I actually loved Applewhite as OC with Greg Ward. Very impressive team that year.

This. In the age of the 24 hr news cycle people forget that Applewhite was Briles before Briles. He was a big time OC on the market but took the UH job. Flopped because he ruined Ed Oliver and that D but if he is just calling plays..not sure why this isn't considered a great backup to Fedora.

NEWSFLASH: We are running out of great OC candidates on the market. Keep phucking around and we will be stuck with Coley who is the 4th choice.

One plus with Applewhite is he would be able to double up with QB coach spot. Fedora would not. With only 4 coaching spots left for offense, I am still not sure how we would divide positions if we hire Fedora.

1) OC - Fedora (and have him pick up WRs?)
2) QB Coach
3) OL coach
4) RB/TE

With Applewhite, or another QB specialist it is a bit more logical:
1) OC/QB - Applewhite
2) OL Coach
3) RB coach
4) WR/TE coach

Don’t we have 5 spots open for offense? We have 5 on defense (Baker, Simpson, Patke, Rumph and Banda). 10 total no? Are you assuming a FT special teams coordinator?

It would suck not to land Seider, but resorting to Sed Irvin instead at RB coach would be a massive kick to the nuts.

I've seen a few defend Irvin by saying he once worked for Saban, but going from being on Bama's staff 10 years ago to currently serving as the head coach at Southridge HS is the polar opposite of upward trajectory. And his anti-Miami BS is well-documented from Tim Irvin's recruitment.

Seider would widely be viewed as an A+ hire. Hiring Irvin, on the other hand, would be Ice Harris-esque. Hard pass.

Things change pretty **** fast with Lauzin. Which means this could all be true or it could all be flat out wrong. I mean he just said Irvin interviewing soon then changed course and said staff interviews coming after the OC is hired.

I was off on counting... thought the rule change bumped to 10 total, not 10 assistants.

Fedora and Applewhite are red herrings. The guy they are working out details with is an very interesting name. Might work out pretty good.
This has been my thought all along. Manny stating that his OC hire would get us all excited, the names Fedora, Applewhite, or even Coley didn't have me pitch a tent in my Levis. Could be way off base which is a distinct possibility.

This true
