Manny should stay with the Canes and become what Mickey Andrews was at FSU and what Bud Foster is at Va Tech. Manny is a great coach and motivator as a DC. He is a perfect fit in Miami and he will get to consistently work with elite talent. Here's why he should stay:
If he gets an offer to be a HC, it would be at a lesser program where he is highly unlikely to succeed in a big way (he's probably more likely to fail because that school simply can't attract great talent). This comment has nothing to do with his ability to coach on defense. He's not going to be offered a HC job at Oklahoma or some other historically great program. It would be more likely at a Kentucky or a program that struggles perennially. So he'd likely get bounced after 2-3 years and then end up as a DC at a lesser program than Miami. He should stay at least 5-7 years with Richt at Miami and try to win at least a couple national titles. By that end of that span, he may have so much credibility as a leading coach that he can get a gig with a good/great program. I personally think staying and becoming Assistant Head Coach if Coach Kul were to leave (or maybe even have two AHCs) or Head Coach in Waiting of Miami makes a lot more sense. Mickey Andrews knew he had a great situation at FSU and he stayed long term & ended up winning national titles, working for a legendary coach, coaching elite Florida talent, consistently making a lot of money year in & year out and having stability in his life for himself & his loved ones. If Diaz were to leave what is the perfect fit for him at Miami, he may make great money for a few years but his future beyond that would likely be much worse and less stable than what he has now. He's perfect for Miami and Miami is perfect for him. He also has a lot of family in South Florida.
