I'd imagine that at least 2 safeties lied to us.
Chasing money , I don’t see the concern if we move people to play safety . We have to many good cbs now not to find a place get our best players to be on the field . At least one needs to move to safety

So you didn’t answer my question, not that I thought you would because it’d interrupt the nonsense moping.

Which programs pulled their WR1 out of the spring portal? I’ll do one better. Which programs pulled their WR1 out of either portal? Any playoff contenders? Texas? Ohio State? Clemson? Alabama?

Who was the best WR in the whole portal? Singleton? Branch? Concepcion? Yeah, would’ve been nice to get one of them, but it’s not like there are dozens of kids who are going to step onto good rosters and be the best receivers on the team coming from the portal. Develop your kids. We had the #1 offense in America last year with a 5’10 who isn’t gonna be drafted as our WR1. We’ll be ok. Back away from the ledge.
Singleton was the ONLY elite guy who moved around. Our guys are unproven. Our QB has NFL tools, but he just started throwing lightly. Folks is skeptical man lol. I think the BYU kid is decent in this offense. Has some juice. But he’s not elite either. Teams around the country did a better job at retaining top talent. We lost say, who had like 200 more yards of production with us over an injured Daniels at LSU. Ngl tho, im skeptical

For all the whining on here about needing to replace our outgoing WRs. Well the NFL just told us it won’t be hard.

Maybe a good qb in Dawson system is all we need.
We are gonna miss leadership for sure when it comes to X and Cam. That’s actually my biggest concern

But same time yeah we’ve got some guys on the team that on paper should be upgrades

3rd down is where teams make their money, and sure as **** is where we made ours. Between Cam and X, they were beyond description on 3rd down. Obviously we’ll regress, we had literally one of the best 3rd down offenses of the last decade. But that’s where I’m holding my breath. On 3rd and 6 last year, I was already thinking about the first down call. This year, it’s Beck and who giving us that confidence?

But again, this is a question that has nothing to do with the portal, really. We have to replace a lot of production. It’s literally been the name of the game in college football for its entire history. Yeah, the portal can accelerate that now. But we have a room full of four-stars. One/some of them need to become that go-to player. Nobody in the portal is some ready made superstar.

Your stat threads every week looked more like NCAA 2025 stuff

3rd downs and red zone has been our nemesis for decades it felt like and we were ******* dominant

That’s without even discussing Damien Martinez our OL and converting probably 100% of 3rd and shorts on the entire season

All I know is right now I’m still expecting a playoff run for this team

A lot of teams are taking steps back or have huge question marks especially at the QB spot

This is also the best I’ve felt about our supporting coaching staff as well. I think Dawson and Heatherman are legit

I’ll stop before I get way ahead of myself here…

We are 25/1 to win the natty. 10th best odds in the country. Clearly someone else believes in the roster, Dawson, and Heatherman too.

I’ll take time over the summer to fully digest and analyze the roster, but at this time last year, I was super excited about the team and completely ******* petrified about the DBs. We had very little experience or talent.

I don’t see that glaring hole right now. Maybe a room will have a whole bunch of highly regarded kids bust, and it’ll be the 2024 DBs all over again. We don’t know. It’s not like we have 22 proven all-conference starters. But nobody does. Do I wish we could add one really legit WR and a really legit Safety and a DT I know can eat up 25-30 snaps a game? Of course. But I don’t look at any of those rooms and **** my pants like I did at DB last year. Maybe they prove us wrong and we sit here next year and say “Holy ****, can you believe how bad those receivers were? Jacolby George, I miss and love you!!!” But I don’t see it right now. We’ll Miss plenty of kids, but we have talented bodies everywhere. Go win with a blue-chip laden roster.

Here is the latest on the Portal:

- Miami is in a good spot with four-star transfer WR Keelan Marion (BYU), LB Kamal Bonner (NC State) and K Bert Auburn (Texas). I'm told Bonner has the defensive staff very excited and has great reports from NC State.

- The Canes think they are right in the game with RB Marty Brown (North Dakota State). Nebraska is the competition.

- I'm told Miami has a plan at safety. I haven't been told what it is, but they are working on several things. DB AJ Haulcy (Houston) is still in the picture but there are other things going on.

- DB Greg Smith (Florida) is another option at safety but is separate from the plan referenced above.

- Miami is continuing to look for a depth piece at DT.

- The Canes have interest in USF nickel Brent Austin. He made 48 tackles and had 2 picks last year.

- WR Tony Johnson (Cincinatti) is another name to watch as a depth piece who has played.

- While some names in the Portal are waiting for paperwork to clear, I can confirm Miami has retained its current roster.

@DMoney Thanks for the update. Bonner is by far my favorite of these names. I like Marion as well.

7-8 guys at WR with only 3 recording any stats last year is rough

And honestly it’s actually only 1 person (Daniels)

Didn’t expect WR1 from the spring after seeing it play out but we needed to do something to help this group out

It could work out fine but man that’s a tough ask
None of our graduating WRs were drafted.

X is a tough replacement but the rest of the crew (Horton, George, Brown) shouldn't be a high hurdle especially when Horton/George/X all ******* choked the playoffs away at Syracuse.

Think Carr coming back and Marrion choosing us AT LEAST makes it so we no longer have a desperate need at WR. At least we got 9 guys, and have 6 guys we are probably okay with seeing real snaps.
