The Walton play isn't a shallow cross it's an angle route out of the backfield...but again just accentuates the point of how good things happen when we actually attack the middle of the field.

And I'm not trying to be a **** but like myself and many others have said...they are few and far between in Richt's system. Where were these play calls against FSU, Wisconsin, etc etc etc. Like I said, few and far between.

I wasn't arguing that you were wrong about it being a good idea, I just wanted to see if it's something we did or not. Other than starting in the backfield, is there a difference between the two? Isn't it the same basic concept, or no? I assume the intent of both is to run a guy across the field in an area the LBs have vacated.

They both attack the middle of the field, but what most people like myself have been referring to are drags to guys like Richards, Thomas, and company out wide....like "2 over, 1 under" routes where a natural pick is created and the space given to our receivers out of respect is exploited.

The angle routes are great too....I'm a huge fan of those especially in the red zone where almost every team in America zones up and "defends the line" with respect to the goal line. You catch the Rb with a head of steam coming right out of his break on that angle route and even if there is a linebacker in the area a quick rb can often make him miss and score.

But my point is, has been, and will continue to be that these routes are a rarity in Richt's route combination. He prefers bubbles, zeros, and verticals

I'll believe it when I see them CONSISTENTLY run against QUALITY teams. Duke , while improved, isn't what I consider an elite defense. Why the **** weren't these plays run A LOT more often against teams like FSU and Wisconsin and such? It wasn't until we started throw more slants in the second half of that FSU game that we actually started to get any semblance of an offense going.

When you play tough teams they usually do a good job of taking away big plays. How you make them pay is giving the ball to guys like Richards and Thomas on short routes in the middle of the field where they can use their vision and RAC God given abilities to weave through traffic.

Sorry to keep harping on this but it's THE thing that drives me crazy about Richt. If he would just adapt his **** offense to attack the middle of the field more we'd see a BIG change and it would really help a limited guy like Rosier out....A LOT.

In the Syracuse game from this year (by far Malik Rosiers best game of his career) alone I count at least 11 plays where we had a guy crossing the middle of the field under 10 yards (so not counting posts).
I also noticed we ran a **** load of bubble screens that game and we run a lot of curls to the slot WRs (with outside WRs running posts/Gos/outs/whatever). Our slot guys do one of 5 things, ordered from most to least - Bubble, Curl, Go, Crossing, Out.

We ran crossing routes last year.
 
Perry isn’t going to play here. It is what it is. The Lo bull**** has to stop though. When DJ Dallas is laughing talking about how fast he is you know he’s special. Thomas Brown an ELITE rb coach. He will fix any small issues. RB is one position we should have ZERO worries about this year.

Were all entitled to an opinion. No pressure. I agree its a simple throw. I also know even whats simple is challenging for certain individuals.
 
Richt shouldn't take heat for Malik's incompetence, Richt would never have offered him. He did have 3 cycles though to recruit/coach up someone who can throw a bubble screen & read a defense, which is on him if we don't have that on the roster by now.

Honest questions. Do you think Rosier performed well all season? Do you think we can do better than Rosier at the position?

You see, people like to talk about those 10 wins because we haven't done it in a while, but truth be told, with good QB play we win 12, and are in the playoffs. Rosier didn't carry this team. Yes, he made some big plays, but had he played well we wouldn't have needed comebacks and miracles to beat some of those teams. This team, and every good football team, needs consistent play from the QB position. There's nothing more disheartening to a team than a QB missing opportunities that are there. It wears on them.

Look at the 99 Canes team. Just a couple years removed from 5-7. We should have been doing backflips. Instead, we were watching some pretty terrible QB play. Only when Dorsey came in did the team take off. Same exact thing right now. Ironically, Kenny Kelly completed 54.4% of his passes that year. Rosier this year? 54.0% Dorsey came in and completed 61.7% at the end of 1999 and the team set a record for most points in 3 games. It's a really big deal, getting those completions. Rosier is not a 60% completion guy, and that's what we need. And quite honestly, with the plays being called that % should be closer to 65%.

If you're happy with stalled drives and missed wide open WRs, good for you. I've been around long enough to know what good QB play looks like, and we didn't see it last year.

The stuff about Richt not making it easy for Rosier is pretty funny though. Rosier is just an inaccurate QB. He threw 26 TDs last year. Kaaya threw 27 in 2016. 26 in 2015. Other than that, you have to go back to 2002 to find a miami QB who put up as many TDs. His yards were up there too.

I’m more concerned that we haven’t developed somebody clearly better than Rosier at this point but it’ll sort itself out. My biggest beef with Rosier in addition to his accuracy is how lazy he is running the offense. If you go back and watch even the ND game, he gets the team to the line so **** slow. It kills drives and is frustrating to watch.That needs to be fixed this year. Offense needs to run at a higher tempo.

You got to give time for development at the qb spot , this is both Perry and Williams first spring.

If Ken is hiding in the QB room bring him out. I was unhappy with Vinny because he lost both his NC games. He was our best QB ever and had the best team ever but every time I looked up it was another pick or dropped pass. JJ couldn't coach a bowl game worth a crap.

Do I want better QB play, **** yes!!!!! I also want Manny to stop having brain farts on defense and Mark to coach better. While I am at it, I WANT BUTCH TOO. But we have what we have and last year was the best in I turned 50 so I will not trash the guy at the point of the spear for it. He loss his All ACC rb in Tally and won the game in the most classic Cane manner for that rival game -- unlike the last three years where we played better than this year but loss. That alone made the year a winner. Then the TO chain, the GT comeback, the VT beat down and that ND game with Game Day in town. Come on. For a shinning moment we were back my friend. We climb to Number 2 and are the first thing to come close stealing the news cycle since Trump rode down the escalator.

Look, everything you say is true and if Williams shows enough to get Mark to sit the guy who gave him is best start EVER as a HC, then I have no problem with it. Given your fair points, I have one question, with the noles in The Rock this year, one minute to play and us down 5, who do you want on the field? The guy who won game like that 12 months earlier, of the shiny new kid in his first ever BIG MOMENT? Is it okay to lose that game next year in exchange for the promise of better 2019?

If someone beats Rosier out then fine. But I just cannot dump the guy who just gave us best season and most excitement since Berlin for what he did NOT do when we don't know if anyone we have can do what he DID do. Williams an 11 win guy, okay. Nine wins with promise of more later, he can wait until next year.

Also, how many crossing routes did we actually try to run, but Rosier ended up having the pass batted down by a defensive lineman? I don't have any idea of a ballpark figure on this, but from what I remember of last season, it's possible that number could be pretty high.

All due respect to the spears, but if this happens with Malik playing then something went wrong. I say that believing we're on track to be better than last year (Malik included), and knowing we'll be at home with a lot of questions unanswered about FSU.

If Williams is in it's because he beat Malik or Malik got hurt, and at that point you let the kid finish it.

If we are down 5, it means Rosier missed a crap load of passes and we are losing because of it. Good QB play and we're not down by 5.

Again, I don't get too caught up in the 10 wins, because we win more with better QB play, and I don't think that's even debatable. Also, we pound UNC, whoop FSU, and don't need a miracle to beat GT.

Also, Ken Dorsey wasn't Ken Dorsey when Kelly was struggling. To most he was a skinny backup that was going to get snapped in half if he ever played. All we needed was a guy to complete passes to our plethora of skill position talent. Sound familiar? We have guys open all over the field, but a QB in Rosier that can't hit them.

I do agree with you. Diaz needs the D to play at a higher level. I believe, though, that when our O can convert more than 4 3rd downs a game, our D will be rested and look a lot better. They can't give up plays if they aren't on the field.
