The U has never hired a coach who has won titles as a head coach. Neither as Fl or Free Shoes U

Yawn

So who should we have hired based on your logic

Butch? no
Gundy? no
Harbaugh? no
Patterson? no
Herman? no

OP is right. Should've brought A championship coach in. Bring Back Clappy. Yup...

Coaches to appear in national championship game since 2000 with W-L record in these games in parenthesis:
Bob Stoops(1-3), Bobby Bowden (0-1), Larry Coker (1-1), Frank Solich (0-1), Jim Tressel (1-2), Nick Saban (5-0), Pete Caroll (1-1), Mack Brown (1-1), Urban Meyer (3-0), Les Miles (1-1), Gene Chizik (1-0), Chip Kelly (0-1), Brian Kelly (0-1), Jimbo Fisher (1-0), Gus Malzahn (0-1), Mark Helfrich (0-1), Dabo Swinney (0-1).

So, there has been 17 different coaches to appear in a National Championship game since 2000. Take away coaches that aren't coaching anymore, or clearly aren't coaching at a high level (Bowden, Coker, Solich, Tressel, and Brown) and you are left with 12 current coaches. Take away coaches that we have literally 0% chance of getting this year (Saban, Caroll, Meyer, B. Kelly, Fisher, and Swinney) and all that leaves is:
Bob Stoops, Les Miles, Chip Kelly, Gene Chizik, Gus Malzahn, and Mark Helfrich.
So which of those coaches would you rather have than Mark Richt? The only two that should even be in the same conversation are Bob Stoops and Chip Kelly. However Chip Kelly was still the HC on the Eagles, and wasn't about to leave mid-season to head back to college, so that was never going to work. All that would leave in the "played for a title" category is Stoops, who just took his team to the college football playoff, so there was no chance Oklahoma was going to fire him.

Stop *****ing that he's never played in a Title game, neither did a single other coach we've ever won a title with.

Look, I like Richt, and yes, he is better than our last 3 coaches, but I have some concerns.

1. Georgia has never had a flat out dominant team that other teams feared in 15 years under Richt
2. He's never had his team in a title game in 15 years, and shouldn't a top notch coach at least have his team in at least 1 title game? I can see not winning a title, but to not even PLAY in a title game in 15 years?

I know this is a message board but I don't see the value of a thread like this. Lets give the guy a chance here regardless. Only an handful of available coaches who have been in NC games in the last 15 years. Even having one of those coaches as our HC doesn't guarantee anything. Richt is good enough to deserve a shot here. End of story.

I'm not going to judge what Richt did at Georgia. Although I think his record was pretty impressive. The only thing I will judge is what he does at Miami. That's the only thing any cane should care about.

And he hasn't even coached a game yet, so give it a break. As with any new coach I don't expect major things to happen in year one. Year 2 I expect to see vast improvements. Since our last staff (not all) was so bad I expect a little more improvement in year 1 then I would normally.

Man board reminds me of when Golden was hired. Anyone with any doubt about Richt gets blasted. 10 wins or not, his teams did underachiever regularly. Anyone completely comfortable with Richt is out of their mind. Hopefully him calling the plays, and Miami having more potential than Georgia can get him over the hump

Ok, let's toss out the title game appearance (though that has merit), how can anyone argue against the fact that Richt hasn't had a single dominant team in 15 years?

He hasn't had a single team that was dominant---a flat out bully.

Look at his QB recruiting over the past few years (outside of Eason)

Also, he couldn't beat Florida consistently.

Are these not concerns for you all/

His record speaks for himself also 5 yards away in 2012 from not only being in a championship but they would've beat the **** out of ND.. I know you're a hater already so I'm not going to expand any further

Record of what? Not making it to Title Games. Not winning a SEC in 10 years.

5 yards away in 2012 is worst excuse ever. Why didn't he get those five yards. I'll tell you why: HE WASN'T GOOD ENOUGH!

Richt is a solid coach but wasn't my number one choice before he was hired. But he is hired now so what's the point of keep questioning the hire? What "being comfortable with the hire" accomplishes at this time? If you are not comfortable, which I assume you are, you are not buying season tickets? Not watching games? Not buying Canes' merchandise? What is the point? I would guess over 50% of the fans had someone else in mind when Golden was fired.

But Richt has a lot of great qualities and deserve another chance here. And that's what the majority of fans are doing. Giving him the benefit of the doubt, supporting him and hope for the best. He is a quality coach who couldn't win or play for NC at somewhere else but this is a different location, culture and recruiting grounds.
Keep doubting him is not going to accomplish anything.
