Some thoughts on the Louisville loss

If you get out of work at 5pm, depending where you work, it can take you 1-2.5 hours to get to the stadium in rush hour by adding the extra stadium traffic for a 7pm game.

The stadium was not near full at kickoff. By the 2nd quarter, the stadium was 95% full. Thats a great crowd for a Friday night at Miami. We aren’t talking about Athens or Tuscaloosa here.

The fans do the best they can. The fan base/crowds have increased since Mario took over.

Calling out the fans is just weird to me. Fans are doing their best. I left work early to get my kid at the bus stop and we left for the game around 3:45 from Kendall and it still took me 1:15 hour to get to the stadium.

We have a right to be disappointed by the performance of the coaches and the team coming off a bye week.

Mario and the AD should petition for no more Friday games. They are awful. I don’t see the Big or SEC playing on Thursday or Friday nights.
Yep same deal with Va Tech last year and Miami was what 4-0 at the time? Late arriving crowd after work Friday. Some idiot called out the fans in another thread and got lit up for it. Embarrassing look for @DMoney

Same **** we see on this site constantly. People talking out of their asses with no clue what’s going on about certain subjects.

It’s time to re-up my yearly post on Mario’s “culture.”

You cannot sustain a culture that’s built on accountability, when you take no accountability yourself. You aren’t putting the kids in the best situations to succeed. You played 2 games in 4 weeks and did nothing to make the team better. You’re asking these kids to literally run through a brick wall and then saying we just need to execute better when they can’t do it. It’s gotta be maddening to play for a guy like that.

If you want to know about a guy who understands his position as a HC, listen to Dillingham’s rant after their loss last week. He took it all on the chin. And then his guys bounced back for him and beat TT yesterday.
Everything sounds good when you win and bad when you lose. There are plenty of narcissistic a holes who won alot of games and they never took any blame. If Mario got a style, he need to win with it, very simple. Otherwise, its excuses. This is the year i said i would judge him. Our goals are ahesd of us. Lose more games and Franklin will only dream of this type of hot seat.

It’s most certainly overrated. It’s a good unit but not elite as it was billed. If Mario and the budget can’t roll out an elite OL in year 4, then what advantage do they offer? This was supposed to be our biggest strength.
There was one play in which there were like 20 linemen (being sarcastic) and Bell lined up at Guard and he pulled in the running play. When he got to the point of impact as a blocker he was soft as the marshmallow man and the defender made the tackle for after a 2 yard gain. I was expecting Bell to use his 6’9 fans 300+ pounds frame to good use. Nope!!! Soft!

Unlike Cooper on the long tunnel screen pass to Toney when he got out and laid someone out Which sparked the long run after catch by Toney.

I will be shocked if this team goes 11-1, shocked. If they do I will apologize profusely
This season lies in the hands of Carson Beck in my eyes. Defense did a **** of a Job covering his *** after all them picks n he still threw the game away at the end smh..clean up the penalties and don’t gift the ball to the other team 4 ******* times n we will win every game left on the schedule.

I know his name is poison on this board, and some of it for good reason, but Bud Elliott does make some good points at times. One reason for some pessimism on Miami in general is exactly what D mentioned. These middle of the road ACC home games, we get zero juice from the building. No, it’s not an excuse why we lost. And it’s literally never going to get any better, we just have to deal with it. But he (and he’s not the only one by any means) has pointed out that the home crowd atmosphere critique is two-fold. People say we have no home field advantage. That’s patently false. For the big games, it’s absolutely an advantage. ND and UiF were absolutely advantageous situations.

But for these ACC games, the building is largely dead, most notably at the start. Many, many other teams in the P4 (just about all of them, to be fair) get energy from the home crowds every single time out. To be blunt, we don’t. Elliott has pointed that out as a reason that we’ve traditionally struggled in these spots. We can all roll our eyes, and part of me does. At the end of the day, it’s your job to coach and play well, whether there’s 8 or 80,000 in the building. You’re literally paid to do it these days. But to completely ignore it as a factor is disingenuous at this point. It’s beyond a trend.

I’m sure this post will get negged, and that’s fine. It’s NOT the reason we lost. And again, this is probably pointless, because we’re never going to just make the place Nebraska or Death Valley for “******” ACC teams. There’s no solution, frankly. But I do think it contributes to the performance in some way. I wish there was some way to change it, but it’s never going to happen. We just have to find ways to win in the 1-2 times a year when we do come out flat (EVERY team does it), because we’re not going to get carried by the building in these underwhelming on-paper matchups.
It’s fine. It’s a true and honest point. It’s been that way forever here even back in the days of the orange bowl. I remember sitting in the WEZ playing Louisiana Tech at 12pm in the blazing September sun on a Saturday and the stadium being flat. Those teams found a way to get going. We will never be what many here wish we were: some college town crazed atmosphere.

But you are correct about the energy but it’s also, IMO, reason #20 and not worthy of a mention as one of the keys when the players and coaches getting paid can’t get their house in order.

If we make the playoff but not the ACC chip, would you consider this season a failure ?

I consider not winning the ACC in year ******* 4, when Clemson and FSU are dumpster fires a failure, period. Forget just making the game, why are we not winning it in year 4 when we have the highest paid roster and staff, and Mario has all of his guys?

Making the playoffs mean nothing to me unless we are playing for it all. I rather win the ACC and get bounced in our 1st game of the playoffs, than not win the ACC and let's say get bounced in R2 of the playoffs. Unless we are playing for it all, I don't care.

This can’t be a serious response

Mario isn’t a narcissist. But his style is the issue. He’s just too stubborn and/or either too arrogant or too dumb to get it.

Only an idiot would prefer getting bouced in R2 of the playoffs which literally means nothing, over capturing an ACC title which has eluded us for 20 years and getting bounced R1.

What banner or title do you claim for a R2 appearance in the playoffs? What is the difference getting bounced R1 vs R2?

Jordan Lyle is bouncing around and struggling to fit the run scheme.

What run scheme?

You know, the one where we run into a pile of defenders.

I was kind of hard on Lyle, but maybe he's smarter and better than I thought. It doesn't make sense to run directly into a wall of people. He might be onto something with his dance routine, waiting for a hole to open even if it doesn't.

Blaming the fans is weak sauce. The fans were not responsible for the team getting smacked in the mouth and not being able to come back. The stadium was loud. I picked up the kids, drove down from Orlando, made it in time for kick off. Traffic is a pain in the ***, so Mario can **** off letting the fans down with his lack of preparation for Louisville, and then the voice of the Hecht blames the same fans.

You know what kills a crowd. Letting the opposing team drive down the field, stopping them on 3rd, falling for an obvious fake FG, then thinking you stopped them because you didn't know the situation that they can get a first...

Blaming the crowd again is a sign of dysfunction. How you do anything is how your heralded OL keeps ******* up, your run game coordinator is a corch and you are a meat head that fears his own shadow while pounding your hand talking about being a real man.

This very heavily depends on if you mean not win the ACC as in losing the ACCCG or not. Losing the ACCCG is a fail period. If we have 1 loss and because of the tiebreakers that keeps us out of the ACCCG, and then we go on to win a playoff game against a team seeded Better than us, that is a successful season, period. If we win the ACCCG, I'd assume we are getting the 4th/5th seed at worst (we likely don't win the ACCCG with more than our current loss btw). To then be a 1 loss team seeded 4th and then lose your first game would be bad. And I guarantee you a win over like UVA/GTech in the ACCCG isn't going to get all that much praise by anyone here if we lose our 1st playoff game a month later...

These guys and Mario are still hungover from being "State Champs"
