Something we may see this week

Do you guys in the "Perry should start as a True Freshman" camp want to win big this year or not? Are you more concerned about 2018 or 2017?

I'm concerned about winning this year. And I'm concerned that the limited skillsets of our older QBs will prevent us from doing so.

Blake Sims appears to be the hot comparison. Sims was an elite recruit who broke Alabama's passing record as a senior. He was athletic enough to get NFL looks as a running back. It's a crap comparison.

Maybe I'm missing something when I watch our older guys. Wouldn't be the first time. But Richt named Vinny Testaverde as co-#2 last year after camp. That should be a pretty big clue as to what we're dealing with here.

If one of them wins the job, I'll get behind them. They have improved. But there's a reason I'm cheering so hard for Perry, and it has nothing to do with his sparkling personality or some message board prediction.

From Richts comments today, it seems like Perry's confidence is shaken from a subpar scrimmage performance. Hard to think this kids game can mature enough to lead us into Doak in a month...

There's plenty to learn about Rosier and Shirreffs that should remain relevant to Richt.

He's had two years to evaluate those two versus each other. He said it himself in the presser that they aren't going to get much better in a week (which is his targeted decision date). If Richt really hasn't made up his mind on Shirreffs v. Rosier, then keep the battle going. But I consider that unlikely at this point.

Those extra snaps will not only help develop Perry, but they will also give the staff a better evaluation.
No idea why he needs to necessarily make a decision by a specific date. In this case, I rather be right than on time.

Maybe the older guys are, in fact, close enough to each other and both currently above Perry? If so, just extend the battle another week. I'd still make it live, but you know where I stand on live bullets and QBs. It's been my issue for years.

Apparently, Richt said today there isn't a timetable on the decision. If so, I'm very excited he's taken that approach. Let this situation unfold. No reason to get up or down so long as we choose the dude most likely to be effective for us this season. We have a ton of options as to how this can be approached and work guys in based on merit.

Waiting for nkosi to take the job

Flies in the face of everything the insiders have been saying.

It confirms exactly what I've been saying.

Perry is behind the veterans, but Richt is giving him (a true freshman who just bombed the scrimmage) every opportunity to win the job. That should be telling.

Miami improves on last year's season and likely wins the ACC Coastal with a solid QB performance. Force feeding Perry into a role he's not ready for would be a mistake.

Matt Porter posted a video and Perry was missing throws without defense even on the field.

This.

Let's not forget the impact that winning will have on our 2018 recruiting class. Go with the most consistent option and lets roll.

Yep, that's good to hear. Another interesting thing he said was that he will be carrying the competition into the season.

I had Perry winning the job in camp, but we may be looking at a Deshaun Watson/Lamar Jackson situation where he takes over midseason.

Yes, there is still time for Perry to make a move but my gut is telling me Richt is keeping the 'competition' alive to keep the kids heads in it as if they still have a chance even if they really do not at this point. My guess is it will be Rosier or Evan but no reason to let that be known right now. Perry had a rough scrimmage so no need to hurt his confidence even more by naming him #3 and then all of a sudden he starts relaxing.

Im not saying this is what is going on but I wouldn't be shocked and I feel that is where we stand personally. Yes, there is still some time but it needs to be the rest of this week and a stellar scrimmage for him.

That was LAST year, D$---365 days ago---with players in a new system--learning the details of what Richt wants (footwork, timing, etc). Guys can improve from one year to the next. Heck, we've seen the Evan and Malik improve from spring to now. It happens. Sometimes it takes longer to click for some guys.

Look at Mike Jackson---Mike Smith, etc.

If we put Perry under center this season, we are essentially playing for next year, because never in the history of college football have we seen a true freshman QB, in a sophisticated passing attack go gangbusters. Perry as a starter = playing for 2018; it's just that simple

This team has turned the corner and got a taste of what it means/feels like to win. It's time to keep the foot on the gas, not throttle down to eek our way along with a true Freshman QB under center. Putting Perry under center will hold this team back this year, 100%. This is a team that is ready to win big now!

Perry is the future, but he is not ready. It's **** near impossible to be, considering he just got to campus less than 2 months ago.

It would be a shame to waste the first two games and the opportunity for Perry to run the offense for 8 quarters. If the plan is to make him the QB eventually, don't pussyfoot around and let Rosier or Shirreffs steal snaps that will stunt Perry's growth.

Most of what you say is dumb as **** but you actually make a solid point here(rare). If the plan is for Perry to take over at some point this season, get him started early and face two underwhelming opponents. Not start Rosier or Shireffs and then mid way into the season, switch it up if they're underperforming. It deserves to be a fair competition but if it's even close, start the freshman. If he's in the final two, condense it down to two and get them as many snaps in practice and scrimmages as possible.

"The plan," if Rick isn't braindead, should be to play the QB he thinks we can win the most games with. It should have nothing to do with making Perry the starter later in the season.

Except for our last one, who led the ACC in passing and passer rating.

Here's a better bet than Perry starting against FSU:

If the competition is being carried into the season (as it should) then Perry will be the starter after the FSU game.

Richt comments and thinking is as clear as day, he eventually wants nkosi to take over the job whether that be before the first game or during the season. Richt at first said he wanted to name a starter after the second scrimmage or so now he's saying he's not doing that. Also that there is going to be an open competition even if the starter is named through the season. He's staying patient because he's waiting for perry to take the job period..

Sims wasn't an elite QB recruit which is really what matters in this argument and he was a low 4-star athlete. Not exactly an elite recruit by any standard.

You have gone so far as to suggest Richt engineer the race so Perry gets more snaps even though he hasn't earned them and per Richt today doesn't know where to go with the ball. That idea of yours probably has something to do with the ledge you've stepped out on and that ranting on Pete's podcast. Judging from the extended practice video from today Perry appears erratic throwing against air as well. So all the talk about all the throws he's capable of making should probably simmer down if he's having issues throwing against air in drills before practice really gets going.

And the QB who gives us the best chance to win in September may not be the same guy as in November.

I trust Richt to make the right decision. But it's a tough spot to be in.

... and how many games did we win? It has NEVER happened that a true freshman, non-early enrolling passing QB, has ever done any serious winning, like what is expected this year, around 10 wins. NEVER.
