MEGA There’s Still Hope for the ACCCG/CFB Playoffs Mega Merge Thread

The G5 should be split off and have their own separate playoff. I don’t remember which thread I said it in yesterday (****, maybe I said it in this one), but it’s absolutely ridiculous that the majority of the G5 is playing for nothing every year. Most of them have zero chance of ever even getting that one G5 spot. They should be even more ****ed off than us. How is it right to have 60ish schools competing for one single spot, a spot in which no one actually expects that team to compete anyway? It’s a joke.

Regarding taking ND off the schedule, I go back and forth on this one. Our win against them is the only reason we even have ANYONE on our side arguing we deserve a shot at the CFP. Otherwise, we’d get crucified again for having a terrible schedule. Florida and FSU ****ed us by sucking. The ACC has done nothing to help its perception over the years, while the SEC spent millions on the best PR campaign in sports and got rewarded with a killer ESPN contract and media buy-in.

****, they even put in a one-loss Bama over a 13-0 FSU just a couple years ago. Yes, I know that was a four team playoff, and now we have 12, but it doesn’t matter. They will always put more SEC teams in over an ACC team if they can. It’s in the contract. The only way for us to prevent them from keeping us out is to go undefeated, but that’s just unfair and unrealistic. It was always difficult to do that, and now it’s **** near impossible. It just sucks and short of suing under antitrust laws, I’m not really sure what our options are.
Great point on G5 having their own playoff.

Maybe what they should is is have their best G5 team make it to the CFP and then the rest can have a 4 team playoff. But I doubt it happens.

I get your point on ND but if we don’t get in with the same record, we end up in the same predicament.

We destroyed them and they get a pass.

F'ing ACC Network podcast is dissing Miami over ND....stupid A-Holes. Roddy Jones and EJ Manual are about FSU/G Tech instead of ACC. Talking up Big 12 wins this week, talking up ND as a lock in CFP. Just ridiculous and so much different than SEC Network.

Guys, I haven’t seen the media rally around this program this much since the NCAA investigation debacle.

If we win out, we’ll be in. The pressure is mounting. We got major CFB reporters and analysts beating the drum for us. Just take care of business.
I get it about the media. They have a big boys but you can’t trust this committee.

Take out ND out of the conversation for now, that same media and coaches still have us ranked below Utah and Vandy.

Vandy was on a bye week. We should bypass them in the playoff rankings and in the regular rankings.

Their best win is vs Mizzou. Ours is vs ND. They beat a down LSU which equates to our Florida win. South Carolina was so overrated.

Whom has Utah beaten? A decent Cincy team? But they got stomped by TT and lost to BYU. Their out of conference was a joke.

You gotta take the committee at their word and that is the rankings. Obviously, this doesn’t matter until the last game is played.

We have one ranked, man. Lol I don't understand why this is so hard for you. Maybe you're just a blind homer? Anyways, we're going in circles so we can agree to disagree.
Name the ranked wins ND (only USC), Utah, Vandy have that are in front of us

Been called a lot of things but never lazy before

If tied teams have a common opponent i get ut
But UL has 3 losses
The tied teams would be UVA UM and SMU

Of I'm wrong I'll admit it but don't think UL would apply as you stated with a 3 way tie of smu

I have posted SPECIFICS about how a 4-way tie would work (assuming GT, UVa, Pitt, and Miami) on a separate thread. No idea how Louisville got into this.

And I posted GENERALITIES about how multi-team ties would work, on this thread, and you told me I was wrong (I was not).

Everything depends on the tied teams. How many, and "who".

Let’s see what happens tomorrow. I have a feeling we hop Vandy and maybe Utah.

Someone else mentioned UL thread not you I stand corrected

So a 3 way tie with UVA UM and SMU
Who would go and why

This **** just gave me a headache for life. Maybe goes 1 for 23 in scenarios. Highly doubtful. :11263365343-2b1651dd24-o: :monkey-serious::11263365343-2b1651dd24-o::monkey-serious:

****, I had this on a spreadsheet at home (go ahead and make fun of me!) and I'm at work right now.

In a 3-way tie, you would have to go beyond the first criterion (point a), which is "head-to-head" when everyone plays everyone. Miami not playing UVa forces us to the next requirement.

Without redoing all the work (for now), it would then move to records against COMMON OPPONENTS. This is where I pointed out that UVa is damaged by LOSING TO NC STATE, which was NOT a conference game, but WOULD count when evaluating common opponents.

Within b, with the 3 teams you mentioned (UVa, UM, and SMU), UVa did not play UM or SMU. UM only lost to SMU. SMU only beat UM. So, again, within b, you do not have EITHER a tied team which beat the other two tied teams OR a tied team which LOST to the other tied teams, thus the criterion b would not be met in a way that eliminates any team.

Moving to criterion c, in my original example, I did not have SMU in the mix. SMU did NOT play NC State, so you can't use NC State for this one. I believe that the TWO common opponents for UVa, SMU, and UM would be Stanford and Louisville. UVa and SMU each won both of those games, while Miami lost to Louisville. So on criterion c, Miami would be ELIMINATED.

Then, there would be a 2-team tie between UVa and SMU which would be broken by the "2 team tie" rules.

I agree that we have ourselves to blame, but the part that frustrates me is all these other teams are allowed to have bad losses but we’re expected to be basically perfect throughout the season. Going into this past weekend Texas had a loss to Florida but people still had them going to the playoff. Bama lost to the Noles but all is forgiven. It just seems like a double standard to me.
Please review my great 8 post
It’s always been that way

We're being punished for beating them and their being rewarded for losing two close games with us and A&M lol. For some reason we don't get the same benefit of the doubt, SMU & L'Ville would def hang with ND or even split.
Probably not they don’t lose games to bad teams

I hate the argument of “beat Louisville and SMU and we wouldn’t have to worry about it.” Well… we lost to Louisville when the QB had a terrible night by 3 pts (and Louisville isn’t bad) & we lost to SMU and the refs.

Almost everyone has lost but their losses don’t count? Miami’s body of work is just as good or better than all teams with two losses.
