when they lose to UGA next week, do you drop them out or keep them in as a 3 loss with one of their losses being a blow out to a bad FSU team.

Reminder to all that FSU was -400 right before the snub. Other bettors had them at -170. On this issue, Vegas doesn’t know as much as people think.
This.

Guys with computer models can use statistics from prior games to predict future outcomes. But in a situation like this, mathematical formulas can’t tell you what a group of bureaucrats will do.

Sure, there are models like CFB professor that @OrangeBowlMagic always cites. They are accurate for predicting what the committee will do for the weekly tv show.

But for the final in/out decision, with the entire media saying it should be Miami over ND because H2H has to matter, to can’t model that.

Everyone is guessing.

Everybody needs to stop with this statement that the CFP doesn’t penalize losing in conference championship games. It’s not true. Last year, Penn St dropped 1 spot and SMU dropped 2 spots. Did it take either out of the playoff? No. But they did move each team down.

I’ll keep saying, the argument that should be considered is why 5 teams from the SEC should be getting in. Bama has not played real well in November and lost to FSU badly. OU is awful on offense. Miami/ND should be in and 4 should get in from the SEC. It’s still the most teams from any conference.

You're probably right about BYU, but I think Bammer gets in even if they're blown out. Remember, they had Alabama ahead of Miami with 3 losses last year in the last playoff ranking.
BAMA getting destroyed is actually our best shot at getting in, in my opinion. Would love to see them explain a 9-3 team that has an FSU loss in their record is still one of top teams in the country worthy of a playoff spot. Even if they still put bama i suspect the backlash would force them to rethink the whole “no matter what happens in championship game” philosophy.

Thank you
Might want to say it louder for the tards in the back

Yep the system is rigged for the SEC to have as many teams as possible, they rank **** near the whole conference b4 the season starts

This is where I’m at ..the whole us ahead of ND **** is pointless it’s not happening, our best chance is BYU & BAMA the two squads ahead of us getting belt to *** this weekend and Miami getting to 10
Of course, literally every game that we needed to go a certain way went the other way. Oklahoma, alabama, virginia, etc.

But seemingly better odds of georgia and texas tech taking care of business

I'm likely crazy, but if Alabama and byu get BLOWN out this weekend, they are out.

3 losses is a line in the sand

Alabama had 3 losses last year, two to 6-6 teams, and they would have been in the playoffs if Clemson hadn't beaten SMU.

Alabama the last two years has 3 losses to .500 or below teams and we still treat them like royalty. I made this comparison in another thread but if you're comparing us against them:

Losses (FPI)
#24 SMU in OT
#29 Louisville by 3

#33 FSU by 14
#16 OU by 2

I think it's hard to argue these aren't, at the very least, equal. And I think that's being generous. Miami's average FPI ranking of the two losses is 27 with an average margin of 1.5 points. Bama's average ranking is 25 with an average margin of 8 points. I would personally argue Bama's losses are worse.

Best Wins (Top 40 FPI)
#3 Notre Dame by 3
#23 USF by 37
#33 FSU by 6
#36 UF by 19
#38 Pitt by 31

#8 UGA by 3
#14 Vandy by 16
#18 Tennessee by 17
#21 Missouri by 3
#25 LSU by 11
#26 Auburn by 7
#31 USCe by 7

Miami beat their non-Notre Dame group by 23 points on average. Alabama beat their non-UGA group by 10 points. Miami played FSU at home, just like Bama, and dominated them. Alabama got dominated.

(Above top 40 FPI)
#56 NC State by 34
#72 Va Tech by 17
#81 Stanford by 35
#101 Syracuse by 28
+1 cupcake

#60 Wisconsin by 24
+2 cupcakes

Miami should be ahead of Bama.

The only thing giving me a very small sliver of hope is that the Committee’s only possible reason now for ranking ND ahead of Miami is the "eye test." Is that really the precedent they want to set? There’s no other explanation. They’ll have to own it.

The much simpler and more logical approach is to state: after evaluating all 12 games, and considering Miami's dominant win over another common opponent last week, we must honor the head-to-head result and rank Miami ahead of ND.

I know this isn't groundbreaking. I know they likely won't do it. But ******* come on.
