I will say that if we ended up with:
DL Kuligowski
LB/DC Olivadotti
DB Raymond
That would probably be the strongest defensive coaching staff in the country.
407, Who is this solid DB coach? Is Raymond confirmed?
Obviously since he hasn't been named..Our next DC is still working.. Question / Poll. .is he coaching in the College or NFL ranks?
Congrads on your son's awards. Still can't wait to see him run through the Smoke. Who ever it is I want to things: 4-3 and aggression. Do not want a 3-4 at all. Too much need and temptation to turn from speed to bulk. You boy is made to be a Hurricane MLB in a classic 4-3 Cane defense.
As hard as DT for a 4-3 are to find, NTs for 3-4 are even harder. Then you have to fatten up what should be fast 4-3 DTs into fat slow 3-4 DTs and have your DEs dropping into coverage instead of meeting at the QB.

The NT in Arandas defense doesn't have to be more than 300 LBs. Aka a standard DT size. You people need to learn more and porst less.
I would love Leavitt!!!!
3-4 or 4-3 is not the issue at all and people need to understand that.
What is significantly more important is the gap philosophy:
1 gap or 2 gap for the DL?
Spill or contain?
The irony is you have people on here dying for Leavitt bc he runs a 4-3.
But Leavitt's system requires more size and power. It is a "boxing the ball back" system, where the idea is to use power to force the ball inside. The Sam LB in his system needs to be a big strong dude well over 240 lbs. The 4-3 Leavitt runs is the exact version of the 4-3 that Dono uses when we ran single gap fronts.
Here's another example: the 2012-2014 Denver Broncos were a mediocre defense. They played Jack Del Rio's 2-gap 4-3. Essentially, the DTs were asked to be big powerful space eaters, responsible for 2 gaps. That Temple guy "Potroast" excelled in that system b/c it is a read and react philosophy from the interior DL.
Needless to say, that defense was completely average and downright bad at generating QB pressure.
Fast forward today, and Wade Phillips runs a 3-4 defense. But his defense is single gap, and so they dumped "Potroast", and the DL are now charged with getting up field off the snap. They are quick, fast, and they slant and stunt all over the place. B/C of their alignment, they are able to send 5 on every play if needed, no problem. Denver now boasts the top defense in the league.
So you went from a 4-3 2-gap defense that was mediocre, to a 3-4 single gap defense that is elite. Not b/c you changed a goddam alignment, but b/c you changed the defensive philosophy.

Boom. Add in some coverage philosophies, and this is all you need to know about what we're hoping to see from a Miami defense.

If I'm going to the NFL for a DC I find a guy who has worked under Wade Phillips for awhile and can install Wade's system here. Wade's defenses are always nasty, fast, disrespectful and disruptive.
I don't think that guy gets enough love as the absolute defensive genius he is because he's old, low key and has failed as a HC. His defenses are absolutely tailor made for the speed and downhill athletes we have access to.

You're spot on with this one. Phillips absolutely doesn't get the respect he deserves because he doesn't have a Buddy Ryan type of saltiness to offset his physical demeanor. The dude has looked like a resident of a retirement village that abuses all the local senior discounts for like the last 20 years. He knows defense though.
