Spring game thoughts

Vehemently disagree with both you and @DMoney . You are both hoping a 4th guy emerges at DT. Maybe Horton, Jones or even Simpson becomes a key contributor. Maybe none of the three starters gets nicked up over a 13-16 game season. Never bet the team's success on that though.

And haven't we run the hybrid experiment enough to know we shouldn't rely on DEs at DT. Play them there situationally, sure. But they should not be considered when thinking about DT depth. Same as Lofton at TE/RB. Count him as one or the other, not as both.
Agreed. If Mesidor or Blount are the options, go get more DTs

100% agree. Those who think we don’t need rotational depth at DT are fooling themselves. Blay, Scott (although somewhat unproven) and moten are a decent top 3. After that, we have nobody yet. We need an extra body for the rotation and god forbid if blay gets banged up. Hard to depend on Horton when he has barely played and been banged up his whole career. Those types usually stay that way.

We are a bit better at DE in that we have a very solid 2 deep. After Bryant and Blount, we have mcconathy, lightfoot and Lowe.

Not sure I agree.

If I’m looking to have fun my last semester in college, perhaps. But, if I truly want to play at the next level sitting behind 2 other backs and possibly the “best football player on the team who doubles as the starting TE” isn’t something that will get me the looks I need.
If we are running the ball a lot they are gonna want to rest Fletch and Lyle.
Even with limited snaps he’ll be running behind a great oline.
I see your point and I agree.
But why go get beat up for another year with less exposure? As I posted about networking and connections. He may be wanting to explore more than just football.

We did not score on the goal line. We still don’t have a qb who is capable of a qb sneak, unless it’s Nickel. Didn’t see the game tho…
Emory would be foolish not to shop himself around.

To be clear, I absolutely think we need to add a rotational guy. I just don’t see us splurging on a guy like Barrow last year.

Then I wouldn't expect us to do well against teams with a strong run game (like ND). I still have PTSD from those 8-minute scoring drives by GT last season.

Happens pretty much annually but this fanbase has forgotten what a legit d line looks like. Every single position across the Dline should be upgraded if we are aiming to take the next step as a program.

While I agree we have far bigger needs to fill and that will and should be the focus of resources…. The talk of our D line being an upper echelon unit seems completely far fetched based on what we have on paper.

Development and or evaluations need to improve there.
This and only this. We heard the DL was going to amazing last year and got their assesss handed to them

yeah Bain and Mesidor are both mid, Scott and Moten are bad, Lightfoot, Blount, and Lowe are not good enough for this level. We need major and immediate talent upgrades across every position!

Every position on our roster needs a major upgrade when you thin about it…

Here is exactly my point. I swear this fanbase doesn’t watch college football other than the miami hurricanes/ACC caliber rosters.

This being your comeback like it’s a gotcha moment is comical 🤣

The big DL class was 2024 so we got a couple years before we can really get a handle on that last part

DL and WR groups feel similar where there’s a lot to like there but it’s young so addressing both with some veteran help would be a good idea to me

It was a retarded post you made. We must immediately upgrade Bain with a top 2-4 returning edge now. I mean we have to upgrade across the board right?

Mesidor is a proven starting level EDGE. Our backups are literally all the highest rated recruits on this entire roster, and they aren’t good enough and need to be upgraded accordingly to you lol. That’s like 3 borderline or actual 5stars in that group (Blount, Lightfoot, Lowe).

All you essentially are saying is all our guys aren’t yet proven. If you made this comment exclusively about DT, maybe I could see your point. Otherwise it’s dumb imo.

The funny thing is you will say all these other programs that you watch have such better dlines like Ohio state or something. Yet completely ignore Ohio state is losing their entire starting DLine to the draft and their returners are even more unproven than ours lol. So yeah the production last year out of our DLine wasn’t great. I’d argue that was heavily scheme related. And the teams you are comparing them to almost all are losing those guys you are saying are better.

That’s your opinion and respect it. We will learn a lot week 1 but this d line on paper doesn’t give me much confidence.

I see zero difference makers on the d line that can consistently win 1 on 1’s. Hope I’m proven very wrong

Just get you an upperclassman who’s looking to chase a playoff run. I’m sure there’s a DT2 somewhere that’s looking for one last run. Not a sunbelt gem either.

Buddy is gonna be hanging on to that stance like Jack hanging on to that door in Titanic
It's so stupid cause alll he said was "I don't think UM 2026 starting QB was on the roster currently." Which is a fine take, but then the way he defended himself was ***** made. "Oh I'm always gonna go with physical traits." And then the 3rd team/walk ons comment, now I really want Nickle to drag his nuts on Lakes face

This. @DMoney here's a question for you -- how does this year's DT line hold up against last year's playoff teams' run games?

My guess is we couldn't get off the field consistently against ND, Georgia, Oregon, Texas, Ohio State, Penn State, Boise State and Indiana. Especially if one of them goes down or is banged up. Not where you want to be if you want to make a playoff run with Beck.
