Status check on W/L expectations?

Based on Big Manny's statements, I don't think he agrees with you for Miami.

Could our Canes take a big step forward in 23? Absolutely possible, but play season 100x they aren't winning a natty.

Could our Canes make measured and definitive improvement? Absolutely possible and likely given the additions of Lee and Cohen. What does that mean though?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. For me at this time until I see more, that consists of handling/manhandling: Miami (OH), BCU, Temple, GT, UVA, and The Fighting Blake Jameses and taking 2 dub-u's from AtM, UNC, Clemson, NC St, FSU, and Louie Louie.

Given Miami's upcoming schedule, we won't know much about "true consistent goodness" until at least 14 Oct, but could know about "oh **** here we go again" by then as well.

Ahhhhh, I see what u’re tryna do here.

What are you thinking on UNC, NCest, and Louie Louie? Ws? Toss ups? Ls?

Honestly for me, until I see more, my best is "I dunno".

What am I missing?

Have I been so disappointed and broken by let downs of yesterday that I'm just a hollow shell of a fan devoid of joy and hope? Ok probably yes. This is depressing.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

NCSt introduces a new QB
UNC introduces a new OC & no more Josh Downs
UL introduces a new QB, & whole new staff

Bro, these “should” be W’s for us. I’m putting emphasis on “should.” I’m in hold mold, but if we go into these games healthy & we go 0-3 or 1-2 in these games, this will be worrisome for me.

Finally someone unafraid of an acc schedule

I hear you but UNC concerns me… just our overall approach when it comes to them. We’ve dropped 4 in a row… have lost 6 of the last 8 against them. And I can’t wrap my head around it. We’ve entered a lot of those games with favorable circumstances and still **** it away.

Then you tack on our usual UNC and FSU (when we lose) hangover losses… we lose to the next opponent no matter who because we’re despondent and can’t get our **** together.

A good staff wins 8 for sure with this roster vs this schedule. Anything less than that and I'm going to start to worry about Mario the coach keeping pace with Mario the recruiter.

We have 6 games that we have absolutely no business losing. And yes, I know we lost a lot of games last year (and for the last 20 years) that we had no business losing. But we're trying to say the program is actually invested and trying and turning a corner, so this is supposed to be different, right?

We lose to any of Miami (OH), Bethune, Temple, GT, UVA, and BC and I'll vomit. Teams improve from 1 year to the next (isn't that what we're hoping happens here?), but these teams combined to go 22-48 last year. Not a single one had a winning record.

We should be able to go 2-4 against A&M, UNC, FSU, Clemson, NC State, and Louisville. That's 8-4.

My point is my brotha, this shouldn’t be happening any longer.

On Clemson’s level? No
On paper, on TAMU’s level? No
On Bama’s level? No
On UGA’s, OSU’s, UofM’s levels? No

On UL, UNC, FSU’s level?? Based upon who we have as a coach & this complete roster change to upgrade the rooms + what UL & UNC is introducing this season? Dude, again I stand by what I said; if we lose more than 4 games this season, imma feel some type of way.

Considering the abortion that was the 2022 Miami team had UNC on the ropes, I'm not convinced an improved 2023 Miami team can't beat them. Especially with Phil Longo in Wisconsin now.

Chip Lindsey is trash. If I celebrated at a 10/10 when we hired Mario, I think it was 9.5/10 when I heard Longo was headed out of Chapel Hill.

Agreed. Lindsey is a Malzahn wannabe who really hasn't run a great offense anywhere besides one season at Southern Miss while Todd Monken was pulling the strings. I would not be surprised to see UNC take a nosedive offensively similar to UVA when they replaced Robert Anae with Des Kitchings. They went from 35 points per game and 515 yards of offense to 17 points per game and 344 yards of offense all because they wanted more "balance". So instead of being a great passing offense with a weak ground game, they got a weak passing offense to match their weak run game. Kind of reminds me of a team we all know very well.

Some of the win predictions I'm seeing honestly just blow me away.

6 or 7 wins?

If thats the number with a schedule that has 4-5 absolute gimmes, WTF did we spend $80,000,000 for?

Agreed. If we can only win 6 games with this schedule, we have some really serious problems.

And I know this is NOT the roster that we paid 80M for, no doubt. He needs the 2024 class and IMO the 2024 roster will look pretty close to what we should expect when you hire Mario Cristobal. But he's flipped it enough to win more than 6 games. If not, we are in a world of ****.

Just doing a quick roster comparison of 2022 vs 2023, and this year's 2 deep is way better than last year's 2 deep. Plus with the added competition in certain key positions (WR, RB, CB, LB, etc). it'll force players to step up, and we didn't really see that last year. Last year was a bunch of staters/role players who had been here for a while and got complacent. I don't think we have that issue currently.

This roster is night & day compared to last year's.

There was a lack of leadership in the locker room last year, but with the addition of guys like Lee, Cohen and Mauigoa, they'll provide the leadership that this team has been missing.

Add the upgrades in coordinators and staff, with the talent on this roster and the floor is 8 wins. EASILY.

We’re about to find out my boy… we have a long standing history of losing games we had no business losing. We need to be on the other side of that quickly. Like now…

Predicting losses against NCst or BC? With this roster? With this staff? How is that acceptable? 🤯

This is why I expect NC State to be better then expected and UNC to be worse. Anae had Syracuse looking solid last year and now he's at NC State where they usually have a solid defense and he has his QB that put up really good stats with him. We are expecting Dawson to fix TVD, I would imagine Anae gets Armstrong back right. All that said we should still win 8 just think NC State will be a tough game with FSU the following week.

The painful thing about when an organization "turns the corner" in a good way is it's often not recognized or knowable until sometime afterwards.

Beating AtM (or at least close) is not turning the corner at that moment.

Beating UNC, Clemson, NCest, FSU, and Louie Louie later on gives us then an indication our Canes turned a corner during AtM tilt.

It's very possible that NC state is the tougher matchup of the North Carolinas. The Anae/Armstrong combo was deadly at UVA in 2021 but our crappy defense held them relatively in check. They're going to throw the ball all over the place next year.

Someone's gotta be the voice of reason so: With a healthy Zion Nelson at LT we have best OLine in ACC and we win at least 9 games. The Oline allows TVD to be what he is, a top 3 QB in the conference and will also allow guys like George and Young to step up. LB and secondary had a major face-lift. Guidry will get it done. 9 wins
