That was Miami style defense.

It's safe to say some of our meaner posters have been too hard on Al. He clearly knows what he's doing and this was not dumb luck by any means.

McCord is still covering Slot WR's.

This enraged me

He is listed as and plays LB. If you have a problem with him playing LB as opposed to be a 4-3 end I get it. But our two favorite coaches aren't the only ones on earth who ask LB's to cover slot receivers in zone from time to time.

yea cuz that strategy has been working out great! couple of fat dudes playing pattycake while our speed rushers showing off their new and improved backpedal

The second half was also only 10min quarters.. 3rd down conversions were horrible. McCord still covering slots wr. I did like the rotation of backs though

Lulz at this thread, the OP, and anyone else excited over this game.

That was a MEAC team in the FCS.

Fuggin moronic prisoners of the moment. Wake up.

Remember when we beat Florida and our defense was getting after the qb....remember how we all thought this was it we're back....

The guys on the defensive front seven looked stronger and in better shape than last season. That's typical in early season college football, and particularly in our case. Recently it has meant nothing. Pro players who change their bodies in one offseason generally can sustain it while college kids too often regress to what they were.

Michael Wyche predictably was the one comical exception. He finally waddled out there with 6:35 remaining. In normal games he won't see the field. Wyche now has rolls of fat on each side of his belt line, front and prominently the back. It is hilarious.

I realize the guys with inside connections to the program have to report something during the dull months of the offseason. I appreciate the effort. Frequently it is rubbish. Common sense annihilates the rubbish. I remember when it was asserted here a few months ago that the Canes were counting on a rejuvenated Michael Wyche. I posted that the Dolphins were banking on newly acquired Ndamukong Suh and the Canes were supposedly counting on an improved Micheal Wyche. That's not exactly a coin flip. I knew how to handicap that one. It reminded me of Jermaine Johnson touted during one spring practice. Common sense dominated that one also.

It's nice to have a returning secondary. Those guys were in sync tonight. I thought Deon Bush looked more agile than in several years.

No one should be excited over this game, and it was shortened by 10 minutes, and it was an FCS school.

But anytime you hold any team of any caliber under 80 yards of offense, you played well. Our offense worries me more, to be honest. Especially Kaaya.

Not worried about Kayaa. He'll be fine.

the DTs were in on a bunch of tackles.

that alone is a big improvement

This and this alone was huge IMO.....grace and kirby had great looks and quietly had solid games the safeties were there to make playes.......Yes the Dline played well

We ran literally only 6 different passing plays the whole game, i hate that we do that open it up who cares what the other teams will see, all the other schools dont care and just play

As for the defense yea we played bethune, but as to how we played a scheme wise it is different last year yea we still have the froggers out there but they stunted and attacked the line, we blitzed a ton and we were in man the majority of the game, we didnt do that last year against the crap teams, the plays were mccord were covering a slot guy he blitzed everytime the LB would fill his spot in coverage, mccord looks way better this year shape wise, he gained major weight last year but he looked like he added a few that he didnt need, i see him looking like his old self from 2013, the only question is are we going to stick with it the whole year?

Bethune hadn't been shutout in 10 years , they beat fiu last year and I think they won 9 or 10 games point is holding a team under 80 yards is ******* hard , I believe last time we played Bethune we gave up 17 or 21 points

You can't brag too much about this game. Bragging about what you accomplished in this game is like bragging after fighting the punk in school. You were supposed to kick his ***. If you didn't you were going to get laughed at. You win on the scoreboard on this game but that's it. There's nothing else to really hang your hat on because you were supposed to thrash them. Having said that, I am worried about our offense. We didn't establish the run very well, specially before the rain delay and there were no big plays.
