Thank you Butch Davis

Didnt Butch Davis tell assistants and recruits that he will stay at Miami, only to jump the ship and go to the Cleveland Browns because *checks notes* 1.4 million dollars in 2000 wasnt good enough for him? Didnt he say he wasnt interested in joining the Cleveland Browns after beating Florida?

And could you give some examples for the feminists and SJW thing... cause SJWs didnt prevent Miami and Florida to fight with each other a day before a bowl game.
That's a crock of sh*t.....Lol at you knowing what went on....I do...because a family member went to Cleveland with him....Stop repeating falsehoods......You know absolutely nothing in regards to his negotiations.....

Whats a crock of ****? The amount of money that was offered to him? That recruits like Buck Ortega said that Butch Davis told him that he was going to stay at Miami? Or how he said that he wasnt interested in Cleveland after the Florida game?

Heres an article by SI, quoting Bryant McKinnie: https://vault.si.com/vault/2001/02/...d-bolted-for-a-big-money-deal-with-the-browns

It mentions a five year, 8.5 million dollar deal that was negotiated between the university and Davis, who were upset that it wasnt a six-year-deal and the fact that it had a 2.5 million buyout. It mentions McKinnie saying:

"In his absence the players met alone, many of them rising in anger at Davis. "People were real mad," said McKinnie. "Especially the
young guys who have three, four years left. He told us he would be here.""

This article quotes Buck Ortega, saying what Davis told him:

"I took this job to be my last one. I'm going to stay until I retire." (http://www.espn.com/columns/kreidler_mark/1051251.html). It also mentions the amount of money Davis would have made at Miami and the fact that he left Miami nine days before players could sign their letters of intent.

The LA Times quotes the then-owner of the Cleveland Browns as saying: "There is no Butch Davis". (https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2001-jan-30-sp-18884-story.html)

If you know Butch personally, it would be great knowing from you what actually happened, because when I look at what has been said and what apparently happened, it´s clear that Davis said one thing to people and did something entirely different in secret (based on research). Would be great to hear your perspective, instead of dismissing stuff as "crock of ****" without presenting anything to the contrary. Like, I want to know what actually happened, because I know, as well as you do, that national media can be very deceiving at any point.

I'm sure some kids were ****ed....but it was a business decision...Ask ANY assistant coach at UM what they think of Butch...ANY....All of them Loved him..and still do...Ask 95% of his players (Butch never saw eye to eye with Mckinnie or Portis)...or better yet...ask @Poopscoop who actually played for him what's his take...UMs administration didn't do **** for him during his tenure...Butch also tried in vain to get more $$$ for his assistant coaches (well deserved I might add)....I would tell you to Ask Sarge...Pagano...Kehoe...Curtis Johnson etc....their thoughts on Butch...but I won't bother....Not only did he put together the GOAT team....but his staff was as well....There wasn't a HS Coach in Dade & Broward who didn't think the world of him.....Lol at 1.4 million over 8yrs.....He deserved alot more than that for the Massive pile of Sh*t that was put on his Lap in 95...and the Garbage *** BOT who wouldn't give him the time of day for 6yrs

If @Poopscoop can add his perspective in here, that would be great. And the whole "more money for assistants"-thing is absolutely plausible. Thanks for responding with that information.

Believe it or not, these young men can see through a lot of BS. If they feel like a coach is not genuine, they can smell it. I think Manny has done a good job of assembling a great recruiting staff. Prior to these new guys being here, the recruiting staff was embarrassing. (at least on defense) These new guys have "it". They have that energy.

Miami also hasn't done a good job of creating relationships OUTSIDE of high schools. There are a lot of local trainers and even high school football media guys who routinely talk to coaches around the country. The Crib Media gets phone calls from Brent Venables, Ohio State, etc...asking him about certain kids. Same thing with the "Sack Sensei", a local pass rush trainer that works with all of the top DL prospects down here. He gets phone calls from everybody as well.
You know who these guys never hear from? Miami. Even when THEY reach out to Miami, they're often left on read. That's no bueno. When Nik Bonitto was coming out of high school The Sack Sensei was trying to put Miami on, like yo this kid can play, and it fell on deaf ears.

There's no reason that coaches from OOS should have any information advantage over our local coaches here. Our coaches should already be sleeping in the pot while OOS are trying to eat.

Fortunately I don't think this will be a problem going forward.

Also an FYI, DVD deserves a lot of props. He's actually SAVED some relationships we've had with recruits.
Excellent and informative post... much appreciated.

Butch told the BOT straight to their faces he was staying, same with his players.

He lied to everyone until the moment he left. Your point is correct, the rest is revisionist simp history.

@Hogan ....Spurrier was making 1.7 million...with incentives to 2 million even while Butch whipped his ***....UF turns around and gives no nothing Zook 1.7 million to replace Spurrier....And I wish people would stop with the "He left UM high & dry" narrative....So did Howard and JJ...

I read that Stoops made around the same amount of money Davis would have made, at Oklahoma as a National Championship winning coach. I think Davis would have been well paid at that time for college football head coaches, but there were obvious things that he wasnt happy with.

In 14+ years I never heard a single kid mention anything about facilities. All of the major universities have nice facilities. Some a little bit nicer than others, but it's never been a deciding factor. Definitely an overblown factor.

Biggest factors have been, and will always be, a winning culture and relationship with coaches. Sometimes I think you guys underestimate how important and impactful these recruiters are. Fans want to blame bags, facilities, nightlife, and all this other ****. At the end of the day, good recruiters pull in top athletes. (playing time is also a big factor)

Matter of fact, I would venture to say that most kids UNDER THINK the recruiting process. They get so intact with a certain recruiter or coaches, that they don't even think about how they fit into the team's scheme. I've had kids that signed with teams they shouldn't have just because they really liked the coaches. I had a LB/Safety hybrid kid who could have signed with Gary Patterson and TCU, but ignored them and signed with Nebraska because he liked their coaches better. Career suicide, he didn't fit into Nebraska's scheme at all! I had a CB who bypassed Texas A&M and Oklahoma to sign with Syracuse for similar reasons. Career suicide once again. Kid could have been a 3/4 year starter at CB in a passing conference.

Don't underestimate the impact that these college recruiters have on these kids decisions. Relationships matter. That bag **** exists but it is way overblown. Not every kid receives bag offers anyway, only the big-time kids who's families/handlers are sniffing around. And truth be told, not every kid goes with the bags anyway. There's been kids that have turned down bags to sign with the school that they really want.

RELATIONSHIPS!!!
And what we lack in facilities we make up for with palm trees, beaches and smorgasbord of beautiful Island and South American women. Being in one of the only campuses in an International City isn't to shabby either. Can't find Jai-Alai or casinos in Tuscaloosa

He agreed to a deal then refused to sign it while he negotiated with the Browns.

True or false

They (UMs administration) treated him like **** for 6yrs....That's a fact...
They'd Nit-Pick him to Death over everything...I remember them being upset over recruiting expenditures (Travel...etc...) I honestly believe to this day, that the BOT wanted him to fail....

He should have been made the Highest paid coach in America (by alot) after what he did from 95-2000...Nobody else wanted the job in 95....NOBODY....

He only Won a NC because UM got F-ed.....They barely beat a FSU team that was without their #1 WR Snoop Minnis.....Santana...Shockey and Wayne would have made a mockery of OUs DBs and LBers....and don't think OU didn't know that...

Been saying this for decades. It’s the ‘original sin’ of our program since Coker. Day late, dollar short on kids we shouldn’t be playing catch up for.
