Steele's defense and some...

Not looking to get chastised by all the "coaches" on the board, but I don't think Tyrique has the speed to cover elite WR's. Maybe put him in Flagg's position. :)
He got stacked by an FCS WR. I can’t really think of a game where he just shut his side/guy down. He’s a good player but he’s not what many on the board make him out to be unfortunately

lol Flagg played very good. Showed better speed out there than last year, but Johnson is better athletically. But I see why Keontra Smith ain’t starting.. he was out of position a few times and gave up that TD. Mesidor has to play inside more because he lost contain a few times. He lacks speed to play outside imho
Must have missed it. He needs to make 5X the plays he made to play good. Not big enough and not fast enough. A&M is going to be a rough day if our LB play does not improve. It very well can.

Sometimes just give the opponent some credit. They schemed some good **** up early. They had athleticism. I know it’s Bethune so you don’t expect that but they had some skill talent..Texas ATM and that’ archaic O put up a 31 and punted 4xs vs Sam Houston
They brought in a bunch of guys Thru the portal to upgrade their roster too

Flagg won't make plays that the casual fan will notice (at least not consistently), but he was solid throughout the game with his run fits. His value on the field and probably why Steele will keep Flagg on the field more than most fans care for is because Flagg seems to have a solid grasp of what the **** is going on out there.

Flagg at several points of the game was directing his fellow LBs as well as DL. In a few cases, it seemed Flagg moved his teammates into a position to make a play.

Until the other LBs are making game-changing plays, I don't know how Steele will be convinced to remove Flagg from playing meaningful minutes.
This is a good and objective post on Flagg. I'm tough on him and Ivey (like most of us). Although I don't think he is a UM caliber starting linebacker, he does bring some value on the field. It's obvious that he is a student of the game and has a solid grasp of what is going on out there. I also noticed he is pretty active pre-snap directing teammates and communicating.

Just sucks he is so slow at reacting to plays and making plays, because he appears to have the smarts and instincts of good MLB's. Maybe he is not slow at reacting, but he lacks that quick first step to get him into place to make the play on majority of plays. If he in the right place, they often run right by him because of his lack of speed. I'm sorry, but this is a problem. See this a handful of times every game, looks like his is stuck in concrete.

I'll agree with you on Flagg's value. Now Ivey on the other hand, I am not sure what value he brings on the field.

I know it’s cliche to say the old “ he’s not as good as people on the board say “ but scouts and experts say the exact same thing as posters here. First round or second is likely. I’m sure you wasn’t on here talking when he held Addison to 1 catch and 9 yards when he lined up over him.

11 just stood there like a statue when they are running crossing patterns right in front of him… smh

And they were targeting Ivey on almost every throw, they definitely watched some film.
I sat there with my remote this morning & only watched him & rewinded almost every play. I guess I enjoy suffering. He should never play a down here again.

He was horrendous unless the play was literally ran right at him. Which anyone on the roster can do. He is a lost dog in passing situations.

I don’t see it, goat. Scouts and experts are wrong all the time. I trust my eyes and my own knowledge of the game. I don’t really fall back just because “experts” say something different. Idc. I don’t see a 1st or 2nd round corner today. He’s physical and good in run support, but he gets beat clean on vertical routes and struggles with makeup speed. Think his future in the league is in the nickel

Idk why Blades can’t be boundary corner over Ivey? He was solid there last time he played wasn’t he? And only matter of time before Wes takes some snaps from Flagg, he looks solid in back up duty
Realize that as a boundary corner the skill set needed there is unreal.
Usually boundary corners of just absolute freaks of nature. When Vtech was pumping out CBs to the NFL and Bud Foster was there, all there studs were playing boundary corner.
Ivey is 100% a field corner, whether he deserves to be on the field is another discussion, that usually what you do with length and slower hips and someone afraid to get physical.
Field corners are players that protect you from deep threats, boundary corner have to be fast aggressive and play 1v1 all day. You actually put your worst DB at field corner.

Sometimes players fall asleep when they play garbage teams, I wasn't stressing about it, was a little surprised sure, but just like the wheel route from the RB, it was the perfect play call on Steeles play call, you saw JW coming on the blitz or he was playing man on the RB and he got tripped up.
People don't understand that there is another team that does get paid and that have coaches and players who show up too, on their first game of the year against a big time school, so they want to show out to scouts if they can.
This game went pretty dog on well if you ask me. it was slow to start off with but that natural for a team that builds up based on a strong running game, that's why the passes were always dead nuts on and easy pitch and catch and it destroyed the bodies of BCU.

Some people expect 21 pts in the first drive somehow. The way Mario is building this roster and team is how you build a quality Championship team, regardless of how much the game has changed and rules etc. you still need to run the ball, block and tackle and have ball security (i.e., win the turnover game) above everything else.

It’s not a PlayStation game, sir.

The waves of talent on that side of the ball (sans LB) will be what makes this a 10-2 team.

Thinking just coaching will get you a win VS ass2mouth is the dumbest thing I’ve read all day today.

You'll have to excuse my fellow Cane - it's just that after twenty-odd years of Siht Coaching - we're not sure of the limitations.

Sam Houston is a legit title contender fcs school. They would whip Bethune.

By TAMU I fully expect for you to get you wishes. Caleb Johnson will replace Flagg full time and Porter replaces Ivey.

We’ll see. I could see the southern Miss offense “concealing” some of Flagg’s deficiencies. Unless they change their playcalling between now and Saturday, he’s Not going to get caught in open space near as much.
