The reason why this program will always have title potential

I keep saying it. UM is the same sleeping giant that USC was before they lucked into hiring Carroll. UM has been considered dead before by bozo pundits.

With a competent HC UM will rise again like a Phoenix. This is exactly why the real hardcore UM fans are so on edge. We know what this program can do with the right HC leading us.

The best teams of all time have tended to have 3 things going for them:

1) Talent
2) Luck
3) Football smarts

We've got and always will have 1). It's just a matter of what level of talent we have on any given team, and how that talent develops.

2) is a bigger deal than people give credit for. There have been really good teams who have had injuries or a bad bounce go against them that has ruined a season that probably should have ended in a title. See: Miami in the Fiasco Bowl against tOSU*, or even PSU...and the Sugar Bowl against Bama (LT36's fumble).

3) is something I don't know that a Miami team has had in a good long while. I haven't seen a lot of our guys make plays just because they knew where to be on the field at just the right time, and what to do when they got there. If you read that big Fox Sports article about the 2001 team, then you'll recall Matt Walter's INT against BC being a result of a chain of football smart decisions--the D had enough football smarts to get into the correct front/coverage combo (the default Shannon had them go to), even though they didn't get the defensive call from the sidelines. Some football smarts are instinctual (Reed ripping the ball from Walters to make the game-winning return for TD), some are born out of preparation (Rumph studying film, and breaking on a route he knew was coming to pop the ball off so Walters could pick it). Either way--smart plays by different guys that when put together turned into big plays.

To quote Romberg about that play: "They say luck is when opportunity meets preparation, you kind of create your own luck. And you do. If we weren't a hustle, bad-*** football team, Matt Walters wouldn't have been five yards down field making that play."

I can't say that we've had a play like that in the past few years, where a guy just made the right play not because a coach put them in the right call, or because it just fell into their lap...but because they had prepared for it, were ready for it, saw their chance, and made a big play happen when it all came together.

We get more of 1), more of 2), and somehow find a way to get guys that have a knack more often than not for 3)...we'll have title potential.

That, and of course, a better coaching staff.

D by the way u been porsting it seems like u r done with AG......r u?

I'm not judging until after the season. I have doubts based on past performance. But I also see a steadily increasing win total and a rising talent level. If he is not the guy, the results will plateau or regress like they did with Coker and Shannon.

This week's game is enormous.

Boom

Now if we could only coach up all that talent.

Or, even sign it.

There is enough talent on this team to compete for the ACC title.

you are crazy if u honestly thick that. We might have maybe 3 - 4 kids including punter who could start at out main rival, FSU. We have a long ways t go before the talent rises to compete for ACC title.

No, we have more then enough talent to pull a upset against FSU.

Just be ready for corchin n even if we win we will lose to some bumb team, hopefully they get Davis back in here.

That's why the moment there's good coaching it's not just that they win championships it's not even close

Could you imagine a Carroll or Saban or even Meyer at Miami. ****, now I'm ****ed, I hate this inept staff.

Or Malzahn.

Think about this: UM won two straight NCs with Larry Coker at the helm. Dennis Erickson won 2 NCs. What was his record everywhere else he was? Butch Davis, a veritable buffoon at times on the sidelines, was on the verge of an unprecedented run because of where UM is located.

It's coaching man, has been for a couple years.

A good coach realizes we have talent more suited to a 4-3 rather than a 3-4. We also would have a scheme that has DB's covering WR's, not LBs.

We have a lot of untapped talent on the squad because they haven't been properly coached up or used correctly.

Miami has the most talent in the coastal and I'm sure we'll do shlt with it.

If you can't win with the quality of player at your disposal down here you're an asshoIe.
