MEGA There’s Still Hope for the ACCCG/CFB Playoffs Mega Merge Thread

Anecdotal and irrelevant, but every single non Miami fan I speak with has voiced the absurdity of ND being ahead of us.
I saw some idiot pundits on CBS arguing they are still better than us right now because of FPI. It was such a bad argument.

The subjectivity of the committee is completely biased.

The narrative of "Miami has 2 bad, unranked losses" has stuck since they first happened. But both SMU and Lou could both be ranked, if the committee wanted to. It's like a self fulfilling narrative.

They're both going to be top 30 teams by pretty much every metric but they're "unranked". If they were top 25 teams they'd be ranked.m and we'd have 2 ranked losses.

Yes.

Per the AP poll, SMU is #32 and Louisville is #35. Per the coaches poll, SMU is #29 and Louisville is #35.

You know which teams are nowhere near the Top 35? Florida (beat Texas). FSU (beat Alabama).

You want proof of SEC favoritism? Just look at the AP poll.

Who is the highest-ranked 1-loss team? Georgia (SEC).
Who is the highest-ranked 2-loss team? Oklahoma (SEC).
Who is the highest ranked 3-loss team? Texas (SEC).
Who is the highest-ranked 4-loss team? Missouri (SEC).

Yeah, they're holding onto being within one score of OSU and the ONLY team to do that. Meanwhile, they had super narrow wins against some putrid teams. Whatever, I'm glad they're out

The SEC in general is somewhat of a mirage. I give you the one score game club, games that finished within one score:

Ole Miss
Kentucky (5-7)
Arkansas (2-10)
LSU (7-5)
Washington St (6-6)
Georgia (11-1) L
Oklahoma (10-2)

Texas A&M
Notre Dame (10-2)
Auburn (5-7)
Arkansas (2-10)
USCe (4-8)
+ Loss to Texas (9-3) by more than one score

Alabama
Georgia (11-1)
Missouri (8-4)
USCe (4-8)
Oklahoma (10-2)
Auburn (5-7)
+ Loss to FSU (5-7) by more than one score

Oklahoma
Auburn (5-7)
Ole Miss (11-1)
Tennessee (8-4)
Alabama (10-2)
LSU (7-5)
+ Loss to Texas (9-3) by more than one score

Those are all current playoff teams and there are 10 games amongst them against .500 and below teams that are either one score games or losses. In addition to that we have Louisville, Clemson, and Miami dominating SEC teams by multiple TDs. We have Georgia playing a 1 score game with Ga Tech.

Miami
Notre Dame (10-2)
Louisville (8-4) L
SMU (8-4) L OT
FSU (5-7)

It is all smoke and mirrors from the SEC.

This would all be so much simpler if the CGs were just the two highest rated teams in each league. Using the AP it would look like (ideally you'd use the CFP so they'd have to rank on Saturday night/Sunday morning before the CGs):

Big10: OSU vs IU

SEC: UGA vs Ole Miss (TAMU may be ahead of them in the CFP rankings)

Big12: TTU vs BYU

ACC: UM vs UVA

Have a rule that the loser of the CG can't fall below the third ranked team in their league in the final ranking to avoid punishing the best teams for playing an extra game.

Conference schedules are so unbalanced that we ended up with Bama and Duke in CGs despite the fact that they aren't close to being the second best teams in their leagues.

Think this would also incentive teams to play tough non conference schedules, if the CFP actually weighed H2H matchups as they're supposed to.

Just don't think unbalanced conference schedules (even with 9 conference games) gets you close to sussing out the best teams in the conference. Some years it might, other years it won't.

the betting lines basically have us at like 12% to get in from what I’ve been seeing. It’s over. None of our good players for next year should play in any meaningless bowl game. We should just focus all our energy on the portal.

Over the last 24 hours the Vegas betting odds continue to get better for Miami getting into the CFP
