Texas A&M thread

This ain't gospel, it's a guess, but this gives me a glimmer of hope regarding the refs:

"What we do know about typical protocols: for major postseason games (like play-offs or bowl games), officiating crews come from conferences that are not affiliated with either participating team.
  • That means the officials in this game likely will not be from the same conferences as Miami Hurricanes or Texas A&M Aggies."
If this is true (I don't know yet), this is phenomenal news! Any other conferences refs will not be pulling for the non-Miami team. If anything, they should be fetutzed that the SEC has 5 teams in.

Literally, if the refs call 1/4 of the legit holding calls against Mesi/Bain, we will almost certainly beat TAMU. To be continued...
Fetutzed? You win!

The issue we have with TAMU is that they match all our strengths, Bain/Mesidor matched by Howell, Toney matched by Concepcion etc. The issue is they have Reed who is more dynamic than Beck and Craver who is better than any WR we have apart from Toney. We maybe have slight advantages at RB and K but with the home field advantage for them this game looks to track very similar to the Clemson UT playoff game last year. I don't think we get totally blown out, but it seems unlikely we can generate real game pressure in the 2nd half.

Another elite take 😭

i watched the A&M/ND game last night. Reed is a terrible passer. Yes, he makes some good throws, but with some pressure on him and the WRs he's as accurate as Rosier was v Pitt in 2017 (vomit)

He got much more accurate. Still a spaz at time, streaky. But A&M OC has mitigated his weaknesses for the most part. Do not count on him being bad is all I'm saying.

The keys to making him have a bad performance will be disguised coverages, disguised blitzes and sound tactical use of press. If we can disrupt his field vision or timing with his route runners, and force him into his second read or into a scramble, he's toast. He is not good when off platform.

We have a much better defense than they do

I wonder if Collin Klein accepting the LSU HC job changes their aggression on offense. I really wouldn't be surprised if he calls the game a rock more aggressively than he typically would have.

Think about it he already got his HC job. He's playing with house money. In a critical moment that Mario and Elko would likely want to be conservative or even he may have been more conservative, I could see him basic just saying **** it we're going for it all...

I think our defensive game plan should maybe be a little more conservative and let Reed beat himself. You force him to be a dink and dunker and it won't pan out well.

Most critical thing defensively imo is wrapping up Craver+Concepcion+Reed. We have been an incredibly bad tackling team. Especially on potential sacks.

I LOVE TO BRAWL IN THE PARKING LOT BUT I HAVENT SEEN THE CANES WIN A BIG GAME LIKE THIS IN THE POST SEASON SINCE 2001 WHEN I WAS 21

I WILL BE IN COLLEGE STATION

You have two offensive lines, maybe the best right tackle in college football and Francis Mauigoa at Miami that's going to be able to go up against Cashius Howell and some of those edge defenders for Texas A&M.

Mark Fletcher a back for that group that has been able to play ground and pound at times this season. Going up against a really good Texas A&M defensive line.

It's not just the edge defenders. Albert Regis and company inside can be just as destructive. uh a Texas A&M offensive line that has good football under their belt this year. It's been a little inconsistent. Part of that because they've played a lot of bodies. They've rotated guys. Not a lot of teams do that this day and age, but they'll be going up against Rueben Bain and Messidor and company. They can get after the quarterback and be disruptive against the run.

And I think the most intriguing part of this game is not just the two quarterbacks and how we've seen great football from them. We've seen some mistake late in football from those two. I think it's that the Miami secondary, if we're just talking about speed and athleticism, may have the best chance possibly of anybody that A&M has played this year. Notre Dame's got some great corners, and that would be one that I would put into that mix, but they might have the best chance to be able to run with some of these A&M receivers than anybody they've played this year. And that's not a group that shies away from trying to hit you. They're not afraid to trade paint. They'll come down in the box and play the run.

I I just think when you go back and forth and look at the different aspects of this matchup, the different directions it could go and it's going to come down to one two guys that just have great games. Does Rueben Bain take this game over? Does Cashius Howell take this this game over? Uh does the Texas A&M ground game that includes Marcel Reed and his legs take this game over? Uh I just think you does KC Concepcion take this game over? There are so many, I guess, takeover players that are going to see legitimate matchup issues in this game. I don't know where to point the way it's going to go. I don't know which unit to look at and say that is going to decide whether or not they win this football game or not because others could show up and be just as or more important.
