Shouldnt a top Coach have his team in at least 1 title game?

Only coaches who played in the title game and were available had baggage or we're proven to be frauds. Chip Kelly and Tressel, baggage, Miami was not going to hire either. Chizik was a fraud who rode Cam to a title.

Would take a guy like Richt over first timers or MAC coaches we have hired lately. We all want to win titles but this program has been in the **** for so long that we had to get someone who was proven. Richt is a safe bet to at least make Miami relevant on a yearly basis. Hopefully he can finally get over the hump here.

Look, I like Richt, and yes, he is better than our last 3 coaches, but I have some concerns.

1. Georgia has never had a flat out dominant team that other teams feared in 15 years under Richt
2. He's never had his team in a title game in 15 years, and shouldn't a top notch coach at least have his team in at least 1 title game? I can see not winning a title, but to not even PLAY in a title game in 15 years?

Hypothetically speaking, opening a redundant thread on tired subject is reflective of a look-at-me *****.

It's small steps to get back to the top. I want this program to be nationally elite again. The last 12 years have been hard to live through. Next season I expect to win at least 10 games. Then get a top five recruiting class after that and expect to compete for the playoff. Especially if Kaaya would come back for his senior year. Richt built Georgia into a consistent winner. Right now I'll take that but I also expect to compete for championships in the future. Richt needs to take the next step at Miami.

His record speaks for himself also 5 yards away in 2012 from not only being in a championship but they would've beat the **** out of ND.. I know you're a hater already so I'm not going to expand any further

So, his claim to fame is "5 yards away" from playing in a title game....only once in 15 years?

Look, I am just saying, I don't know that Richt is the can't miss coach many of us are thinking.

Plus, not one dominant team in 15 years?

I want you to answer both of these posters statements:

From Dingaan1828: Who were we going to hire that coached in a title game?
And
From MIA42178: Like Patterson and Gundy and Briles and Butch and Harbaugh?

You started this ridiculous thread, and both posters make excellent rebuttals.

Every "top" coach that we've had never been to a title game as a head coach. What r u talking about?!

he won 2 sec titles in th ose 15 yrs. some years getting to bcs title game was a game of who ap saw look good late, georgia had a 2 loss season same year that lsu got to play for title with 2 losses. them and usc may have been 2 best teams in country neither got to play for title. then in sec title game a tipped pass away from winning 3rd sec title and going to championship game.

sometimes getting to title game in bcs era was more about perception then who was actually better. okstate had better resume couple years back but 1 loss bama got to play lsu who they had lost to once for title. he won 10 games regularly and was in sec title hunt year in year out even though early in his career was coaching against urban meyer at florida. which by the way gets better talent then georgia,

Dude had to go up against the best in the business. While in the SEC, facing Urban, Saban, and Miles year in and yearout. He got in the ring with the best. And won a few times. I'll take that ALL **** DAY.

Maybe that was Georgia's ceiling and not Richt's, ever thought about that? When was the last time they won a title and when before that?!!! UGA is a awesome job and school but they don't have the ceiling we have, we also have a low floor obviously but get it right and u make history.

He won a national title as an OC and coached 2 Heisman-winning QBs with completely different styles of play; all before he was ever HC. I haven't followed Georgia enough to say why he didn't win, but averaging 10 wins over 15 years is not an easy thing to do.

Larry Coker went to 2 title games and won one. Then proceeded to show his true colors. Richt's consistency alone is remarkable.

No coach is a slam dunk. How many titles had Saban won when he went to LSU?

Saban and Meyer has messed with the way people look at college football.

Would you have wanted Bob Stoops? He has not won a title in 15 years and won with another coaches players.

I like what Richt brings to Miami. Think it is a perfect fit. We need a couple perfect classes to come together in 2017 and 2018 and hope the develop like the Clemson team did. Then you make your run. People might look at this and say 2020? No way. We are Miami. We need to win a title now. Always 4 years away. Well history has shown that it takes some time to get the full team to be playing at a playoff level. We have waited 14 years for a proper team to be put on the field. And that is going to take time. We have talent but we also have a lot of holes. Will take 3 years to fill those holes consistently for a playoff team.

No this does not mean we can not get to the ACCCG next year mind you

Are there no concerns about Richt never having fielded a dominant team, even though he coached 15 years he coached UGA?

Your right, fire his ***.

Bottom line, hope he can keep his recruiting groove down here in a weaker conference. If so, he is pulling an Urban...just get there and worry about it then. We haven't been "there" in a while...I'm all in.

I'm getting tired of some of U fake *ss fans...nothing anyone does is ever good for yah...go cheer for some other team already!

Bobby Bowden became a head coach in 1970 and it took him 23 years to play for his first one. Tom Osborne was 11 years. Elite coaches win lots of games. Winning 10 games a year in the SEC over a 15 year span qualifies him as elite. Getting to a championship game requires a little luck. Like an immaculate knee, a dropped two point conversion, or a wide right.

No coach will ever get 10 years at THE U to win a NC. This is not FSU or UGA, it is Miami. We have bathed in the glow of glory and close only counts for a little while.

Smh... coaching is one tough profession. 1st head coaching job and you build a team up in the SEC and go 145-51, yet people still question if you know what you're doing... Good luck to everyone not named Saban or Meyer... sheesh

Out of his 15 years at UGA, there's probably only three years he wouldn't have wiped the floor with us so I'm good.

Ahhhh, forget it.
I deleted my posts.
You guys got this.

If Richt gets those five yards in 2012, he wins the championship against ND. He's either not getting fired by UGA this past season or he is priced out of our range. Either way he is unavailable. So his bad bit of luck means we got a coach who is capable of getting his team to a championship game at a good price. The only other realistic option was butch, who also didn't win a ring and was still under a cloud of ncaa suspicion, or an unproven midmajor coach. So I don't get the complaining as he was beyond a shadow of a doubt the best coach available.
