The future of Manny Diaz in context to Mark Richt

I gotta laugh at this notion that Manny was some terrible D.C. before he came here. It's like you all take that 1 game at Texas and apply it to his entire career. He had some above average defenses at some lower tier schools, which is one of the reasons I was excited about him being hired.

I'd be more worried about Coach Kool bolting for the NFL than Manny leaving for a HC job, IMO.

The Saints offered after the 2016 season and you know the NFL has eyes on this 'Canes defense.

Who started this coach Diaz leaving foolishness.

Probably the same people who started the now obsolete "Diaz is a bad hire" threads, who moved on to "Watch his second year
collapse" threads to "opposing ACC coaches think he is overrated" threads.

Manny should stay with the Canes and become what Mickey Andrews was at FSU and what Bud Foster is at Va Tech. Manny is a great coach and motivator as a DC. He is a perfect fit in Miami and he will get to consistently work with elite talent. Here's why he should stay:

If he gets an offer to be a HC, it would be at a lesser program where he is highly unlikely to succeed in a big way (he's probably more likely to fail because that school simply can't attract great talent). This comment has nothing to do with his ability to coach on defense. He's not going to be offered a HC job at Oklahoma or some other historically great program. It would be more likely at a Kentucky or a program that struggles perennially. So he'd likely get bounced after 2-3 years and then end up as a DC at a lesser program than Miami. He should stay at least 5-7 years with Richt at Miami and try to win at least a couple national titles. By that end of that span, he may have so much credibility as a leading coach that he can get a gig with a good/great program. I personally think staying and becoming Assistant Head Coach if Coach Kul were to leave (or maybe even have two AHCs) or Head Coach in Waiting of Miami makes a lot more sense. Mickey Andrews knew he had a great situation at FSU and he stayed long term & ended up winning national titles, working for a legendary coach, coaching elite Florida talent, consistently making a lot of money year in & year out and having stability in his life for himself & his loved ones. If Diaz were to leave what is the perfect fit for him at Miami, he may make great money for a few years but his future beyond that would likely be much worse and less stable than what he has now. He's perfect for Miami and Miami is perfect for him. He also has a lot of family in South Florida.

We could maybe think he is a Bud Foster type of guy. I talked to Coach Foster at Vag tech's football clinic 7 years ago (our head coach was a vag tech grad) and asked him why he hasn't left to be a head coach. His reply was very simple, I have a great boss and love what I do right now. He told me he had entertained some jobs, but was too happy at tech. So, maybe Coach Diaz will stay at UM until Coach Richt decides to hang it up. You just never know with these guys. I mean, I'm sure Coach Kool has had coordinator offers, yet here he is at the U building the best DL in college football. Besides, there were some "defensive experts" on here when he was hired saying he shouldn't have gotten the job.
Agreed. Bud is a drunk that loves the VTech coeds, which i respect.

So whatever keeps someone there you never know.

Manny clearly loves Miami and loves coaching defense. I could obviously be way wrong but i don’t think he’s going anywhere either.

Kool turned down several nfl jobs to stay with Miami

If Mullen were to leave from Mississippi State have to imagine they would try and target Diaz. Hope Diaz is like bud foster or Brent venables in terms of being loyal to the school for a number of years
