Official Spring PractiSe #4: Tuesday, March 21

U know what’s interesting about those who say half full or half empty? Both r right & wrong at the same time; the only answer that is right, is the tangible aspect of that view…that water is in the glass. I don’t care if some thinks it’s half full & others thinks it’s half empty. The only thing I see is water is in the glass; that’s undeniable.

So saying last yr’s team underperformed is undeniable, but I can also say that’s not a glass half full statement. The fact is, pick a year from 2003 (a team that produced the most 1st round picks in a single draft) - present, & find me a Miami team that hasn’t underperformed. U can literally say that about every single team for 20 yrs based upon personnel.

TVD was healthy for the first 6 games, & we were 3-3, including 1-3 against P5 schools. Could it possibly be the reason we’ve been underperforming for the past 20 yrs is b/c that grind, zeal, want has waned? I’m all for kids having a break, but it’s a difference when a program has been established at the heights of dominance, semblance, a winning culture vs. trying to get there. Like I’m not sure why JJ was brought up when we were thee team in the 80’s the culture was well established.

Imo, I would’ve liked for our players to fall back to get extra rep, work time, & study to push for that next level.

Agreed that nuance and context are important.

Water? Glass half empty? Half full?

At this point, half the board is on their 3rd pitcher of Kool aid, topping off the glass before it empties saying 8 wins at Miami is good…

The other half is 14 ****tails in and threw the glass off the wall trying to hit the MTSU players dominating us and now drinking straight from the bottle…

I spose the sell could be that, especially at OL, you're one twisted ankle away from grabbing a starting spot and then it's up to you to keep it. Get em on campus and let them fight for it.
true but it’s likely equally true at their current school. If they are further down the depth chart then an “ankle injury away,” I don’t want ‘em.

Mauigoa already passed up McCoy and Washington (he’s out of here, by the way).

The rate at which Okunlola is splitting reps with Rivers is accelerating every practice.

Rivers and Nelson are just ok. When the difference between the young guy and the veteran is negligible - which it is - then you give the youth the benefit of the doubt and let them learn on the job. These two guys are closer to Tyree St. Louis than they are Feliciano or some other cats like that.

Make a mental note of watching them during the spring game if you don’t believe me.
There not even in full pads aint no 1 pas sup anyone yet. I dont even take it seriously until full pads are on....neither do most players. Alot is rewards early for good off szn work in weightroom and not actual play this early on.

Ok.

This is the part most of these guys arent factoring in.
Gutys will be transferring in for a guaranteed spot or a young guy who had issues at his previous place or not starting there maybe wanting to come back home...to south florida.

Ill definately take another OL...but guaranteeing you arent getting a Sogapalu again in the portal at this juncture or after spring is tough...Maybe if they look to the IVY league schools for a transfer depth guy?.
Exactly. Just because we need depth doesn’t mean that guys are going to want to transfer here. It’s not like D Line where you rotate a ton of guys. Reserve offensive linemen don’t play unless there’s an injury or a blowout.

Imagine if one came on here between 2003 and 2021 and used 8 wins and good in the same sentence…

Infinitely more resources = lower expectations

🤔….
Somehow we’re just hoping to upset teams that we expected Manny Diaz to beat. Barring ridiculous injuries, the entire staff should fire themselves if they don’t win 8 games.

Rivers will be supplanted by Okunlola. If that’s near the end of spring, fall camp, or in the season is obviously going to come down to how well Okunlola shows out in pads.

By the end of the year, it’ll be
LT - Okunlola
LG - Cohen
C - Lee
RG - Cooper (he’s showing he’s all business transforming his body)
RT - Mauigoa

I dont care how ling Rivers or Nelson have been here, how many starts they have, or what they’ve in the past.

I don’t think the coaches care and you shouldn’t either.

Nelson and Rivers don’t win you titles. Players like Mauigoa and Okunlola do.
**** Ghandi… taking a lot of downvote hits on that one.

Can someone point me to the dominant games that Rivers has had at LG? I’ll even take a stretch of series against higher level opponents. People keep posting that he’s elite and he’s not. Cooper has flashes of elite on field production.

FM and Rivers are not the same player.
Mahatma about to start going colonial on porster ***.

8-4 is not enough for you given where we ended last season and the swiss cheese we still have along our 2 deep? ... I am sure they "can" win more than 8, but I don't expect it. IMO, this is a multi-year rebuild and we need another Top 10 class and another solid portal haul to start expecting 10+ wins.
