The Ole Miss Thread

I’ll do a deep dive tomorrow on the Ole Miss defense, but unless Chambliss just plays like an NFL MVP in this game, if we lose, it’s on Dawson and the offense. Their defense is 45th in FEI. Significantly worse than Pitt, SMU, Louisville, even USF and Florida and honestly more on par with FSU and Stanford. This is really like the 8th or 9th best defense we’ve faced this year. If we don’t have a ton of success and score a lot of points in this game, we don’t deserve to win a natty. There is no reason to not go kick their *** up and down the field when we have the football. 30+ or bust, for sure.
Agreed i was gonna say its so much talk about our defense vs their offense but our offense is really the key here

@flips when you get a chance check this out.. About 40 minutes in they get into all 22 look from an actual coach who obviously looking at us from ole miss lense.. Our D line is beastly but feel like they will pick apart that spot drop cover 3..
Only thing i hate about heatherman so far is the spot dropping stuff, dline is covering it up tho

I HAAAAAAAAAATE it also but its been working so its like what can you say lol.. In cfb you might see 2 legit QBs in season, so you can get away with it and with our Dline, they can cover it up majority of time. I also see how Indiana plays on back end and I know hetherman wants to keep it simple so guys play fast but hope with base installed that we can evolve in defense in second season and teach more..

Also I wonder who is teaching the corners, most of our big plays given up seem to be bust on them, ND TE wide open, SMU TD wide open, TAMU WR downfield wide open, JJ big play in OSU game and a few missed by Saiyan, etc. The corners bust need to be eliminated, I know south florida DBs are notorious for only playing man and issue wit zone but when they play else where they get it done, we need to figure it out.

but what do we know lol

ill be yeling at the tv if we don't

I jus hate these backyard type offenses
Its a college offense designed to score points make explosive plays and confuse defenses. You prefer the ground and pound chain moving unexplosive short yac based passing game with no vertical passing?

People in the media tend to forget that Beck has had some 300 yard games, and severeal that pushed 300. I think this game will come down to him actually hitting passes downfield and then us gashing them with the run game. We might be able to score close to every time we have the ball. Ole Miss will get their points, but we should be able to score darn near every time we have it. Think VT. Yes, we gave up yards, and some points, but we scored almost every time we had it. We can do that against Ole Miss, and let out D pin their ears back.

If we go out there thinking we are going to win by scoring 17 points, we'll lose by 10 points. We need to score points this game. I'm not saying abandon the run game, but I am saying Ole Miss will have a problem covering our guys, and Beck can make the throws.

I think we will have to, I think they are going to try to make us throw it. What'll be frustrating is if we spend 2 quarters running into the teeth of a loaded box, and we find ourselves down 17-3 going into the 3rd.

If we score 3 points in the first half against this **** defense, I'm leaving the stadium and heading to the airport. Barring something catastrophic like a massive injury or the craziest bounces of life resulting in multiple turnovers, that shouldn't even be in the range of outcomes. Their defense stinks. I've had plenty of gripes about our offense this season, but even in my wildest dreams would I imagine scoring 3 points in a half against this collection of losers.

I'm ok with Mario ball as long as we score TDs. We can't take 6+ min drives and then score FGs and go up only 6-0 or something after 2 drives. Could easily turn into the SMU game where we felt like we were dominating on the field but just couldn't pull away.

Dawson needs to come up with a plan to go up 14-0 as quickly as possible and then let our defense and run game take over..I don't like the idea of playing conservative slow football from the beginning to keep their offense off the field unless it means we're scoring TDs as well.

Priority 1: score TDs
Priority 2: keep Ole Miss offense off the field

If we can do both at the same time, then great. But if we need to run some tempo and aggressive play calls to surprise Ole Miss and score quickly, then we need to take that risk. FSU was able to take our run game away and we put the ball in Beck's hands and he won it.

Our offense has done enough to win but hasn't been explosive enough in the playoffs. We need to turn it up a little not just for Ole Miss but for Indiana/Oregon as well.
