Ruiz to “scale back” NIL money?

Miami is a thriving business community compared to most college towns. While some schools have a larger alumni base. I have to think we can make up for that with said local businesses.

People actually thought he'd see a return on shelling out roughly 10 mil to a bunch of college athletes? While likely legal and within the rules, it's just a cleaner way to pay for play from a guy with money and a company he controls. As a business, you can shell out whatever you like and don't have to profit from that one aspect, like NIL.

Khamauri Rogers has 16 different NIL deals. Are any of them huge? Likely not but if a mid tier freshman who likely won’t even play much this year can still garner deals with 16 different companies at Miami, that should put an end to the idea that John Ruiz is the only one offering deals. Ruiz has been the most vocal booster but don’t confuse that with “only” booster.

Some of you guys should join the gator board since you really believe that Ruiz is footing the whole bill and if he cuts back, we’re out of options.

What we need is more than just Ruiz. I look at Bryce Young being used in a Dr Pepper commercial, well, he’ll be in several. Our program needs to become even more marketable, where these kids r getting offered several NIL opportunities.

I’m assuming Ruiz is in the business of helping the U, but he looked at NIL as a biz opportunity to promote his company, as well. The returns have to make sense for the type of $$ he’s shelling out.
Once his company went public, he had to make sure he had a ROI for the marketing budget.

The reality is IMO that everyone will scale back dollars. It's bad business for anyone to invest several million a year to persuade kids to come to "x" school with a likely terrible return. These boosters are the near equivalent of professional team owners except they have 0% ownership interest. Everyone went a little wacky this year but I think it's gonna settle down when these folks or entities reconsider whether they truly want to invest several millions a year to kids that haven't played a **** down.

Well, he is (to a degree). Given what he's invested, he couldn't have reasonably expected to get a return.
I think he got his return in terms of this years marketing budget (he previously stated that the NIL money was coming from his Lifewallet marketing budget). everyone knows about life wallet now. I doubt his budget will be nearly as high

What percentage of the $ in NIL deals to UM players is paid by Ruiz?

You’d have to ask the accounting department. I’m not going to assume it’s a vast majority simply because he tweets about it more than anyone else. He’s the most high profile booster for sure.

Dan Lambert said the same thing last year. Ruiz isnt Santa lol. hes a businessman that is going to put business first
crazy right?

Imagine a billionaire evaluating his investments

It was a great way to leap frog us into the group that we fell so feebly behind but it’s not really a sustainable practice

I mean it’s more nuanced than that of course

I don't think as many people know about Life wallet as you may think. If we weren't fans of this program, I'd daresay we wouldn't have a clue. The casual fans sure wouldn't. Yes, it was on ESPN, but how many people do we have here that even admit to watching that channel outside of our games?

While it was last years revenue, the company itself only had 4.6 million in revenue. If the numbers Ruiz was touting are accurate, that's double and then some of what the entire company did.

I can certainly see why he would be dropping the amount down. Gotta spend money to make money, but that's a lot of coin for a fledgling company.

Markets always correct themselves on any level. There’s a reason the Wild, Wild West no longer exist; it was unsustainable. These collectives or mega boosters shelling out $10’s of thousands on the black market is one thing; but, when u’re talking $100’s of thousands, millions….PER PLAYER??! YEARLY??! Fck no; that’s not sustainable.

The NIL market will have to include, boosters, businesses, advertisements, social media, commercialism, etc. It’s unfathomable to rely upon a couple of ppl to bankroll this operation, let alone ONE guy. Matter of fact, it’s **** unreasonable to rely upon any one person to bankroll this. Ruiz did a **** good job in highlighting & bringing attention to The U’s ability for NIL, but now it’s up to others, including the players to ante up on this opportunity.

And one last point; fck a BMW. Driving a car that depreciates the moment the two front wheels hit the pavement don’t mean chit; being the face or spokesperson for BMW dealerships across So Fla?? That’s where the $$ is at.

Why is everyone ****ting on OP for showing concern that Miami's biggest booster will reduce his investment? I'm not saying it's the end of the world as it's unclear how much he'll reduce but it IS NOT good news no matter what. Whether or not other schools reduce their investment doesn't mean less money for Miami is good.
